Chapter 1 - DON'T READ

Sense 1 Sign in to edit Sense (センス Sensu) is a term that refers specifically to the five traditional senses (sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch) and the ones that relate to the "burning" of the cosmo (intuition, miraculosity, arayashiki, and godhood). In Saint Seiya, senses are used to measure the level of cosmo and the state of being of characers. Contents 1 The Five Senses 2 The Sixth Sense 3 The Seventh Sense 4 The Eighth Sense 5 The Ninth Sense 6 References The Five Senses Sight (eyes), hearing (ears), taste (mouth), smell (nose) and touch (nerves) are the senses which most human beings are born with, and encompass their activities in life (so long they don't awaken intuition). All five senses can be taken through physical attacks, and are all irrelevant in the underworld (especially after death). Despite not being considered as much as the remaining senses, they are vital to most human beings, and their very use consumes the naturally existing cosmo in all life forms. Some demonstration of those facts are found in the series: Dragon Shiryū's last resort to fight Perseus Algol was to blind himself, as the Medusa Shield could only affect the target through the eyesight.[1] Taurus Aldebaran's last resort against Bat Wimber was to puncture his eardrums to defend from his Nightmare Sonar, and he sustained very bad wounds because one of his eyes had been blinded by Bennu Kagaho.[2] Virgo Shaka (sight)[1] and Virgo Shijima (taste)[3] use a technique of sense deprivation to heighten their cosmo reserves. Additionally, Virgo Asmita (who was actually blind) and Sagittarius Sisyphus (who blinded himself to heighten his senses during the fight against Garuda Aiacos) even managed to touch the eighth sense by giving one sense away and burning all of their available cosmoenergy.[2] The Sixth Sense 6th sense Pegasus Tenma "feels" the cosmo as he explains it. Intuition (意識, Yishiki) is the sense that represents the strength of Athena's saints, and is inherent to all who can feel their own cosmo and/or that of others. Its basic use is what differs cosmo-awakened fighters from regular ones, as things like feeling and using cosmoenergy, moving at superhuman speeds and predicting movements without the use of other senses is impossible without it. With this sense, supplementary abilities such as the sekishiki[2], telekinesis, teleportation, crystal manipulation, mind reading, atomic destruction, temperature manipulation, nature manipulation & communication[2] and the elements[4] may be developed. Such skills are often even seen as sub-senses of the sixth, and may be heightened (or, as with sekishiki[2] and teleportation, impossible without) certain characteristics of the individual's biology. Additionally, the sixth sense can replace the loss of the previous 5 during a fight, as demonstrated when Virgo Shaka used his Tenbu Hōrin to take Phoenix Ikki's senses (in the occasion, the sense is later taken as well).[1] The Seventh Sense 7th sense Pegasus Seiya becomes an equal of Taurus Aldebaran. Miraculosity (末那識,Shichishiki) is the highly mentioned seventh sense (セブンス・センス sebunsu sensu) that gives its user access to the essence of their cosmo. In short, it can be described as the "true" cosmoenergy, and its use brings about what could be considered impossible (called a miracle[1] in the series). This sense is extremely rare even among cosmo users (such as saints and specters), and is considered the power that separates the gold saints from all the others. The term "miracle" is used to refer to the acts that go against nature, such as moving one's body at the speed of light, taking off all of the heat in a particle (and thus approaching and even generating the absolute zero) and opening gaps in spacetime. In fact, even if a mortal fights against a god or otherwise incredibly powerful being, they may become equals[5] with them through the use of miraculosity, even if for only a second. The same goes for all those capable of this sense, regardless of rank.[1] Its use can replace that of any previous senses, and only extremely powerful beings (such as Virgo Asmita and Athena[2]) can take it away from a person. In the film Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary, the sense is also referred to as the "power of the gods". In the age of myth, in which distinction between gods and humans was unheard of (see "ninth sense"), humans in general had access to the seventh sense, which in fact was originally theirs (much to the dismay of many of the gods). With the development of civilization by the majority of humans and ascension of the gods, miraculosity was forgotten by most, although it exists in a sutile form in the very life sources of Earth.[6] Masami Kurumada's concept of seventh sense for the series is based on the tradition of the Buddhist doctrine, being the equivalent to Shichishiki (the seventh consciousness). The Eighth Sense 8th sense On the verge of death, Virgo Shaka achieves the arayashiki. Arayashiki (阿頼耶識, Arayashiki) is, primarily, the sense which allows the dead to perform basic tasks, and feel pain and suffering while in the underworld. It is linked to reincarnation[7], dead consciousness and the first steps of godhood (so much that the ones who approach it are often referred to as "close to the gods"). Naturally, this sense would only awaken after death, when all other senses are lost, and wouldn't allow human consciousness to remain while in the form of a soul. However, it is possible to achieve the eighth sense while alive, in which case the user can even keep their consciousness after reaching the underworld[1], which is also possible with certain items and blessings that simulate its activation, such as the blessing of Hades (shared by specters and their undead surplices), Sasha's flower bracelets (as shown by Pegasus Tenma)[2] and Athena's Sword (a demonstrated by Unicorn Yato).[2] Additionally, the early awakening of the arayashiki can give its user even greater reserves of cosmoenergy (as shown by Sagittarius Sisyphus).[2] Virgo Asmita was the only being shown to be capable of removing the eighth sense, which he did to Atavaka, effectively destroying his capacity to reincarnate as a specter.[7] The Mokurenji was known as the only living being in the underworld, and its unique ability was used to seal the souls of specters.[2] Rarely, human souls may keep their consciousness even dead, and that is linked to an inherent capability to reach this sense.[2] Such an ability is poorly explained in the series, but the status of the Virgo saints as reincarnations of Buddha himself is connected to it.[1] The Ninth Sense 9th sense With his power, Hades manipulates nine planets. Amalashiki (阿摩羅識, Amala-vijñāna), Godhood or Divinity is the "Supreme Virtue"[8], and the sense that separates a god from lower beings. To awaken such sense, a mortal must reach true enlightenment, of the likes of which rarely ever happened after the age of myth. In those times, in which all of humanity possessed the power of miraculosity[6] (see "seventh sense"), some managed to awaken their ninth sense, becoming the deities known to men in modern times (all of them, with the possible exception of Chaos, Chronos and other primordial gods, were said to be originally humans).[8] Very few mortals can approach the power of godhood in modern times, and most possess special circumstances or abilities (whether acquired, such as Virgo Shaka's training and the bronze saints' god cloths, bathed in Athena's ichor; or inherited, such as the presence of Kairos' genes in Pegasus Tenma's body). The miracles generated by the cosmoenergy of a god are capable of not only breaking laws of physics, but also completely ignore them. An example of this was shown when Poseidon could stop the absolute zero-enhanced blast of the Aurora Execution of Cygnus Hyoga and bounce it back, when no particle should be able to retain energy within it.[1] In the occasion, his cosmo was yet to be completely awakened, and when it did, it was noted by Pegasus Seiya to multiply itself at an alarming rate, quickly enveloping all of his Underwater Sanctuary. His power was also capable of literally "ordering" the golden arrow of the Sagittarius Cloth to obey his will, until it was surrounded by the combined cosmoenergy of Pegasus Seiya, Cygnus Hyoga, Andromeda Shun and Dragon Shiryū. Immortality (such as the ability bestowed upon Nasu Veronica by Thanatos[2]), resurrection (demonstrated by Eris[9], Abel[10], Hades[1][2], Athena[1] and Odin[11]), time control (used by Chronos[3] and Kairos[2]) and planetary control (such as Dimension Iapetos' ability to control a planet and its life[5] and Hades' Greatest Eclipse, to which manipulating the entire solar system was needed[1]) are also highly related to godhood. Demigods, such as Pegasus Tenma, and those who receive ichor, such as Libra Dōko and Wyvern Rhadamanthys, are a step closer to godhood than most, but were not shown to go beyond the eighth sense.[2] A single human was shown to have reached the level of a god in modern times, and that was Ludwig, who became the god Mars. Such power changed him mentally and physically, and heightened his cosmo to the level of Athena's own.[4] Pegasus Seiya was able to equal his power to that of Apollo, at least for a moment, being able to harm him.