Chapter 4 - The Hunt

_Whoosh!

A group of triangular shape green crystal head creatures was hovering just above the ground consuming the crystals beneath them.

Strange runes were etched across their crystalline heads.

Their whole body was formed of jagged green crystals with their tentacles extended down like a blade.

It was identical to seeing a swarm of jellyfish drifting in water, the only difference was that these were the deadly (A-)-rank monsters capable of ripping apart any seasoned veteran in seconds.

_Ting!

Suddenly one of the monster closest to the a mountain passage heard a tuning sound coming from there.

Disturbed by the sound it moved toward the source.

As it entered the passage it heard the sound again, this time from further deeper within.

This time it was clear and more irritiating.

With lethal intent, the monster surged toward the sound, eager to crush its source.

Unaware that it was moving away from the crystal ground.

Mark's eyes narrowed as his prey took the bait.

First phase, isolating the target from its group and crystal ground, completed.

One of the Crystalis' abilities was crystal manipulation, so the first step was taking it out of its territory.

It had been a week since he got stuck in this mountains.

The first lesson of hunting was to secure a safe place for yourself.

So, he had spent first two days searching for such place, and finally found a narrow passage within the mountain that led to a small stream without any dangerous monsters.

Naturally he was suspicious of it, but after careful inspection confirmed there was only (D)-rank fish monsters in the stream.

And best of all, the water was drinkable.

Mark was overjoyed at the discovery. Of course he tested it first by capturing nearby lizards and insects and forcing them to drink it.

Only after observing them for sometime, and seeing no strange behaviour did he took a sip himself.

The second lesson of learning was observing your enemy.

Over the past week, he had observed the behaviour of the crystalis while waiting for cool down of [The golden compass] to end.

The first thing he noticed was that they were sensitive to sound of vibration.

So he had started to bait them through the vibration of his watch.

He activated the [stealth] and chase after the crystalis who was rushing toward the vibration sound.

The other ability of crystalis was mana drain, it could drain mana from any thing that was caught in its tentacles.

To deal with that he used [Veilweave spindle].

---------------------------

[Veilweave spindle]

Rank: C

Category: tool

Enchantment: [Tighter than a depth collector's grip]

Description: This artifact was made from Luridlens Spider's web by elegant seamstress to sew clothes that would be hard to rip apart and also to enjoy her lone time with depth collector behind her husband's back.

'~AH!~YES! RIGHT THERE!~MORE TIGHTER!~~AHHHH!'_Elegant seamstress

It exert a relentless, unyielding pressure until the target can no longer resist. Its greatest strength lies in its stealth; most victims never realize they've been caught until it's far too late..

---------------------------

As always Mark ignored the ridiculous description.

'Is it really necessary to add those things.'

The system remained one of the unsolved mysteries of the world.

_Whoooosh!

Soon, the sound of the Crystalis falling into the trap echoed through the passage.

I have to hurry the thread won't hold for long.

Mark took a leather bag full of cold water from his subspace and rushed toward the noise.

After few seconds he spotted a crystalis struggling in the net of threads, desperately trying to break free.

Some of the theards was snapping.

Mark used [feather step] and [stealth] to maximum and hurried toward the crystalis.

It's third and most dangerous ability was the crystal lure. It could use the rune on its head to lure its targets by illusion and mental attacks into letting their guard down.

To counter that Mark was using the leather bag to cover it's head.

Slowly approaching the Crystalis, he leapt from a rock and shoved the leather bag over its head, skillfully avoiding the frenzied sweep of its tentacles.

_Crack!

The cracking noise echoed through the passage as the crystal head started to contract because of the cold water that was poured on it.

This was something he guessed while observing these crystalis that they might be sensitive to temperature change like a crystal.

And his guess landed right on mark.

They were extremely sensitive to changes in temperature.

The jagged crystal started to rip the leather bag and more theards also started to snap.

Mark had only few seconds to finsih this.

He took out the [Dawn and Dusk].
