Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Passing By at Ten Thousand Meters Altitude

Whoosh—

Saitama grabbed Pepper Potts in one arm, bullets raining down and blasting deep craters into the ground, while the two of them were already a hundred meters away in the blink of an eye.

"Hm?! Who are you?"

The angry voice of Obadiah Stane boomed from inside the massive iron armor.

"Let me tell you, Stane! He's the spokesperson I hired—Saitama."

Boom—

A blinding flash streaked from the night sky—Tony Stark, clad in the red Mark II, shot forward like a missile, ramming into the giant armor's chest. The impact hurled both metal behemoths into a wall, smashing it apart.

"Take care of Pepper for me, Saitama! This guy's mine!"

Saitama's eyes lit up. Oh, nice—Stark had already built a new suit of armor. Not bad at all… though still a bit uglier than Genos.

The red Mark II already had the full look of Iron Man, but compared to it, Stane's massive suit clearly sacrificed agility for raw strength and armor.

Weapons unfolded from both suits, the two clashing in a storm of explosions. The heat waves were strong enough to make it hard to stand.

But the outcome wasn't looking good.

With only the Mark I's arc reactor powering it, the Mark II was clearly weaker in raw force, completely pushed back by Stane's armor.

"Saitama! Go help Tony! Please!"

Pepper was frantic as she saw Tony grabbed by the leg, swung like garbage, and slammed into the ground, the steel bridge beneath him collapsing.

Saitama: "…"

What the hell?! You're just throwing me into this now?

"If this keeps up, Tony's going to die! The Mark I reactor isn't meant for combat—please, Saitama!"

Tears welled in her eyes.

"…Fine. Stay here, I'll finish this and be right back."

Saitama sighed. He was just too much of a nice guy.

With a sudden burst—

The ground cratered ten meters wide beneath him. A gust whipped Pepper's skirt as she stared, stunned, at Saitama's vanishing figure.

She had… only meant for him to fire from the ground to distract Stane. She had no idea of his true strength.

Eight thousand meters high.

The air thinned and temperatures dropped rapidly.

"Remaining power: 13%, sir," came J.A.R.V.I.S.'s voice in Tony's helmet.

"Keep climbing," Tony said firmly.

He knew he couldn't match Stane's strength or energy reserves. His only chance was to exploit something Stane hadn't considered—extreme cold at high altitude freezing the suit.

"12%, sir."

"Go!"

"7%, sir."

"Just put it on the screen, don't tell me!"

He was betting his life on this.

But below, Stane's massive suit wasn't far behind—thanks to the second-generation reactor, it was even slightly faster than the Mark II.

"You can't escape, Tony! I'll end you here! Hahahaha!"

Stane's manic laughter filled the comms, his energy readings still high. He had to admit—Tony's reactor was a masterpiece.

The situation was dire—Tony's face was pale.

"Knock, knock, knock~~"

Suddenly—

He heard… someone knocking on his armor?!

What the hell?!

Tony turned his head—and there, parallel to him, was a bald man—

No, a man with a cape billowing behind him, rocketing upward like a missile—Saitama—just casually passing by.

Down below—

Stane: "…Am I seeing things? Is there… a guy up there?"

"Hey Stark! Looks like your armor's running out of juice. Pepper's waiting for you down there. Want me to take care of the big guy?"

Saitama's voice, shouted over the roaring wind, carried upward.

Take care of the big guy?

The words reached Stane loud and clear, his face darkening. And seeing someone flying around at ten thousand meters… it was almost enough to break his mind.

"Stane's armor strength is—"

Tony's eyes lit with a bit of hope… then worry. They were too high. He knew Saitama couldn't fly, and Stane's armor was incredibly tough.

But before he could finish, Saitama, still in mid-air from his massive leap, placed one finger on Tony's helmet.

"What… what is he doing?"

Tony froze—

Then came a deafening clang, like a giant bell being struck, rattling his brain and nearly knocking him out.

"Warning! Head armor damage +30%."

The force sent Tony and his suit plummeting, smashing into a building not far from Pepper with a thunderous crash.

"Uh… maybe I used a bit too much force," Saitama muttered.