[12] Cosmo Sign in to edit " You may have some of the power of the saints, but you use it only for destruction. You have never felt the full force of the universe deep within your body, have you? " —Seiya to Cassios, Episode 1: A New Era of Heroic Legends. Cosmo (小宇宙 (コスモ), shōuchū (Kosumo)) is one of the defining features of the series Saint Seiya by Masami Kurumada. It is a mystical energy and the fundamental force which powers every supernatural feat performed throughout the series. Contents 1 Overview 2 Seventh Sense 3 Eighth Sense 4 Big Will 5 Elements 6 Omega (type) 7 Trivia 8 Notes 9 References Overview The origins of Cosmo can be traced back to the Big Bang, which from the entirety of the universe was born. All living beings possess Cosmo deep within them. While normally unaware of it, over the millennia, beings such as humans developed the means to manipulate and harness it by means of "burning" it explodes, recreating micro-scale reproduction of the original Big Bang. Cosmos Tenma, in his childhood, aware of his Cosmo. Burning one's Cosmo produces the energy needed to enable a being to perform extraordinary feats including pulverizing rocks with their bare hands, striking faster than the speed of sound, throwing hundreds (or even thousands to millions) of blows in a second. Beings such as Saints are humans who have been trained to awaken and attune to their Cosmo. Comparatively, even the weakest Saint can outclass even the strongest of human warrior through the awakening of their Cosmo. As their Cosmo grows, it becomes necessary for a being to practice controlling their abilities and powers. It's also to note that Cosmo is heavily influenced by emotion. Incredible displays of willpower or strain have shown to allow beings such as Saints to surpass his usual limits and access far greater levels of Cosmo, though such feats are brief due to the sudden surge of Cosmo being beyond the being's current level of sensitivity to maintain. Cap207 Dohko, explaining the nature of Cosmo. Referencing the ranks of the Saints, a being's level of sensitivity to their Cosmo directly influences the magnitude of their abilities. The Bronze Saints, for example, have the weakest sensitivity to their Cosmo and have the most difficulty attuning to and manipulating its energies. Though this makes them superbeings when compared to normal humans, they are easily outclassed by the higher ranks as such Silver Saints, whom have greater skill. It's also evident that Saints are not the only beings capable of harnessing Cosmo. Warriors of other Gods also possess this skill, although their methods of acquisition are not as harsh and life-threatening as a Saint's. Seventh Sense Cap172 A scene when Mu explains that Cosmo is actually Seventh Sense. A Saint that is deeply aware of the nature of their Cosmo discovers that Cosmo is actually the seventh of the human senses, beyond the normal five senses and the sixth (that is considered intuition). With this awareness, a Saint is able to draw out the true potential of their Cosmo and achieve exceptionally powerful feats far beyond those of even a normal Saint, like wielding a power destructive enough to pulverize a star, reach the speed of light, or being able to punch billions of times per second. Typically, Gold Saints are the most prominent examples of beings fully aware of their Seventh Sense enough to harness it adequately; though there are those talented Saints who, despite being lower in rank, are capable of the same feat, allowing them to fight on par with, and if sufficiently skilled overcome, the Gold Saints themselves. The most famous example are the 5 main protagonists Seiya, Shiryu, Hyoga, Shun and Ikki, that during the battle at the 12 Zodiac Temples they awakened their Seventh Sense and defeated some of the Gold Saints. Cap222 Seiya awakens his Seventh Sense and burns his Cosmos beyond that of Aldebaran. Although never mentioned by name as the "Seventh Sense", it's clear that the high-ranking warriors of other deities' armies have a Cosmo that is equivalent to that of Seventh Sense, for example Poseidon's Marina Generals or most of Hades' Celestial Star Specters, but also many other anime-only fighters like God Warriors of Asgard or movie characters. Cap142 Seiya reaches Supreme Seventh Sense exceeding even the Gold Saints and turning his Cloth to gold. Generally it's shown that all the elite class warriors of any army have this kind of Cosmo. Being aware of the Seventh Sense is not a definite level of power, because the rule "the power of a Saint relies on how much he burns his Cosmo" still applies to those aware of Seventh Sense. Two Gold Saint level warriors may be stronger or weaker the more they burn their Cosmo, so there can be a particularly skilled fighter or a naturally gifted genius of battle that is able to burn his Cosmo far above the average. The 5 main protagonists are a good example because they managed to overcome Gold Saints themselves many times. There seems to be a level called "Supreme Seventh Sense" or "Extreme Seventh Sense" that appears to be the maximum extension of the human Cosmo, a level so high as to generate a small-scale Big Bang, and also an extension far above even the capacity of many Gold Saints. Seiya and the others reached this ultimate extent many times not only against the Gold Saints, but especially during later battles against Marina Generals (and probably God Warriors in the anime-only Asgard saga). On these occasions their Bronze Cloths were reborn with the golden blood drawn out from their true nature, shining with a golden light similar to Gold Cloths. Because of the fact that Cosmo is actually a human sense, it happens that with a loss of one or more of the other six senses, the seventh refines itself. This strategy is exploited deliberately by all the known Virgo Gold Saints: Shaka, Asmita and Shijima. This allow them to always have a superior Cosmo. It happened that other Saints exploited this effect but without having planned it. During the Myth Age, all human beings were aware of the Seventh Sense and thus the distinction between humans and deities was less marked. Eighth Sense Cap028 At the very edge of death, Shaka awakened the Eighth Sense. While the Seventh Sense pertains to the Cosmos of living beings, there exists a Cosmo affiliated with the soul and of the supernatural. This is the "Eighth Sense". This extraordinary sense is associated with the soul of the deceased and functions in the same manner as the Seventh Sense of the living. Also known as "Arayashiki" (meaning "source" or "storehouse" in Buddhism), this is a level of human consciousness that defies all rationale and logic. As an individual becomes a soul upon death, they lose their connection to their Seventh Sense which is replaced with a special "Eighth" Sense. Including Saints, these souls will wander the planes of existence as creatures such as specters or zombies (superego, the false power-up) until such that they can awaken their Eighth Sense. Without it, they will carry on with their lesser existence, being subjugated by the rules of the Underworld and condemned to the torments of Hell. Cap011 Seiya instinctively burns his Cosmos up to the Eighth Sense while falling into the world of the dead. The process of awakening one's 8th Sense is an arduous feat, requiring one to have achieved enlightenment upon death and skilled enough to burn their Cosmos to its utmost in that moment. This enables them to surpass the level of the Seventh Sense and breach into the Eighth; achieving a Cosmos superior in dimension and concept; a Cosmos which transcends concepts of life & death and enable them to survive within the realm of the Underworld. Since 'life and death' is bigger than the derivative 'meaning of life and death', and the 'dignity' of a Saint is larger than 'life and death'. This process enables one to transcend Saṃsāra--the cycle of repeated reincarnation--and the ego, allowing one to achieve divinity. Shaka has been called "The Closest Man To The Gods" because of his mastery over his Eighth Sense. He went Nirvana at the Sala Trees after the Athena Exclamation assault and it was not just a common 'feign death'. Being that the Eighth Sense is such an obscure concept, it is difficult to define many of its capabilities and functions, though, undeniably beyond the limits of humanity. It is abstruse, esoteric, unfathomable... What all other senses below it constantly maintaining, all solved problems, all volition, all quirks, all nuances, are still far from the Eighth Sense. For too long, most people are still unable to access to it. The path of awaking the Eighth Sense is to awake the causality. A good example when Kanon is being punished by Milo, Milo feels great. Later, in Virgo Temple, Saga is unconsciously driven by the 'emotion between twins', attacks Milo offensively and is considered a revenge. Milo then feels lost. Saga even finally decides to use Athena Exclamation again. Reminding this but not a common 'backfire' and some other entire chain of events can awake the causality and Eighth Sense. Putting it into personal skills but not an ordinary 'conclusion' will wield this great power. Facing ones own demons that once feared. Cap103 Seiya damages even Rhadamanthys shooting his Ryu Sei Ken with a Cosmos burned to the Eighth Sense, but at the cost of Orphée life. The strongest Saints appeared in the series, while in the need to, have shown to be able to wield Eighth Sense, Seiya and the others that many times have shown to be able to achieve even miracles, or Kanon, equal to his brother Saga and thus among the strongest for Cosmos and abilities, or the legendary Dohko, considered an invincible master even by the other Gold Saints. Eighth Sense power hasn't being used only to overcome death, but also during the battles against the most powerful Specters like the 3 Judges, for example Seiya against Rhadamanthys or Sisyphus to gain the upper hand against Aiacos. Eighth Sense has been also exploited by Virgo Asmita to create the rosary with 108 beads to trap the souls of Specters. He had to reach the same Cosmos as the Mokurenji tree that grows in the 7th Prison of Hell, the sole form of life in the whole Hell. And of course, during the time 12 Gold Saints breaking the Wailing Wall. Once completely awakened, the Eighth Consciousness will be transformed into the Great Perfect Mirror Wisdom, the Seventh Consciousness into the Equality (alt. Universal Nature) Wisdom, the Sixth Consciousness into the Profound Observing Wisdom and First to Fifth Consciousnesses into the All Performing (alt. Perfection of Action) Wisdom. Big Will Cap147 Greatest Eclipse: Hades can easily manipulate the whole Solar System with his unlimited Cosmos. This is the name as the divine Cosmos it is often referred to as. It's mentioned in the Hypermyth as the true essence of Cosmos, a source of power and existence without boundaries. Gods possess this full awareness of Cosmos, as they would be Cosmos itself. Powers granted by this