In a desolate, destroyed, lonely area stood two opposing forces who were the culprits of the poor state of the land. Cuts in the ground, skid marks, holes, destroyed buildings and even craters littered the floor of the once populated city. On the right stands true evil, the monsters labelled 'Soul Eaters' who appeared 100 years ago and murdered two thirds of humanity. Grotesque creatures who have never been seen before 100 years ago appeared out of thin air and started slaughtering people as if it didn't even matter. The worst part is that they didn't just kill these people, they ate them, they fed on their very souls. No matter what humanity did, nothing was able to kill these monsters. Guns, swords, missiles, drones, nothing.
Left in a desperate state, all humanity could do was make the decision they all dreaded. The monsters emerged in China after they had reached the core of the earth. The people of China and the entire world celebrated as they reached the core of the earth, regarding it as one of humanities greatest accomplishment but during their celebration, the Soul Eaters emerged and began mercilessly ripping apart the people of China. Nothing worked against them so all the world leaders met together at a conference and decided that they would abandon Asia itself. They used artificial asteroids to strike all areas connecting Asia to Europe in hopes of isolating them and hoping the Soul Eaters were not able to cross the sea.
Alas, they were wrong and after about 20 years the Soul Eaters started to appear in the other continents of the world. But by then, humanity had come up with a genius counter to these monsters. And now, 100 years after the first soul eaters appeared, in the year 2125 they have perfected this counter and have widespread it around the human settlements. This counter was known as the 'Soul Suits' which are pills that humans can eat at 16 years old and gives them the ability to enlarge their souls to a size able to rival the soul eaters. These Soul Suits are unique to each pilot and are the only weapon proven to be useful against the Soul Eaters.
Facing the group of 30 Soul Eaters from the left was 10 of these Soul Suit pilots, Unit 2 of the Anima Defence Force England settlement division, the main human settlement and the main headquarters of Anima, the company currently leading the world. The 10 Soul Suits were humanoid and absolutely massive, standing at a height of around 40 metres tall. Each of them looked different and wielded different weapons based on the life experiences of the pilots.
The 10 Soul Suits stood in a V formation with a light green scaly figure at the front wielding 2 daggers of a darker green colour. Behind him were other Suits of varying colours and appearances who were wielding an assortment of weapons. Soul suits could have any weapon varying from common weapons such as swords or guns to uncommon weapons like maces, whips, bows and even shields.
"We have visuals on the Soul Eaters. There are 29 normal ones and one captain among them. We are outnumbered, requesting reinforcements and asking for permission to retreat. Over." The light green Suit spoke with a deep male voice.
"Reinforcements from Unit 1 are already on their way. Request to retreat is denied. You are protecting a vital area and if you retreat now then the city's location could be revealed. You must hold on until Unit 1 arrives, even if you need to put your life on the line." A female voice responded through an earpiece.
"Understood." The male spoke once again.
The Soul Eaters, grotesque creatures resembling giant, distorted versions of animals that used to roam the Earth were about the same height as the Soul Suits were, but were more ferocious. They had hundreds of sharp jagged teeth and claws to match them. Their skin was dark, resembling a corpse, and had many defects as if they were a failed attempt at evolution. Thankfully, these monsters had no intelligence and just acted on instinct which allowed humanity to have a tiny advantage against them, as strategy was incredibly valuable against them.
Sadly, this description only fit the 29 Soul Eaters standing behind their leader, also known as 'Captains' by humans. Soul Eaters were not all the same, in fact there even was a hierarchy system. The normal Soul Eaters could be beaten by 1 Soul Suit alone. The next rank is called Captains, and they required 10 Soul Suits to defeat them. Then there is Generals which need 100 Soul Suits to defeat. Finally, among the Soul Eaters there is a rank known as Kings which humanity have deemed unbeatable. So far, there has reportedly only ever been one king which was reported to be in Asia, so humanity is safe from it for now.
The way to tell the difference between the ranks of Soul Eaters were simply size and power. While normal Soul Eaters are roughly 40 meters tall, the same as Soul Suits, captains are 60 meters tall. Generals are 80 meters tall, and Kings are unknown but the one that was seen was described to be over 100 meters tall!
Soul Eaters rank up based on how many human souls they consume with only one variable to this rule, the Soul Suits. If a Soul Eater ate a Soul Suit, it is said that they would instantly rank up and become stronger and a much bigger threat.
In fact, this was the most common way Soul Eaters ranked up as many Soul Suit pilots were KIA (Killed in Action). They are then consumed by a Soul Eater and due to their strengthened souls, the Soul Eater gains a lot of strength.
Opposing the Soul Suits right now were 29 normal Soul Eaters and 1 Captain Soul Eater which meant that 39 Soul Suits should be needed to defeat the enemy. There are only 10. 10 Soul Suit pilots would need to hold off against a horde of monsters that tripled their numbers until reinforcements arrived and they didn't have permission to run away.
"Reinforcements should arrive in 15 minutes. Unit 2, can you survi- hold off the Soul Eaters until they arrive?" A transmission came through to the whole of Unit 2.
"Heh. We aren't an elite unit for nothing. Don't worry. I'm sure at least one of us will still be alive by the time those posh bastards from Unit 1 arrive." The light green pilot laughed. "And to you, my comrades in Unit 2. Thanks for everything. I'll try my best to keep you all alive, no promises though. Now, let's kill those damn monsters!"
