Chapter 22 - Chapter 7 Raiders at the Riverbank

The peaceful rhythm of farm life was shattered one fateful morning when Hassan heard urgent cries from the riverbank. Rushing to the scene, he found a group of armed men, rough and hardened, claiming the fertile land by the river as their own.

Their leader, a burly man with a scar across his cheek, stepped forward. "This land belongs to our village," he declared. "You've been trespassing on our territory and stealing what's rightfully ours."

Hassan stood firm, his gaze steady. "This land is not just ours. It belongs to everyone who works it honestly — humans and spirits alike. We have built the Rift Farmers' Guild to protect it."

The raiders scoffed, and tensions rose. Hassan knew this could spark violence if not handled carefully. He raised his hand for calm and proposed a challenge.

"If you want this land, prove it by working it alongside us. Show your strength not through weapons, but through farming and cooperation. If you refuse, we will defend our home."

The raiders hesitated. Some muttered among themselves, skeptical of Hassan's boldness. But one young raider, eyes curious and less hardened, stepped forward.

"I'll give it a try," he said quietly.

Over the next days, Hassan invited the raiders to join the Guild's efforts, teaching them how to work with the magical soil and crops. Slowly, suspicion gave way to grudging respect as the newcomers saw the land's true power.

But not all raiders were willing to cooperate. A faction plotted in the shadows, preparing for a violent takeover.

One night, a group attacked the farm's outer fields, setting fire to the millet and destroying fences. Hassan and his allies rushed to defend their home, fighting back with both magic and sheer will.

The battle was fierce but brief. The raiders who wanted peace stood down, helping to extinguish the flames and repair the damage.

In the aftermath, Hassan called for a new treaty, one that would bind all farmers — newcomers and old settlers — to the Rift Farmers' Guild. It was clear that only through unity could the land survive the challenges ahead.

As dawn broke, the riverbank lay scarred but hopeful — a symbol of the fragile peace Hassan was determined to protect.
