Chapter 2 - Chapter 2- Humans are... ever evolving

Adam angered the concepts of Water and Nature during his search of what he is.

What is water? Water, also known as H2O, constitutes most of earth's surface, mainly in the form of the oceans, but exists in many other forms such as glaciers, rivers, lakes... We have mapped out the entire surface of the ocean in maps, but what lies in the deep sea is still very much unknown, as we humans have much trouble with the pressure. Water can be peaceful, calming and even relaxing, but can just as well be a force of destruction to be reckoned with.

When Adam first came across water, he didn't think much of it, he knew he needed it to survive and nothing else. A long time later, Adam decided to travel the world in search of answers. In order to do that he had to go through the seas. This was when conflict started between Water and Humanity.

Water is a formless concept, just like what it represents, but chooses to appear in the shape of a woman. Water goes by the name Yumud[1] and her most trusted subordinate is the enforcer of her will, the one who fought the longest in the front lines of the war between human and water, Adamastor[2].

Humans can swim, but not for long, same with breathing underwater. Then, how would humanity get past the obstacle that was the ocean? Ships. Back in the early days of humanity, it created rafts that could take us across small stretches of water and, as technology evolved, humans when from rafts to boats until finally, at the pinnacle of Adam and Yumud's conflict, ships.

After the concept of a ship was created, the tides of war changed drastically, as Adam, who had been on the backfoot for much of the conflict, had found footing in ships and started to actively conquer the ocean. This was when Adamastor stepped into the fray.

Countless ships sent which were on the forefront of the war were sunk by this being. Adamastor is the concept of storms, who usually manifests in the form of a ginormous human male face made up of clouds.

Adam was sailing around in the conceptual sea known as "Hope's end[3]"

"Who dares disturb my domain?" - Said Adamastor in an angry voice which held such power behind it that it created whirlwinds.

"I am Adam, the concept of humanity. This is Vasco da Gama[4], the concept of a ship commander." - answered Adam in a calm tone in spite of having been thrown backwards from the winds of Adamastor's voice. - "Now tell us who you are"

"I am Adamastor, second in command of lady Yumud. I am the concept of a storm and the one who will not allow you to get to Lady Yumud."

Adam prepared himself for a fight, having brought with him many of the combat concepts he created.

"Vasco, prepare to fire cannon." - ordered Adam.

Vasco did not hesitate and begun to fire, but the cannonballs just went through Adamastor's body. adamastor fires back with very strong winds. The concept of a ship was getting more and more damaged by the second, no one on board knew when it would go down.

Having been put against a corner, Adam knew the only way to win would be to make the ship sturdier. The ship had to become so durable it could withstand the winds and even the waves. But doing this would take time, time Adam did not have.

As Adamastor's attacks became fiercer, so became Vasco's skills at the helm. Cannon kept trying to damage Adamastor, but his attack were futile, not being able to damage the opponent they were facing.

Adamastor started to get annoyed and decided to use thunder to demolish his opponents. He uses thunderbolts onto the ship's general vicinity. Out of many thunderbolts, only two managed to meaningfully damage the ship, with one hitting the hull and the other one starting a fire near the helm.

Had it been any other concept controlling the conceptual vessel, the fight would have ended then and there but it was a different case when it came to Vasco.

"Men" - he shouted to the conceptual crew - "Put out the fire, we must keep fighting until Adam finishes the upgrade, no matter how little damage we deal to our opponent"

"Let's do this" - Shouted one crewmate

"We can do it" - Shouted another

"Sink him to the ground" - Screamed the crewmate who was shooting the cannonballs

Vasco Managed to dodge and weave through the thunder, the heavy rain and powerful winds. making sure the ship "Caravela" did not fall into the bottom of the ocean.

"H-how are you still fighting" - Shouted a confused Adamastor - "Wh-why won't you bugs give up? W-when will you give up and surrender to our superior might?"

"We won't give up. Humans are not bugs and we will show you our true might, you stinking bastard." - Replied Vasco da Gama confidently, the kind of unshakable confidence in one's self only humans can achieve.

Adamastor, getting desperate, threw everything he had at Caravela, but it was of no use. Adam had finally finished upgrading the concept of a ship, not only fixing all the damage the ship had taken but also making it unfazed from Adamastor's attacks.

"How are none of my attacks sinking you?!?!?!?" - Screamed a confused Adamastor.

"This is the power of humanity's ambition. We will surpass any obstacles thrown at us." - Adam said as he fired a cannonball into Adamastor's mouth, damaging him greatly.

"Blergh. You motherfuckers, I will kill you." - he said that, but couldn't do anything as barrage after barrage of cannonballs were fired. - "Sorry, I could not beat them, Miss Yumud..."

So was the fall of Adamastor. A once great concept, now reduced to nothing by humanity.

[1] Yumud is a water wraith from Filipino mythos. It is usually depicted in the form of a woman with long hair. Tends to live in deep rocky places such as pools beneath the water. Owner of the color white.

[2] A being from Portuguese mythos. It is know to be the representation of the cape of hope, and the one who slowed the Portuguese sailors during the age of explorations. It is most well known for his role in the book "Os Lusíadas" of "Luís de camões".

[3] This specific conceptual sea is equivalent to real life's place known as the cape of hope, but i wanted to make a name that actually sounded menacing.

[4] Although it was not Vasco da Gama who surpassed the "Cape of Hope", he was the first sailor to get to India. I am not trying to discredit the sailor who overcame this hurdle, whose name is Bartolomeu Dias.