knowledge are absolutely infinite, but only higher Gods are fully aware of this power, while minor Gods, although being hundred times stronger than even the strongest human warriors, are far from the absolute and unlimited power. With this infinite Cosmos, there is nothing impossible to achieve up to deeply alter the core rules of nature and universe. The real powers of this Cosmos are not yet fully explained in the series, but it is so far beyond human comprehension that may be not easy to fully understand it. Poseidon and Hades used this divine Cosmos to empower Mariners and Specters since they were normal people originally. Being the absolute power, things like blasting 5 Gold Cloths to pieces with a single blow like Thanatos did, or surpass the power of Absolute Zero like Hyoga probably did, can be still seen as insignificant feats. The only way a human could oppose this absolute Cosmos is called a miracle, the sole force that the supreme God granted to mankind and that still worries the Gods, a force that Seiya and the others or Tenma have shown to possess, as the destruction of the Poseidon's Pillar. Like some other manga. Saint Seiya's story also encourages heroic deeds. In some great moments of Hades arc, the Eighth Sense Cosmos can challenge the Big Will Cosmos, disrupting Hades' deployment and Hades himself. Elements Zokusei In Saint Seiya Omega it is discovered that the birth of Aria and Pegasus Kōga altered the Cosmos, infusing them with Elemental Attribute (属性 , Zokusei lit Attribute) that can strengthen the power of the Cosmos when used. There are seven Elements with their respective Strengths and Weaknesses. The Elements are Water, Fire, Wind, Thunder, Earth, Light and Darkness. Much on a similar sense to the Naruto manga and anime series, the elemental strength chain is the following: Water is stong against Fire, Fire is strong against Wind, Wind is strong against Thunder, Thunder is strong against Earth, and Earth is strong against Water. Light and Darkness are not stronger or weaker than any of the previously mentioned Elements, though they do directly counter each other. Regardless of the elemental advantage, if one's Cosmos is superior to the opponent then that element will still be superior even if it would be naturally impossible, when Water faces against Earth, the water is easily absorbed by the Earth element, but a strong use of Water can potentially break through Earth. Element is of great importance in the era of Omega and as noted and evidenced by old veteran Saint Hydra Ichi those who are not aware of their Element or cannot control it, can simply not succeed as Saints or overall users of Cosmos anymore as those who can control their element have noticeable advantage in combat by being capable of using the elements to not only fuel their own sheer power, but also because it can create several new techniques based on the element itself. For this particular reason, the Palestra a school for Saints puts special attention to Elemental Training, with a strict training regime that not only forces its students to learn Elemental control ,but also to strengthen it. The Element of Cosmos seems to also be related to not only Cosmos but also Physical abilities as well. According to Volans Argo Fire users are terrible swimmers. Moreover as seen in Palestra's training camp known as Cosmo Delta, which is a massive geographical location with several different kinds of nature such as forests, mountains, rivers, etc. The very nature itself can be advantageous or disastrous to Element users. For example Volans Argo could use the water of the river to easily use his attacks, while in the same sense a deep forest with several flowers is detrimental to Water users as the flowers seem to be "draining" the Cosmos of the traveling Saints in the shape of a dark vapor. This same vapor is seen when Aquila Yuna and Dragon Ryuho enter a cave filled with lava, and Yuna eventually falls while walking. The Gold Saints seem to contain all the Cloth elements. However, none of the twelve out of Thirteen Gold Cloths has yet to be assigned the element of Darkness, making Fans assume that if there is a Ophiuchus Gold Saint that its element would be Darkness in contrast to its Evil history. Omega (type) Contrary to popular belief, the 8th Sense does exist in Saint Seiya Omega's setting as the references to Hades would indicate. Instead, the anime features an additional sense that functions beyond the ninth: Omega. Virgo Fudō spectulates unless the current generation of Saints, regardless of rank, are able to reach Omega, then they would stand incapable of defeating Pallas' primary Pallasites. Due to comments dropped by Genbu and Ikki, Omega is the ultimate Cosmo. Aegaeon notes that it can match a god. In Episode 83, Omega is first seen when Ryuho pushes his Cosmo beyond the maximum which allowed infinite power to well up in Ryuho's body. Even though it could defeat Rhea's army, the power was too sudden for the Saint and he collapsed soon after. Omega is also the power of friendship, meaning that if people work together, they will be able to reach it. In Episode 86, Koga and his friends awaken part of Omega since they combined their Cosmo as one just to reach infinite power. They were able to transform their cloths and achieve miracles like Ryuho, Soma, Haruto, and Yuna breaking parts of the Phonotector, Eden destroying the War God Manifestation Blade, and Koga killing Galia. Virgo Fudo says that was a gateway to greater power. In Episode 89, Koga and his team's cloths got destroyed, but they still stood up. They still got beat by Hyperion, but they never gave up. They kept moving forward. The power to care for each other made them strong. Hyperion was shocked that they weren't dead yet and he began to fear them when he saw Subaru. Hyperion thought that Subaru was the reason they never gave up. Hyperion tried to kill Subaru, but Koga's team blocked Hyperion's attack. Hyperion sensed the macrocosmo, the power that created the universe. Everyone awakened their Omega and gained a power that surpasses Hyperion and new cloths. With this power, they saved Subaru and eventually defeated Hyperion. The power that created the universe - Macro Cosmo's light engulfs Koga and his group, evolving their cloths to Ultimate Omega cloth. Thinking feeling 9th Sense Untitled Omega power of Friendship and Love. Omega Ultimate Omega power of Care Each Other. 222 Super Omega power of Trust and Believe. When fighting Saturn, the Saints turn into stone, but Athena, with her willpower, helped Kouga, who had been beaten by Saturn, and also awakened the Saints who had turned into stone. Their willpower forced all of them awake and they go to where Koga is to help and they trust him, giving him all their power. The Cosmos of the Saints crystallize in the form of a "Super Omega Cloth" worn by Koga. This power puts him at the same level as Saturn. Koga faced Saturn and he felt his blood boil like never before, and their fight begins. With everyone's trust in Koga, believing he can do it, he stops his friend Subaru from turning into Saturn. Koga unlocked Super Omega at that point. Trivia The only Cosmos that have changed color are those who originally did not wear Gold Cloths but eventually did (Seiya, Shiryu, Hyoga, Shun, Ikki, Kanon, Kōga) and the Hades resurrected Saints which were turned into their purple Cosmos. Tenma (TLC) is the only person known to have manifested his cosmos without any previous training. Although in Lost Canvas exists the argument of the "mythological saint of Pegasus" The elements Light and Dark have no disadvantages compared to other types of cosmos. This is likely because they are based on "Yin & Yang" from the Chinese concept of balance. Although in classical astrology the western Zodiac Signs have their own natural elements (fire, earth, wind and water), in Saint Seiya Omega the Gold Saints do not use the cosmos of the zodiacal constellation. This may be due to two factors: that the elements of Saint Seiya Omega are not the western elements (only 4), but the eastern elements (in which lightning is included, and extra light and darkness); And also that each saint handles the element with which his personal cosmos is more closely related and not in a "forced" way by his zodiacal sign. The following is the list of zodiacal elements and those used by the Omega characters: Kiki uses the earth element, but astrologically Aries is fire element. Harbinger uses the element lightning, but astrologically Taurus is earth element. Mycenae also uses the lightning element, but astrologically Leo is fire element. Fudō uses the element fire, but astrologically Virgo is earth element. Genbu and Shiryū use the element water, but astrologically Libra is wind element. Sonia uses the element fire, but astrologically Scorpio is water element. Seiya uses the element light, but astrologically Sagittarius is element fire. Ionia uses the wind element, but astrologically Capricorn is earth element. Tokisada uses the element water, but astrologically Aquarius is wind element. Notes Cosmo comes from Ancient Greek "cosmos". Cosmos is the systematic and balanced order of things in the universe. The kanji "小宇宙" translates to either innerverse or microcosm. In the Saint Seiya Universe, Cosmo is represented by images of galaxies, constellations, stars, and aura. Saints 1 Sign in to edit The Saints are the 88 Warriors of Athena ( アテナの戦士 Athena no Senshi). They fight wearing armors called "Cloths" (クロスkurosu) of different power and endurance according to the rank of the specific Saint, the design of which derive from the constellations the characters are born under. Athena's Saints are divided into three different classes: Gold Saints, Silver Saints and Bronze Saints wearing Gold Cloths, Silver Cloths and Bronze Cloths respectively. The latter is the class that the five main protagonists are part of in the manga authored by Masami Kurumada and it is considered the lower class, then the Silver Saints are the middle class and Gold Saints represent the elite and are considerably stronger than the other OUTPUT 001622 The 88 Saint reborn to protect Athena two ranks, representing