I am going to and I will change my fate.
I wasn't going to let myself go down the path Laurel had chosen, Because I had decided that this time i would make sure that Laurel Miller lives her life.. I would definitely live the life I was supposed to live before, but now, as Laurel.
The bus dropped me at the station, and I walked the remaining distance to the Miller estate, asking directions from the locals standing around the area, rain was shattering furiously, the strong wind blowing. Upon my arrival, the guards let me in. I was cold, shivering due to my drenched body. My clothes clung to me as I walked in.
The tall gates of mansion welcomed me leaving me in awe, i had imagined the Miller estate to be this frantic...but this...this was awesome...
Greenry all around me, flowers, trees, fountains and whatnot...this was my life, and I am loving it.
I stepped up on the porch stairs as another gaurd immediately opened the door for me, his head was lowered yet I could see the shock and fear in his face after acknowledging my presence.
I stepped inside the enormous mansion, getting amazed by it's beauty and walked in...what i could calling the living room.
I saw a muscular man sitting in the living room... black hair... grey eyes... adorned in an expensive-looking suit... with a cup of coffee in his hands.
And beside him was sitting another man... a man with red hair and blue eyes... same skin color...
It was easy to tell... he was the brother.
Kalix Miller.
The famous Miller. The successor of the Miller family. A caring yet strict brother — one drenched in wealth from head to toe.
"Laurel!" he spoke with urgency as soon as he saw me and stood up and engulfed me in a tight hug.
"Where were you? We have been searching for you since yesterday... are you okay?" He asked as he removed the coat he was wearing and wrapped it around my soaked body and held my shoulder in a gentle but firm grip, his hands were trembling as if he was the one drenched in the freezing rainwater.
My brother kept asking me questions, but my eyes—they were stuck on the man before me.
"With whom did you come here? Where were you all this time? Do you even have any idea how worried we were?... you need rest right ? should I call a doctor for you? no i should" He kept bombarding me with questions.
"K-Kalix, relax!" I said. I was hesitant, as I was getting questions thrown at me that I didn't know how to answer, that too by a man, i didn't know at all.
Kalix sighed as he stepped back a bit, giving me a little space.
"I'm sorry I freaked out. I just got so scared when you didn't come back home yesterday...Dad, and I—we all were so worried." My brother kept talking as I turned my face to him—then to the man standing next to Kalix.
Cassian Valor
Ash-grey eyes, dusted with a hint of blue, like winter mornings before dawn.
I kept staring, but he didn't look away either. My brother, who saw the interaction, broke the silence.
"Dad had contacted almost every single person in his contact list to look for you. We were so worried. Katherine had also gone with Dad in case they got any news of your whereabouts." Kalix kept saying things that I didn't pay full attention to. He was surely not liking the way Cassian and I were staring at each other.
"Laurie...Cassian...came here to help me look for you, but now that you are here...his work is done here." He began talking to me about him, hoping to divert us.
"I see— I... mean th...thank you...so much" I replied.
Cassian, who had been standing quietly in front of me, observing each and every nook and cranny of my shivering body, finally brought his hand in front of me.
"Cassian Valor. It's nice to finally meet the enfamous Laurel Miller, personally." His rough yet soothing voice sent a shiver through my already trembling and soaked form.
I shook hands with him as I tried hard not to show how I was feeling... my stomach was fluttering and my heart was pounding within my chest.
I'm not supposed to like him—do anything that will give my family or him the idea of arranging a marriage between us.
I have to hate him.
I have to make sure that we don't get married, make sure i don't end up dead like laurel.
"I think, Laurie, you should go and get changed. You don't look well. I will call a doctor to check on you. I will also ask Katherine and Dad to stop looking for you and come back.
Cassian and I also contacted many others to find you... we have to inform everyone that you are here." Kalix sighed as he brought his hand to my lower back and held my right hand with his other one, caressing my icy cold body.
I nodded as I kept staring at Cassian. He was still shamelessly looking at me—no hint of fear of my brother's
Presence or anything... My heart rate was elevated, cheeks turning a bright shade of red as shyness took over me, and I quickly walked upstairs.
Kalix was saying something from behind but i didn't focised on it at all.
As soon as I walked upstairs, I was lost. I didn't know which room belonged to Laurel. All I knew was that her room was on the second floor. Which room? That was never told in the novel.
I looked here and there, trying to look for my room, as I saw three maids walking in my direction. They looked shocked as they bowed a little at me.
I didn't know why they were looking at me so weirdly. Was it because of how I looked, or how Laurel—I got lost yesterday and now I'm back?
"Ms. Miller, how are you?" said one of the maids.
"I'm good. However, I am feeling a little lightheaded... so if you could show me—take me—to my room?"
The maids looked at each other but then took me to my room, and as soon as I entered, I was in shock at the luxury before me...
A large room, it was triple the size of what I had in my previous life. white coloured walls with baby pink with a hint of white furniture, In the middle, there was a large shiny diamond chandelier hanging from the ceiling, and further apart was a beautiful baby pink king-sized bed, a bathroom in the corner, and beside it was the door to my own walk-in closet, a wall mirror right next to the bed covered with gold and an open balcony... Everything was so pretty it almost felt like a dream.
The maids prepared a hot bath for me and then left me all alone. Entering the bathroom it felt as if I had entered another room, a simple bath tub, a jacuzzi, a shower cubicle, and a sink with large mirrors lined together. The counter had every kind of skin care and hair products.
Removing my damp clothes, I sat in the hot water bath.
As soon as my body came in contact with the warm water, a heavy sigh escaped my lips, and I leaned my head against the edge of the tub, thinking about everything that had happened to me and who, I was.
