Chapter 52 - Explosion

After advancing for a while, the group climbed over a pile of architectural ruins and finally saw the Thassean Temple not far away.

Above the temple stood a colossal statue of Saint Giles, gleaming with holy golden light.

At this moment, several Red Word Warriors were guarding a Chaos Altar, continuously using Warp energy to bombard the tightly shut temple gate.

Marcus raised his hellgun and tried to shoot a few times. However, the laser beams were all blocked by the Warp energy shield that enveloped the area around the temple.

"We must destroy those blasphemous altars; the traitors are using them to maintain their Warp sorcery," Titus, who had rich experience fighting Chaos, immediately said.

The group immediately moved, sweeping away scattered mortal rebels and Red Sorcerers along the way. Soon, they arrived in front of a Chaos Altar. After eliminating a dozen Red Word Warriors around them, the group gathered around the Chaos Altar.

In the center of the altar's intricate and ornate carvings and patterns, a yellow Warp Evil Eye was emitting intense Chaos power. Marcus raised his plasma pistol and, with a lift of his hand, fired a plasma blast.

In the original game, these Chaos Altars would have to be destroyed by hand, by crushing the Warp Evil Eye within them. But the reality was, nothing a plasma shot couldn't solve. If it did, then another shot. With two shots, the Warp Evil Eye instantly shattered, and the altar collapsed with it.

The Warp energy shield covering the temple was instantly weakened by a few points. Seeing that it was effective, the group rushed to the other Chaos Altars in the surrounding area without stopping. After destroying all the remaining Chaos Altars, the shield finally disappeared completely.

Upon entering the temple area, Marcus looked up at the statue of Saint Giles above him, filled with emotion. Under the Archangel's gaze, this war, which had spanned ten thousand years, had still not ended; instead, it was escalating.

"Be careful, those despicable traitors certainly have power they haven't used yet," Titus, familiar with Chaos's ways, reminded in a deep voice.

Sure enough.

After advancing a short distance, as the group was about to approach the altar that was spewing Chaos rays and bombarding the temple gate, in the surrounding air, three Warp Rifts suddenly appeared. Dozens of Red Sorcerers, hundreds of Fiends, and countless mortal rebels quickly poured out of these Warp Rifts. Furthermore, these rifts did not close, continuing to spew out more Fiends endlessly.

Leading them was a new Thousand Sons Sorcerer.

Marcus's face immediately changed, and he thought, "This is bad." This scale of Chaos forces was simply not something the five of them could handle.

Before Marcus could decide whether to use the power of the Codex, the Thousand Sons Sorcerer floating in the air waved his staff. The Red Word Warriors, emanating a strong Chaos aura, and the Fiends immediately lunged at the five individuals.

Titus and the others did not flinch in the slightest; facing Chaos traitors, the gene-sons of the Sons of Vengeance would never retreat a single step.

"For the glory of Ultramar! For the Emperor!" Titus, leading the charge, roared and rushed towards the Thousand Sons with Chairon, Gadriel, and Valerius.

Taking advantage of the chaos, Marcus quickly found cover and hid.

"As expected of Roboute Guilliman's sons, they're stubborn," Marcus muttered softly, then poked his head out to look at the battlefield. Although Titus and the others were tough men from the Second Company, facing so many Thousand Sons traitors, they quickly fell into a disadvantage.

Raising his hellgun, Marcus first blew off the heads of more than a dozen Fiends. But this was just a drop in the bucket. An endless stream of Fiends and mortal rebels continued to pour out of the Warp Rift. There was only one way to quickly defeat this Thousand Sons force: to first eliminate the Thousand Sons Sorcerer leading them.

Without further delay, Marcus immediately summoned the petite Neurothrope, then had it travel through the architectural ruins behind him to a nearby spire. With the Neurothrope's enhanced connection, Marcus could summon Tyranid warbeasts from a greater distance.

While the Neurothrope was on its way, Marcus didn't idle either. Psychic Flying Knives quickly reaped the lives of the mortal rebels, significantly reducing the pressure on Titus and the other four in the field. Although these rebels didn't have high-powered weapons like hellguns, the continuous laser gun volleys alone were annoying enough.

While controlling the psychic flying knives to harvest the lives of the mortal rebels, Marcus also continuously used his hellgun and plasma pistol to kill the Fiends pouring out of the Warp Rift. Fortunately, because Titus and the other four were drawing fire, the Thousand Sons Sorcerer didn't pay too much attention to him.

Soon, through the psychic link, Marcus could feel that the Neurothrope had reached the designated location. Without further delay, Marcus immediately summoned several Tyranid warbeasts. On the spire not far away, Spore Beasts and Enhanced Lictors appeared beside the Neurothrope.

The Enhanced Lictor shrieked, then used its psychic power to amplify the Spore Beasts beside it. The latter inserted its six sharp blade-legs into the ground, then raised the thick cannon barrel on its back. Amplified by the Enhanced Lictor, the Spore Beast was rapidly spewing out a large number of Spore Mines. In just a few minutes, dozens of Spore Mines were already floating around the spire.

Even the tenacious Spore Beast, after spewing out so many Spore Mines in such a short time, inevitably fell into a weakened state. However, it had completed its mission.

Next, the Enhanced Lictor beside it began to use its terrifying psychic power, enveloping these Spore Mines and throwing them towards the center of the battlefield. Under the Enhanced Lictor's psychic embrace, dozens of Spore Mines rushed at extremely high speed towards the Fiends and Red Word Warriors.

Above the battlefield, the Thousand Sons Sorcerer, who had been floating in the air, enjoying the scene of the Ultramarines being besieged below, immediately noticed these powerful Spore Mines.

"Filthy xenos, how dare you disturb the Lord of Change's ritual!" Then, the Thousand Sons Sorcerer snorted coldly, about to wave his staff and cast sorcery to intercept these filthy xenos creations.

Marcus, hiding in the shadows, immediately seized the opportunity and released an Energy Feedback. Instantly, the massive psychic drain and the pain of structural damage to his body caused the Thousand Sons Sorcerer's blasphemous sorcery to fail.

At the same time, dozens of Spore Mines also rushed into the sky above the battlefield. In the midst of the battlefield, the four constantly fighting Ultramarines naturally also noticed these deadly Spore Mines. Without any hesitation, the few immediately disengaged from close-quarters combat with the Red Word Warriors and Fiends, and all took cover behind obstacles.

"Bang bang bang!" A continuous series of explosions completely engulfed the entire battlefield. Under the precise guidance of the Enhanced Lictor, each Spore Mine landed in the densest areas of Fiends and Red Word Warriors. The corrosive acid produced by the Spore Mine explosions instantly splattered onto the blue skin of the Fiends and the ornate power armor of the Red Word Warriors.