the real battle force to defeat the most powerful enemies. Despite these categories, it's not impossible to have a lower rank Saint that is indeed as strong as a Gold Saint or even stronger, that's because one of the main rules of is: "The power of a Saint is not related to the Cloth he wears but to his Cosmo". Using the power of Cosmo, they are said to be able to cut the skies with a punch and crack the earth with a kick and they are entered into legend because they are said to appear in the eras of crisis, when the humanity is in danger, at Athena's side to protect the world at the cost of their life, rejecting all the conquest ambitions of the other deities. To acheive the status of Saint they must afford a very harsh training period that can last some years, a so hard training that many candidates to become Saints lose their lives without ever obtain the Saint rank, but it's widely known that a person should be somehow destined or chosen by the stars to become a Saint and wear one of the 88 Cloths. This doesn't mean that soneone particulary skilled may not wake up his Cosmo even without obtaining a Cloth. Saints are known to have widely refined fighting skills thanks to the training so that they are able to quickly study the enemies fighting styles observing them and thus founding countermoves to oppose them. Saints have this high adaptabilty they seldom relapse into same mistakes, so they often say: 'The same technique cannot be successfully used against a saint twice'. This advantage can let foes' next actions betray themselves in foes' viewpoints. This is one of the factors that allow them to win even the hardest battles, even against enemies that are stronger than them. Another factor that makes them capable of this is the renowned ability to overcome their limits and to burn their Cosmo more than their usual extent, exceeding opponents that should be superior to them. This is something the 5 main Bronze Saints have been doing since the beginning. Their strength is not only from their powers though, because they usually form a sort of mutual sinergy with their Cloths so that a Cloth weared by a Saint with the right Cosmo to control it, gains a increase in his offensive and defensive capacity, as well as the Cloth itself shines with the Cosmo of the Saint getting more powerful. When a Saint doesn't burn his Cosmo accordingly with the Cloth, it can become a burden more than a defense. Although despite this, it happens that a Saint without his Cloth finds himself in a so desperate condition that his emotions charge his Cosmo making it explode. It's a strategy that Shiryu has learned to use after discovering his weak point located on the heart area that only his Cloth and his shield can normally cover. Because of their exceptional training they can overcome some desperate situation creating new strategies to counter the enemies powers also inventing variations of their secret techniques during the battles and catching the challengers off guard, for example Shun adapted his Nebula Chain to any of Scylla Io's beasts attacks, or Mu created a modified version of the Crystal Wall to trap in a net the fairies created by Papillon Myu. This capacity contributes also to make them able to win any war. And it should not be forgot that they have the extraordinary ablity to accomplish miracles, a mysterious feat humans have and that Gods mostly fear. There exist 12 Gold Saints, 24 Silver Saints and 48 Bronze Saints, but also 4 fabled Saints that wears an unknown type of Cloth, but few is known about them. There is also a God Cloth, worn by Athena herself, compared to it even the Gold Cloths are nothing, but during history also the Pegasus Saint, always side by side with Athena, has worn a God Cloth of his constellation. List of constellations and Saints Cloths are inspired to the 88 constellations. There are still 28 constellations that were not used in Saint Seiya. The Cerberus constellation was deleted in 1919, therefore it is anachronistic. 17 constellation were designed by N. L. Lacaille in 1763, i.e. 20 years after the events in Saint Seiya: Next Dimension and Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas (Not canonical). The rank of many Cloths has been changed in Saint Seiya Omega (Not canonical). Some deities other than Athena have armors inspired to the 88 constellations, too, but they are not listed here. (or Gold Knights) are the group of twelve most powerful and highest ranking warriors in Athena's army. Their main duty at Sanctuary is to defend the Twelve Houses of the Zodiac. They are the last line of defense and the ultimate warriors in the service of Athena and of the Grand Pope, from among whom the Pope is generally selected. From left to right: Leo Aiolia, Scorpio Milo, Gemini Saga, Aquarius Camus, Aries Mu, Virgo Shaka. Gold Saints wear Gold Cloths, that represent the twelve constellations of the zodiac, and are the most durable and powerful among all the 88 Cloths. Since these constellations are located over the ecliptic, the Cloths also contain the energy and light of the sun. When all twelve Gold Cloths are in proximity to one another, they emit a shining light and produce a loud sound. This phenomenon is called "resonance". However, the reunion of all twelve Gold Saints is a rare event, which usually only happens when Athena or the Grand Pope summons the Gold Saints in view of an upcoming crisis. The Gold Saints are among the most powerful characters in the series. Their power derives from their mastery of the Seventh Sense, the essence of Cosmo, which grants them miraculous abilities, such as the capability to move at the speed of light. Some among them have also reached the Eighth Sense (Arayashiki). Like other Saints, who can raise their Cosmo beyond ordinary levels in extraordinary circumstances, the Gold Saints are capable of overcoming their limits in times of crisis to accomplish miracles. They are highly respected by other Saints, though this does not signify that all Gold Saints are honest or righteous. There are multiple Gold Saints who act with open cruelty and self-interest, unchecked by their peers. When two Gold Saints with equivalent forces confront one another, it is said that their battle will inevitably reach a stalemate. This confrontation is referred to as a "Thousand Day War", since the saints can both die or fight forever without a winner. When three Gold Saints come together, they can join their cosmos to unleash a legendary technique known as the "Athena Exclamation". The "Contemplative Athena Tablet" that resides in Athena's room represents its essence. This technique releases an amount of energy similar to a small scale Big Bang, the explosion that gave birth to the universe. When two such techniques collide, their power does not double or multiply, but increases exponentially. Because of its immense destructive power, and because it is considered a coward's technique (three Saints attacking a single enemy), Athena banned its use. Those who use the "Athena Exclamation" are considered barbaric and dishonorable, and may never be called Saints again, regardless of their intent. Gold The twelve Gold Saints, preparing to unleash their most powerful attack, in Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold. The most powerful and destructive technique of the Gold Saints is the one referred to as the "sacrifice of the Gold Saints". In it, the twelve Gold Saints raise their Cosmo and, taking advantage of the fact that their cloths are connected to the ecliptic, put their souls into an energy beam as strong and bright as the sun. Adding to the already amazing array of skills that the Gold Saints have, the Libra Cloth has six pairs of golden weapons that can be used in exceptional situations at the discretion of the Libra Saint, the only one allowed to weigh the justice and righteousness of a cause in the absence of Athena herself. The destructive force of the weapons is extraordinary. They are said to be able to pulverize a star with a single blow, a feat equal only to the most devastating techniques, such as the Gemini Saint's "Galaxian Explosion". The six pairs of weapons are the tonfa, spear, sword, shield, triple rods, and twin rods. Among Athena's enemies, there are groups of warriors who are comparable in rank and power to the Gold Saints, such as Poseidon's Mariners or the Celestial Star Specters of Hades's army, particularly the Three Judges. The anime series and films also introduced the God Warriors as Gold Saint-level enemies. Appearances In Saint Seiya Book-12 The Gold Saints during the battle at the Twelve Houses, in the Saint Seiya manga. The story begins when Gemini Saga, overcome by evil, stages a coup to take Sanctuary for himself, killing the Grand Pope and Sagittarius Aiolos. Years later, during the battle of the Twelve Houses, the Bronze Saints storm Sanctuary to reinstate Athena, killing five Gold Saints; Gemini Saga, Cancer Deathmask, Capricorn Shura, Aquarius Camus and Pisces Aphrodite. The surviving Gold Saints have little intervention during the Poseidon arc, as Libra Dōko orders them to remain in Sanctuary to prepare for Hades' imminent attack. The God of the Underworld revives the fallen Gold Saints and the previous Pope, ordering them to attack Sanctuary and take Athena's head. Taurus Aldebaran is killed in the attack by the specter, Papillon Myu. Gemini Saga, Aquarius Camus and Capricorn Shura use the "Athena Exclamation" to kill Virgo Shaka. The three are then confronted by Aries Mu, Scorpio Milo and Leo Aiolia. The two groups turn the banned technique on each other, destroying the House of Virgo in the process. The rebels are then brought before Athena and die after revealing that they have been on Athena's side all along. Gemini Kanon, Saga's brother, dons the Gemini Gold Cloth. He and Libra Dōko proceed to fight Hades's army in the Underworld. All twelve Gold Saints eventually reunite before the Wailing Wall, sacrificing their lives so that Athena may prevail over Hades. In Saint Seiya: Next Dimension In the Saint Seiya: Next Dimension manga, Athena travels back in time, to save Pegasus Seiya from the curse of Hades' sword. There, she meets the Gold