Chapter 7 - The Forgotten Kingdom's Gate

The journey began at dawn.

The ancient forest of Aurelian had grown unusually quiet, as though even nature itself knew that the lost heir of Elysium had finally chosen his path.

Kael walked ahead of Seraphina and Arven, his thoughts filled with the truths he had learned. The voices of the echoes were quieter now—not because they had left him, but because they no longer felt like strangers. For the first time in his life, he had accepted them as a part of who he was.

"The forgotten kingdom lies beyond the Mountains of Ashen Light," Seraphina explained as they travelled along an ancient stone path. "Few who entered ever returned."

"And those who did?" Kael asked.

"They never spoke of what they saw."

Arven tightened the strap of his sword.

"The kingdom protects its secrets well."

As they climbed higher into the mountains, Kael noticed strange symbols carved into the stone walls. They were identical to the glowing mark on his hand.

"The same symbol," he murmured.

Seraphina smiled faintly.

"The royal bloodline left those marks centuries ago. They only reveal themselves to one acknowledged by the echoes."

Kael placed his hand on one of the carvings. Immediately, golden light spread across the stone.

A voice echoed in his mind.

"Welcome home, heir of Elysium."

He quickly pulled his hand away.

"The mountain spoke to me."

"The kingdom remembers its rulers," Seraphina said. "Elysium has been waiting for you far longer than you realize."

The deeper they ventured into the mountains, the colder the air became. Dark clouds gathered overhead, and Kael could feel something watching them.

Suddenly, Arven stopped walking.

"We're being followed."

The three of them turned around.

Several figures wearing silver masks emerged from the shadows of the mountains. Their armour was unlike anything Kael had seen before—ancient yet untouched by time.

They carried no banners and bore no symbols of any kingdom.

"Who are they?" Kael asked quietly.

Seraphina's expression immediately changed.

"The Gatekeepers."

"The what?"

"They are the protectors of the forgotten kingdom," she explained. "Their duty is to prevent anyone unworthy from entering."

One of the masked warriors stepped forward and pointed his sword at Kael.

"No outsider may enter the sacred kingdom."

Kael frowned.

"I'm not an outsider."

"Prove it."

The warrior's voice carried centuries of authority.

"The true heir carries more than royal blood. He carries the will of Elysium itself."

Without warning, the warriors attacked.

Kael drew his sword and blocked the first strike. Although their movements were swift and precise, he noticed something strange.

The echoes.

He could hear them.

The warriors were whispering—not aloud, but through the ancient memories within their armour.

"Protect the kingdom."

"Await the heir."

"Test his worth."

Kael realized they were not trying to kill him.

They were testing him.

"Do not fight with anger," one of the echoes whispered.

Kael closed his eyes for a brief moment and listened.

Instead of attacking, he lowered his sword.

"I am Kael Arwyn," he said firmly. "I do not seek power or conquest. I seek the truth of my kingdom and the means to protect it."

The mountain began to tremble.

Golden light erupted from the mark on his hand and spread across the battlefield.

The masked warriors immediately stopped moving.

One by one, they knelt before him.

"The heir has returned," they said in unison.

The silver masks disappeared into particles of light, revealing ancient guardians beneath them.

Their leader removed his helmet and bowed his head.

"For one thousand years, we have guarded the path leading to the heart of Elysium."

Kael looked at him in surprise.

"You've been waiting for me?"

"We have been waiting for the one who hears the echoes."

The guardian raised his hand and pointed toward the mountains.

The stone walls began to move.

Massive gates hidden within the mountain slowly opened, revealing a breathtaking sight.

Beyond the gates stood the forgotten kingdom of Elysium.

Golden towers stretched toward the heavens. Rivers of glowing crystal flowed throughout the city. Ancient trees illuminated the streets with silver leaves that shimmered beneath the sunlight.

Despite being abandoned for centuries, the kingdom remained untouched by time.

Kael stood speechless.

"This..."

His voice trembled.

"It's beautiful."

Tears filled Seraphina's eyes.

"Welcome home, Your Highness."

As Kael stepped through the gates, the voices of countless echoes welcomed him.

"The heir has returned."

"The kingdom lives once more."

"The prophecy has begun."

Far beneath the kingdom, hidden within an ancient chamber, the Echo Crystal shone brighter than ever before.

However, it was not alone.

A shadow stood before it.

Its crimson eyes slowly opened as it smiled.

"So, he has finally arrived."

The figure placed its hand upon the ancient crystal.

"Come to me, Kael Arwyn."

The darkness surrounding the chamber began to grow.

"The game begins now."
