Penny's POV
I never realized silence could feel this heavy until now.
"There's another family involved," Dad says, his voice surprisingly calm.
My chest tightens. I feel Andrew's hand brush against mine under the table. "Which family?" I ask, my voice coming out quieter than I intend.
Dad looks at me, then at Nick, then back to Mom before finally answering.
"The Bennetts."
Jess is the first to react. She straightens in her chair like she's just been hit with an electric current. "The Bennetts? As in the real estate Bennetts? The ones with properties all over the coast?"
Dad gives a single nod. "Yes, them."
Mom exhales slowly. She's always been good at holding herself together, but I can see the unease in her eyes.
I grip the edge of my chair. "But why them, though? What do they want?"