Saints of the 18th century. The souls of the 20th century Gold Saints also accompany her. This series also introduces the concept of a thirteenth Gold Saint, representing the Ophiuchus constellation, who is said to be an evil Saint. The Ophiuchus House is buried and hidden beneath the temple of Sagittarius. In Saint Seiya: Omega Omega Gold Saints Five The main Gold Saints, in Saint Seiya: Omega. In the Saint Seiya Omega animated series, the God of War Mars succeeds in a hostile takeover of Sanctuary. Prior to this, the majority of Gold Saint ranks had not yet been replaced from the previous wars, with the only acting Gold Saints being the former Bronze Saints Sagittarius Seiya and Libra Shiryu, as well as the pupil of the previous Aries Saint, Aries Kiki. Mars then offers the vacant Gold Cloths to a number of loyal followers, all ruthlessly malevolent warriors unworthy of wearing a Gold Cloth, yet powerful enough to control them: Taurus Harbinger, Gemini Paradox, Cancer Schiller, Leo Mycenae, Virgo Fudō and Libra Genbu as Shiryu had been incapacitated years earlier. Meanwhile, the Mars' wife, the dark sorceress Medea, secretly conspires to betray him while appearing to aid him, appointing his daughter Hornet Sonia as the new Scorpio Saint and granting Silver Saint Horologium Tokisada the Aquarius Cloth, while her brother Amor secretly obtains the Pisces cloth. Gold21 The twelve Gold Saints, in Saint Seiya: Omega. Kiki and Genbu pretend to serve Mars while secretly acting on Athena's behalf, while Harbinger and Fudō eventually have a change of heart and betray Mars. Schiller is killed in battle, while Paradox is defeated and later apprehended, her Gold Cloth being taken up by her twin sister Gemini Integra. Mycenae is murdered by Amor, who in-turn is later killed by an Abzu-possessed Pegasus Kōga. Tokisada seemingly perishes at the edge of time during a battle with Wolf Haruto, and Sonia is eventually killed by her own cosmo after she proves unable to handle the power of the Scorpio Cloth. Once order was restored, Harbinger and Fudō joined Kiki, Seiya and Genbu as official Gold Saints of Athena. Not long afterwards, Harbinger begrudgingly becomes the next Pope of the Sanctuary. In Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold Gold Saints (No Cloths) The twelve Gold Saints out of their cloths, in Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold. In the Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold animated series, the Gold Saints are temporarily brought back to life by Odin as Einherjar in Asgard. There, the evil god Loki has set a plot in motion that endangers the world. One by one, the Gold Saints must confront the Asgardian God Warriors, before coming together to defeat Loki. Deities 1 Sign in to edit Olympian Gods The Olympian Gods A Deity or a god is an immortal supernatural being, usually (but not always) with significant power, worshiped, conceived as holy, divine or sacred, held in high esteem and respected by his/her followers and supporters. Deities assume a variety of forms, but often are depicted as a human or animal. Sometimes it is considered blasphemous to imagine the deity with any concrete form. They have personalities, consciences, intellects, desires and emotions like humans. They are also attributed to natural phenomena such as lightning, floods and storms, and miracles, and can be conceived as the authorities or controllers of every aspect of human life (such as birth or the afterlife). Some deities are considered the directors of time and destiny, the givers of morality and human laws, the final judges of value and human behavior and the designers and creators of the Earth and/or the universe. Abilities The gods, generally speaking, are the most powerful race in existence in the Saint Seiya franchise. They are strong enough to be feared throughout the multiverse, not just by mortals, but even among themselves. While it may appear that each god possesses the same authority and similar powers, their individual power and combat ability vary depending on how old the deity is, their divine lineage, or the other god they serve. As supernatural beings, all gods extract most of their powers from their spheres of control or domain, some being able, depending on their role and specific divine power, to influence the elements of nature, manipulate reality, space- time or even the flow of time. Despite this, they all share certain powers, such as immortality, and even the specific abilities of their individual domains can sometimes overlap with those of other deities. Capabilities Dominion of the Cosmos: The deities were the first race to have complete control of the cosmos and to have completely mastered all of its occult paths, to the point where the energy itself serves as the receptacle of all memory, knowledge and aspect that gods have of themselves. By inciting their cosmos, the deities manifest it in the form of an aura whose color and shape vary. The power and cosmic level of the gods is so immeasurable that some see humans as no more powerful or important than how humans view bacteria. Now compared to each other, the degree of scale varies from god to god. Originally, the great gods and some of the titans were the deities with the most colossal cosmos. Some Olympian gods, such as Zeus, Poseidon and Hades, also have immense cosmic levels comparable to their ancestors. Others, such as Athena, Artemis and Apollo, in turn, are slightly weaker than their parents, but share similar levels of power. Minor gods such as Thanatos and Hypnos, despite being considered inferior, are still powerfully divine, and if they serve another god, they will also gain an increase in their powers. The deities of other mythologies are likewise equally nearly as powerful as the Greek gods, and some even match their level of power. Overall, the intensity of the gods' cosmos is so powerful that they serve as a natural barrier against considerably weaker attacks (such as mortal ones) and can bounce them back. As you release all of your power, this barrier becomes more powerful, and the only way to break through it is if the offending cosmos is higher than the deity's or if the god's cosmos is weakened. It is also noted that the longer a god is awake in battle and within his domain, his cosmos will multiply rapidly, having no limit to stop. Mastery of the Ninth Sense: The gods are the supreme beings of the universe because they control the Supreme Virtue, which has allowed them to ascend to the higher state they are in and awaken a wide range of abilities as well as attributes close to omnipotence, usually such as immortality, miraculous healing, possessing human bodies, transiting the Wailing Wall and the Hyperdimension, reincarnating for eternity, moving planets, dimensions, stars and even galaxies as well as destroying them if you want. They are also capable of absurd feats with their cosmos, even if it contradicts the laws of physics - Hades easily aligned all the planets in the Solar System and Poseidon caused tsunamis, storms, tidal waves all over the world. Certain abilities and attributes are only available to gods who have completely mastered the ninth sense, but even incomplete mastery can guarantee overwhelming divine power. It also seems that the deities awaken a differentiated capacity according to their divine lineage by gaining complete control of this sense, as Olympians use the Great Will while the titans and great gods use both Dunamis and Eskatos Dunamis. Immortality: Most gods who have gained complete control over the ninth sense are endowed with the maxim of having their bodies deified. These bodies then become immune to any weapon and any kind of damage that would easily kill mortals or mythological beings. They also become incapable of dying for the passage of time, immune to all human diseases (though they are still vulnerable to supernatural afflictions), and capable of surviving damage that would easily destroy a human. This ability, though regarded as the most powerful attribute of the gods, means security only from natural death. It should be noted, that under the right conditions, the gods can still die, only the more powerful the immortal is, the harder it is to kill him. In this case, it is preferable to incapacitate the deity by sealing his soul. Immortality also does not protect the bodies of the gods from being destroyed or aging (though it does delay it for a long time). To prevent aging, they need to regularly use the Misopethamenos ability to retain their youth and poise. Ikhor: Once the gods had their bodies deified and made eternal, the blood in their veins would be called Ikhor (霊 血, Ikōru). This fluid carries the same divine power as its wielder, being extremely poisonous to mortals. At the same time, it can be used by them and even other deities to heal themselves, strengthen or expand their capabilities. However, like mortals, the gods can also suffer the ailments of blood loss, losing consciousness or even falling into a coma, reaching, in more serious cases, even to death Physical Aptitude: The gods have physical abilities, such as strength, speed, endurance, and stamina, vastly superior to that of mortals, even going beyond those who are also seen as superhuman. They have an inhuman durability, being able to quickly generate and manipulate immense amounts of cosmo energy without inconvenience, besides possessing incredible regenerative abilities. The limits of one god's power in this regard are unknown, as is the extent to which they can cross another's domain. However, they can get tired or overpowered depending on how powerful their opponent is or how numerous they are. Although capable of sustaining large levels of damage, they are still susceptible to pain and some gods have been shown to die from fatal wounds - Hades died having his body pierced by Athena's Staff (loaded with the goddess' cosmos along with Shiryu, Hyoga, Shun and Ikki after ascending the divine force), Saturn, however, survived even after being stabbed by the Golden Dagger, one of the only weapons capable of dispatching gods, simply for being a "Great Immortal God". The gods Abel and Eris, in