We were at home , and my mind was on the verge of bursting , the question kept spinning in the circles - who would steal the potion and the spell book ?
And how could he /she do it with such tight security ?
It had to be someone from inside , someone who knew the layout , the timing, the guard' s routines.
And more than that ... They had to have grudge against sophia .
This wasn't just about the potion or spell book , This was personal, and the worst part?
We still didn't know who they were or where the potion and spell book had gone ?
How were we supposed to figure that out ? I didn't know what to do or even where to start .
" Everything felt like a dead end "
I leaned back, closing my eyes , trying to remember , every detail , every moment after the ceremony began .
Draven was also sitting beside me , lost in throught , trying to figure out what we could do - how we'd find out where the spell book and potion were.
Then suddenly, he looked at me and asked where had sophia gone , when the nobles were having the urgent meeting ?
She said her make - up was smudged , so she went to washroom , i told him .
But when she came back - the guards were already accusing her , they said the potion and the spell book had been stolen by her , and she was the last one seen near the chamber .
But when sophia went to the washroom, the spell book and the potion, had already been stolen , so I don't understand their logic in accusing her ?
" I think they are accusing her because of the fabric of her dress , and because of who her father is " my brother said in suspicious tone .
I paused, my voice lowering - it all happened so fast , too fast .
Let's go ask the guards and the maids , what they saw right after the King started taking the oath , my brother said standing up from his seat .
" Sophia also said she saw someone inside the magic room " that's why she went there to check.
If sophia 's telling the truth, someone must have seen her and something unusual, and if she lying.... Then he paused.
So we started walking towards the hall, the place where the washroom was, and where the potion and spell book had been kept .
We needed answers , someone must ' ve seen something , A movement, A shadow , A lie , hidden in plain sight .
If we were going to uncover the truth, it had to start here - with the people who were closest to that hallway, when it all happened?
We don't have much time - it's already morning we haven't found anything yet , from now on , we need to move fast .
So we decided to split up, my brother went towards the vault , where the potion and the spell book had been kept , i turned down the hallway leading to the washroom retracing sophia 's steps.
"The corridor near the washroom was too quiet"
I walked slowly, eyes scanning every inch of the floor , the walls, the corners, suddenly i noticed the maid who usually worked in this corridor - quiet , older, the king's people.
I stepped towards her quickly , when the nobles having there meeting , did you see lady sophia around here? Near the hallway?
The maid hesitated , here, eyes shifting nervously, yes master .... I saw her , she came here to fix her makeup , she said , voice low .
" She was inside for ... 15 minutes " i knew sophia wasn't lying .
Did you notice notice anything unusual here? I asked her, "no master .... Nothing "
I studied her for a moment, her nervous hands , her rushed tone, then i nodded slowly " Alright , you may return to your work"
She bowed and quickly walked away, disappeared down the hall .
Once she was gone , i stepped into the washroom , it was still and silent too perfect , too untouched , but something caught my eyes.
" Folded neatly beside the mirror .... Was a letter"
It wasn't dropped by accidentally, it was left here.....intentionally , for me.
" Sophia was right , someone was trying to trap her , he had been setting all the plans and of course , she had been seen someone inside the magic room "
I was about to open the letter , curiosity burning in my chest - but before I could unfold it , my brother 's voice broke through the silence .
" Did you find something " he asked , stepping into the washroom .
I quickly slipped the letter into my coat 's pocket , trying not show anything on my face - "No" I said quietly - nothing yet .
"But my heart was pounding, because i had something , something someone wanted only me to see"