turn, were killed when hit by the Sagittarius Arrow (also loaded with the cosmos of Athena, Seiya and the other Bronze Knights, but only with the cosmos at the level of the Golden Knights) although the artifact is not considered sacred. Another handful of gods were slain by being struck by the techniques of mortals such as Thanatos and Hypnos, though this occurred after the said mortals had raised their powers to the divine level. Gods who abandon immortality, like Athena, can be killed in different ways. Fighting Style: Each deity has its own combat method depending on its role and specific divine power, some of which don't fight at all. However, deities often share the same forms of attack involving cosmic blasts or blasts, energy-shaped shock waves capable of knocking down even other deities with the force of impact, usually accompanied by a scream or hand movement. If they have weapons, as in the case of Athena, Poseidon or Hades, the gods are usually skilled and skilled fighters with their weapons, some being so powerful that it is almost impossible to defeat them without first depriving you of their respective weapon. In terms of defense, it seems that all deities use their cosmos as a barrier to repel attacks that are not capable of harming them. Intelligence: Most deities possess the knowledge and wisdom of everything in the universe, including what exists or has existed in it. They also apparently can infinitely increase your mental capabilities. However, they are not fully omniscient, so they can be caught off guard. The gods can also be tricked or manipulated and unconsciously have their actions directed by other deities. Although rare to occur, they can also be deceived by mortals. Mastery over Creation and Destruction: Depending on how powerful the control of the deity's atoms is, it will have the ability to control the energy of creation or materialization of its forms, thus being able to generate physical matter and create any type of objects, including weapons, the from nothing. Likewise, they will also have equal mastery over the energy of destruction, however, on a divine level, ranging from at least disintegrating something or someone to a subatomic level (which neither the toughest armor nor the gods themselves escape from this category) alter reality and even completely remove all existence from the environment in which it finds itself. Astral and Spiritual Domain: The gods who completely dominate the ninth sense have their souls deified, making it virtually impossible to afflict their spiritual essences[6] to the point that even if their souls faded, they will re-establish themselves depending on how old and powerful the deity it is, although the duration of this process can vary from years to centuries. As such, they retain absolute control over this higher plane of spiritual existence, meaning that even if their physical form is destroyed, the gods can return in an astral form. Kronos himself had been able to generate a gigantic spectral form capable of interacting with the physical plane. However, while they can become immune to most attacks and can have mortals to take shelter within them in this state, they become extremely vulnerable to being sealed into a vessel or location by someone, regardless of whether they are mortal or divine. Once the divine soul takes possession of a mortal's body it is said that only another divine power is sufficient to separate a god from the host, although it is possible to use orthodox methods to accomplish the same feat. Dominion over Life and Death: Deities are believed to be the only entities that have absolute control over life and death. As such, they have the ability to manipulate the soul, the essence that constitutes an individual, which allows them to resurrect or conjure up the spiritual representation of the dead, however, not everyone can do this. Also, it seems that the deity's power, depending on its role or specific power, influences how they do it - Abel brought back to life Saga, Death Mask, Aphrodite, Shura and Camus with their powers below what they originally had. , already Hades brought them together from Shion (in the anime, along with some of the Silver Knights) with the same potency they had in life. The gods also need the dead to want to serve them to bring them back to life fully, otherwise the resurrection will fail. In fact, some deities, such as Hades and Thanatos, have such dominion over this field that they are able to decide who lives and who dies in the universe. It is also noteworthy that, however far above life and death the gods are, only a few can transit the Underworld unaffected by it. Likewise, all gods are equally vulnerable to being incapacitated within the depths of Tartarus if sealed there. Extrasensory Domain: The gods, but not all, have an almost unlimited amount of control over general mental powers, including levitation, teleportation, telepathy, psychokinesis, and, in some cases, even precognition. Dimensional and Spacetime Mastery: Certain deities have shown that they have the power to rip spacetime where they want and expand it to the size they wish, thus being able to totally engulf even an area as large as the Sanctuary of Athena and leave it. it existing in a separate dimensional crack, even managing to prevent anyone from leaving its domains. They can also create an opening to a specific dimension like a particular dimensional universe where you can observe people. Nevertheless, they are also able to travel great distances quickly through their dimensional slits. They could even hack into other techniques of the same style. Regarding dimensions, some also had full control and knowledge of the interdimensional fields, as they could easily open portals to dimensions with their own physical laws (in short, where the user could manipulate them completely) and were able to open paths even to the Hyperdimension. Mastery over the Flow of Time: Only the deities Chronos, Cronos, Kairos, and Saturn exhibited this ability. It allows them to have complete control of time: past, present and future, allowing them also to use it as a weapon, imprisoning enemies or entire worlds in infinite cycles of time. Because time is an absolute component in the balance of the universe, the overwhelming majority of other gods are subject to this power. Domain of Nature and Elements: Some gods, depending on their domain or the aspects they represent, have been shown to manipulate the elements and nature, but on a scale so immeasurable that it cannot be measured in quantity of control. Hades (冥王 ・ハーデス , Meiō Hādesu) is the main antagonist of the series, the King of the Underworld and chief god of his Army. Hades is reborn every 243 years to start a crusade against Athena to conquer Earth. Hades' soul has been reborn on Earth in the Heinstein Castle where he reincarnated as the brother of Pandora and has since reincarnated in numerous hosts, including the Host of Hades (XVI Century), Alone, and Andromeda Shun. Hades' real body is sleeping in his temple in Elysion. Hades's real body In his original body, Hades possessed an otherworldly beauty, in other words, the personification of beauty, particularly because of this he has great value in maintaining his body, without a single scratch. His true body plays a important role in deceiving others when they saw such a beautiful figure, because it hid his cruel and disdainful self away from sight. His skin looks like snow, he has yellow eyes in the manga, but they're colored green in the anime. His hair is long and black, some of the wicks in the front cross over his face, the upper part is shaking, the rest is smooth and shed. His armor is called Hades' Surplice. When he wears his armor, his appearance has an angelic atmosphere despite the gloomy aspect, which is silver and gray details and is composed of several angel wings and stored in Elysium for exclusive use only for the original body. Hades's beauty does not reflect his personality. Hades may seem good to be chosen to go to the Elysium, which make him appear kind and pious (and his true body reflects this), but like everyone whom God punishes for being a sinner, Hades shows impiety (many characters in the series criticize this upon entering Underworld). In human form, the appearance of Hades has its variations, because once Hades is reborn to begin the divine battle against Athena, he takes over the purest human body as he doesn't want to hurt his divine body with blood, but when the host is chosen, there is many changes in their appearance. The host's original hair color becomes black, their skin turns pale, and the host's eyes become green, basically the appearance becomes similar to the vivid image of his original body. The clothes are typical of what Hades usually wears, a purple long shirt covering his entire body, along with some yellow details, a dark purple strap tied in the area. The belt with gold tribal details and what stands out in it is the concentrated red emerald. The rest of his outfit is the usual Hades's style, purple jamb and black cloak. Personality Hades is a very stern deity with absolute pride over his godly status, and the power and authority that come with it. He believes unequivocally that Gods are the superior race, and that humanity must bend to the deities' will unconditionally for they are to be no more than servants to the Gods. As such he feels no remorse about the thousands or potentially millions of lives lost as a result of the wars he has waged and has no qualms in using his Specters as he pleases ultimately viewing them as tools. He is also seen to be a cunning manipulator and charismatic liar who goes as far as promising eternal life to his subordinates, except it is disclosed by Virgo Shaka and his conversation with Buddha that such promises are ultimately false. Hades feels nothing but scorn for humanity, feeling they are impure, ignoble, and disrespectful towards the Gods and as such has time and time again tried to destroy humanity under the pretense of cleaning it. This reveals Hades' incredible arrogance and self-serving nature, for he completely believes that everything he does is righteous by virtue of being a God and that humanity must just cater to his wishes, no matter how wicked his purpose is, seemingly unable to accept that Gods are meant to guide humanity with wisdom and compassion, rather than oppress them with fear and tyranny and in turn be worshipped and respected for their kindness rather than hierarchical status. Regardless of his hatred for humanity, he does love his niece, Athena, and offers her numerous times to be spared and convince her of his misanthropy. He even extends that courtesy to her elite Bronze Saints, but he is nonetheless cruel towards them as he viciously hacked them with his blade. Hades went so far as to personally curse Seiya for daring to draw blood from him by impaling him and forcing him to live out the rest of his days crippled. Recently, Hades agreed to his father's request that he spare Leo Aiolia for being such an honorable opponent in exchange for obtaining his Dunamis to restore his lost body. Interestingly, Seiya comments there is such sadness in Hades' deep blue eyes implying there is something tragic that has happened to him in the past. Power and abilities Saint Seiya The Lost Canvas - A glimpse of Hades's true form with his pet Cerberus Hades's true form with his pet Cerberus Hades is one of the most powerful deities in the Saint Seiya Universe, being Zeus and Poseidon's oldest brother. His actions show the size of his destructive power and abilities. As the God of the Underworld, Hades had absolute control over the Underworld and all its subject. He demonstrates an intense authority over the Specters and can orders them around; if they disobeys him or goes against his orders, he will reprimands them using any methods he want depend on his mood. Futhemore, Hades can allow Specters or living beings (as demostrates with Lyra Orphée and Eurydice) to travel from the Underworld to the Living World, also, he can resurrect any living being at will (as he did with his deceased Saints and Specters, and Cerberus during The Lost Canvas series). Hades possessing extrasensory perception, which allows him to detect the presence of others outside his normal range of perception, as shown when he detect Phoenix Ikki's presence and later sense Athena's overwhelming Cosmos. Addtionally, the God of the Underworld can scan his host's memories, and analyzes them for any kind of flashbacks (as he used it on his 18th century host Alone to find the flashbacks only to discover that Sagittarius Sisyphus take Sasha away from the orphanage and thus fueled Alone's hatred and grudge toward the Sagittarius Gold Saint). Saint Seiya Hades Arc-Hades Shun lifts a staff Hades, whilst possessing Shun, raises a staff up into the air As a deity, Hades had demonstrated an overwhelming telekinesis (as shown when he lifts weapons into the air without using his hands and renders the Saints attack useless during the battle). It is implied that his skills in telekinesis surpassed the minor deities Hypnos and Thanatos, due to his superiority compared to the minor deties, and they are his subordinates. While possessing his 20th century host, Andromeda Shun, he was shown to able to applied his telekinesis powers to other indivuduals's objects and weapons, as shown when he raises Pandora's staff into the air twice. He also demostrates the ability to absorb an opponent's attack and then redirect it back to them (which used whilst possessing his 18th century host Alone to repel several Saints's attack, and used while possessing Shun to redirect Phoenix Ikki's attack back at him). In his true form, the King of the Underworld's telekinesis poweress was so immense and overpowering that he could clashes with five Bronze Saints at the same time (Seiya, Shun, Shiryu, Hyoga and Ikki), even managing to outmached them. Along with his brothers Zeus and Poseidon, Hades battles and defeated the Titans - the most powerful deities in the universe - and took control over the Underworld. Since then, Hades ruled of the Underworld and gaining the monopoly on life and death, therefore, which strikes his ability to obstruct vitality over his opponents. Hades's power is rivalled only be his brothers Zeus and Poseidon. Hades versus five Bronze Saints Hades, while in his true form, effortlessly overwhelms five Bronze Saints Being the King of the Underworld, Hades's combat ability is very potent (as shown when he was able to overwhelm Saints both in his hosts's bodies and his real form, with varying degrees of success). In the distant past, he alongside with his brothers Zeus and Poseidon defeated the Titans, a group of deities that ruled the world in ancient times. Whilst in his 18th century host Alone, Hades had been shown attacks and overwhelms several Saints (including Bronze Saints like Pegasus Tenma and powerful Gold Saints such as Sattiagrus Sisyphus). In his 20th century host Shun, he demostrated the abilities to rendered Phoenix Ikki's attack useless and send him one of the prisons in Underworld. Once he regained his true form, Hades was able to go toe-to-toe with five Bronze Saints (Seiya, Shun, Shiryu, Hyoga and Ikki) and unleashes devastating attacks againsts the Saints with his overwhelming powers, that they couldn't fully block or evade. Furthemore, he was able to fight on equal ground with his niece Athena and eventually gain an upper hand from her, demostrates his superiority over her. All in all, Hades's defeat required the combined efforts of Athena, and her Gold Saints, and the five Bronze Saints armed with God Cloths, a feat that truly exemplifies the might of the King of the Underworld. Hades's hosts Alone and Shun Two of Hades's hosts, Alone (18th century host) and Shun (20th century host) Hades stores his mythological body and his Surplice in Elysion, and is kept in a marble tomb while defended by Thanatos and Hypnos. As a result of this, Hades requires a host to inhabited and can take over his host's body at any time. Most of the time, Hades tends to possesses, and takes over the purest human body. However, some overtaken hosts can resist and fight back Hades's possession for a while, as demostrate with both Alone (as shown through his special affection for and appeals towards Pegasus Tenma and Sasha even while being possessed by the King of the Underworld), and Shun (who managed hold Hades back long enough to give Ikki a chance to strike, but the Phoenix Saint hesitate at the last moment thus allow Hades to regain control again) . When the Bronze Saints attack his tomb, he retorted in going back to his true body. Being a deity , he is a possessor of the Big Will (Divine Cosmo) but, unlike his brother Poseidon in the Saint Seiya series, he could use all the power of his Divine Cosmo. 9th sense Hades manipulates nine planets One of Hades' most powerful techniques is the Greatest Eclipse, to which manipulating the entire solar system was needed. The great eclipse is capable of destroying the souls and spirits of creatures exposing their vastness, such a phenomenon would clearly not be considered as a simple solar eclipse. But when it is emitted by Hades' universe to become a supreme technique, it cannot be subdued according to his will. This technique, exclusively for Hades to the ages, has never been fully realized, when it can cover people in the dark and obscure the darkness spreading through hell. The Lost Canvas Hades's Lost Canvas In The Lost Canvas, Hades is able to kill any creature, as long as he describes them in his paintings. After that, he painted a giant screen in the sky, representing the world and everything in it, and thereby destroying the life of the Earth, similar to the Great Eclipse. He also possesses Hades' Surplice and the extremely powerful sword. Athena's Shield, which was claimed to be able to resist any attack, could not handle the edge of his sword and its sheer power. The sword can curse opponents, as they did with Seiya, hurt his soul while rendered his physical body weakened. However, in The Lost Canvas, Hades has a strategy to destroy humanity, to create a wonderful screen in the sky with all the inhabitants on Earth, as soon as it ends - all will die. It is currently unknown what Hades's Kamui, if he has one, looks like and if it is the inspiration for his personal Surplice. BIRTHDAY In Saint Seiya, Hades, the God of the Underworld, is said to be reborn every 243 years. His birthday is on November 19, according to the Seiyapedia website. It's important to note that Hades is not a person with a traditional birthday in the sense of being born on a specific date, but rather, he is reborn periodically. The exact date of his rebirth may vary in different adaptations or spin-offs of the Saint Seiya franchise. Background and History Hades was the eldest male and the fourth child of the Titan Kronos and Rhea, born after his sisters Hestia, Demeter, Hera. Unfortunately, Hades was swallowed by his own father when he was a baby and spent his childhood in his father's stomach. Later, Zeus eventually freed his siblings and led a revolt against the tyranny of his father and the other Titans. Once the Titans were locked away in Tartarus, the three brothers drew lots to divide who would rule which part of the world. Zeus got Olympus, Poseidon the seas and Hades was given the Underworld. The first holy war between Athena and Hades happened when the King of the Underworld decided to give Ares asylum after being defeated by his sister. During the war, the real body of the King of the Underworld was first wounded by the Pegasus Saint, who led him to decide to keep his body sealed in the Elysium, dead (soulless) in a tomb. Thus, whenever he reappears, the god takes the body of the purest human in the world at the time of his awakening, for without a body he cannot walk in the human world when he has mastered it. Remembering that Hades is the one who chooses the body, but the choice of a God is worth above that of humans and without their choice, the world does not flow. Plot overview Holy War XIII Century Hades woke again at about the thirteenth century, and initiated a new Holy War, in which he participated Aquarius Krest in the alternative version The Lost Canvas. There are no records of this fight more than the mention of it in the Aquarius Chapter. Hades was one of the three gods mentioned by Krest who participated in the XIII Century Holy war others being his brother Poseidon and his nephew Ares was defeated and sealed by his niece Athena. In the modern age (between 1486-1493) 500 years before the present era, Hades reappears in full modern era. Data on this Holy War is virtually nil, however the sleeves Next Dimension and The Lost Canvas provide valuable data. It brings the story that two Saints only managed to survive in that war, Cancer Sage and Altar Hakurei (twin brothers). According to them, the Twin Gods Thanatos and Hypnos all the Saints were defeated. Cancer Sage with his brother Altar Hakurei, had no possibility to cope with these terrible gods. Sage is appointed Pope of Athena while Hakurei returns to Jamir and to guard the tower where the souls of the Specters are sealed. Athena also leaves a Sword protected by her prayers to his saints. The ova 25 reveals that Hades led many Specters and invaded the 12 houses including Griffon Minos, Bat Wimber and Worm Raimi were defeated by eight saints including Altar Hakurei and 4 bronze 1 gold (Sage) protecting to Athena. Finally it appears to be rescued by Altar Hakurei and Cancer Sage. Hades's host was leave withered and weakened from Hades's possession, and later eventually dies dies in Altar Hakurei's arms when appear Hypnos and Thanatos. The Greatest Eclipse After the Specters were ordered back to the Underworld and Pandora's Castle collapsed, Hades waited in Judeca, knowing that his new avatar Shun would come. After Lyra Orphée was killed by Wyvern Rhadamanthys during a failed assassination of Hades, Shun became possessed and Seiya was thrown into Cocytus. Meanwhile, Ikki defeats Garuda Aiacos in the fifth prison. Hades senses his cosmo and orders Pandora to bring the individual. Ikki is warped to Judeca. There, he fights against Pandora and remembers he had already seen her once. Pandora tells him that the "Yours Ever" pendant she gave Shun years ago was the chain that tied him to Hades. Shun takes a brief possession of his own body and tells Ikki to kill him in order to destroy Hades and stop the Greatest Eclipse, which will cause the alignment of nine planets including the planet Pluto itself and will darken the earth. However, Ikki wasn't able to do it, and was thrown into Cocytus by Harpy Valentine. Later, Athena and Virgo Shaka arrived; Athena asked him for a bargain: At the cost of her life, the Greatest Eclipse should stop. However, Athena's blood expels Hades from Shun's body. Enraged, Hades pulls Athena with him to Elysium. Elysium Seiya, Shun, Shiryu, Hyoga and Ikki reach Elysium. There, they fight Thanatos and Hypnos. However, after the twins are defeated, Hades is still lured by Athena to wake up in his own body. He fights the five Saints at once, receiving little damage to his God Cloth. When Seiya asks why Hades' eyes are so sad, Hades sees Tenma in Seiya. Athena joins the battle and duels Hades. Seiya, trying to protect her, is mortally wounded by Hades' sword, and fell in a coma in front of Athena and his friends. Athena does not take the chance to kill Hades and cries. Shun, Shiryu, Hyoga and Ikki then concentrate their cosmos into Athena's Victory Staff and Athena throws her weapon into Hades, which destroys his body. In the newest Manga comic book series, Athena and Shun travel back in time to save Seiya from Hades' curse. Athena was turned into a baby by god of time Chronos. Then pope from sanctuary tries to kill her because he was Hades's spy. Shun meet Pegasus Temma saint and with him try to save Atena. Episode G Hades is first mentioned by Kronos, when he tells the Gold Knights that they fight for a false justice, and the peace of the land is based on the justice of Zeus, who, Kronos, planned conspiracy against Hades to dethrone this king. reach. So Hades physically appears when his father falls into Tartarus along with Aiolia, just to watch. Kronos asks his son if he saw the whole battle, Hades then asks "What do you want, Kronos?" he asks to allow the Golden Lion to return to Earth another, Hades asks Kronos about what he's going to give in return for this "please", Kronos replies that he will give all of his Dunamis, even begging him to return Aiolia, whom he recognized as a hero to the land of light, Hades finally agreed to Kronos's request. Hosts In Saint Seiya, as in the Greek mythology, Hades is the Underworld god, and as such, incarnates into a human being. Every 243 years Hades can enter the world of humans, and fight against Athena for control over the world. However, it is said that Hades is too fond of his own body which was born by Cronus and Rhea. He cares so much of it that he keeps it locked in a chamber in Elysion so it doesn't get damaged, only to start using it when he has taken control over the world. To fight the sacred wars against Athena, Hades has to take control of the purest human being born at the time of his incarnation. Like Poseidon, Hades prefers to take hold of a human at any age to returns to the world, fearing to injured his original body. He always seizes the purest human being on the Earth. XIII Century Aquarius Krest is an old gold saint, the Aquarius Gold Saint of the XIII who, after numerous battles and holy wars (against Hades, Poseidon, Ares and other gods). Hades was one of the three gods mentioned by Krest involved between thirteenth and fifteenth century. The others being his brother, Poseidon (XIII Century) and his nephew, Ares was defeated and sealed by his niece Athena. XVI Century Host of Hades (XVI Century) TLC Alone (TLC): In "The Lost Canvas", Hades possesses Alone's body during the 18th century. Alone however, kept control of his body for a while. Next Dimension Alone (ND): In "Next Dimension", Hades takes the body of Alone. Despite the same name, the two 'Alones' have different histories. Classic Andromeda Shun: In the 20th century, Hades seizes the body of the Bronze knight, Shun. Through the 'Yours Ever' pendant, Shun was always, in a way, connected to Hades. Trivia Hades had a wife named Persephone who does not appear in Kurumada's original work, but she makes a brief appearance in the game Saint Seiya Online, in which she fights alongside Hades to help him achieve his goals, pointing out that she agrees with Hades' view of humans, or who at least is his ally. Hades's possession of the purest souls resembles his abduction of the maiden Persephone. Hades is understood to be ambidextrous, as in the classic manga, wields his sword with both hands (at different times). In the manga, Hades has yellow eyes, while in the anime he has green eyes. And in LC he has blue ones. In Lost Canvas, there is a visual reference to distinguish Alone's soul from the god Hades who inhabit his body as Alone uses the sword in his right hand, but when he is fully possessed by Hades, he uses his left hand to hold the sword. Like many other characters, Hades doesn't use a helmet in the anime. Hades is the God who has appeared in the most stories, as he is the last enemy in the anime and manga, in addition to Lost Canvas and Next Dimension, appeared at the end of Episode G and made a cameo in Omega. In myth, Hades owned an Invisible helmet. Kurumada changed it from a hat to a sword. Or perhaps the helmet of Hades's Surplice was the Invisible helmet itself. In the story, the Invisible Sword possesses non-life aura that hurts souls directly. In real life it may be called Red-Overlay Aura (not red aura) that annoys some humans. In classical mythology, there was no ill will between Athena and Hades, and interaction between them is only depicted once, in a handful of paintings depicting the Rape (Abduction) of Persephone, Hades's niece and eventual wife. In the paintings, as Hades kidnaps Persephone, Athena and Artemis (acting as archetypes of virginity and innocence) try to save her, but Hades proves too fast for them to catch. The original description of Hades shows him as something of a neutral figure; he is a stern and immovable god, but he is just and had no interest in the human world, although he became furious with those who attempted to escape the Underworld against his wishes or who took souls rightfully belonging to him. In contrast, the Hades of Saint Seiya is a lot more antagonistic and aggressive towards human beings. Hades' attitude regarding humans is mirrored, interestingly, in the character of his wife, Persephone, in the video game God of War: Chains of Olympus. Similarly, to the Saint Seiya version of Hades, in the game Persephone seeks to eradicate the entire world due to her view that all humans are selfish and corrupt. She additionally sought to destroy gods (as Hades wants to destroy Athena) due to their "betrayal", and then inability to save her when Hades tricked her into marrying him. Another parallel is that both, in full armored form, resemble dark angels or angels of Death. Judging from the location of Hades' palace at the center of Cocytos and his antagonism towards humans, there is an implication that Hades is symbolic of Satan as, in Dante's Divine Comedy (which heavily influenced the Underworld of Saint Seiya), Hades' palace is located in the exact area where the Devil in Dante's work was imprisoned. Also as in the Divine Comedy, Hades' palace contains a gateway out of the Underworld (in the Divine Comedy, the narrator and his guide escape Hell by climbing down Satan's body and emerging back on Earth). This is furthermore supported by Hades' God Cloth, which resembles an angel, something the Devil was originally as Lucifer. Hades' Surplice and sword are reminiscent of the Judeo-Christian angel of Death, Azrael, who, in original depictions, removed souls from the dead using a sword. Unlike Hades, however, Azrael was more so a force of good (albeit unmoved by appeals or pleas). Similar to the character of the same name in the video game God of War I, II, III, Hades was destroyed by Kratos on Underworld. Kratos Killing Hades using Claws Of Hades After Kratos took it from Hades hand. Kratos Trying to be take Soul Hades on his body after soul hades on Kratos. Kratos can pass River Styx using Soul Hades.
