Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Yun~Trash?

Outside S City, several heavily armed burly men were examining Sang Ji's corpse. A lean man squatted beside it, staring unblinkingly at the zombie's bloodied, shattered head, unable to suppress a gulp.

Sang Ji was one of the zombies they least wanted to provoke—its flesh tougher than steel, impervious even to his Wind Blades, let alone ordinary firearms. Yet someone had blown its head clean off.

"My God, who is this person? They're insanely strong!" he couldn't help exclaiming.

A companion nearby wondered, "Could it be the same person who killed our four brothers?"

"Can't rule it out! What I'm curious about is—what kind of weapon is this?!" The lean man fished out a shell from the gory mess, its diameter thicker than a woman's wrist.

"Is... is this a tank armor-piercing shell?" his companion gasped.

"No, no—the lookout said they were driving a modified RV, not a tank! Did they scavenge a tank's cannon and shells, then mount them on their vehicle?"

"Is that even possible?"

"Ahem—Lao Si, whoever they are, we need to keep tabs. They might have other powerful weapons. If we can eliminate or recruit them, our Zuo Mountain Safe Zone's strength would skyrocket."

"Don't worry, I'll send men to tail them immediately and find out who they are!"

On the highway littered with abandoned vehicles, an armored RV bulldozed through obstructing cars, speeding westward. Behind the wheel, Yun Huo drove excitedly to blasting music.

Meanwhile, Bai Wen dozed in the RV's lounge chair, undisturbed. Yun Fei Wu thoughtfully signaled Yun Huo to turn off the music.

Bai Wen wasn't actually asleep—he was pondering Wang Ya's identity. Her sudden rampage had confirmed she was at least a half-Zombie, if not fully turned. No wonder Wang Han had kept her hidden, fearing she'd lose control and attack indiscriminately.

He needed to stay wary of Wang Ya. A gut feeling told him she might bring unexpected... surprises.

Bang!

A gunshot snapped Bai Wen from his thoughts. Opening his eyes, he saw Tai Long aiming an assault rifle at zombies outside—and missing.

Yun Fei Wu immediately scolded, "Tai Long! Have some awareness! Can't you see Brother Bai resting? Practice later!"

"Sis, Brother Bai, my bad—" Tai Long apologized hastily.

Bai Wen waved dismissively. "It's fine. Sharpening your skills means sharing the load—that's good. Keep at it."

Encouraged, Tai Long resumed target practice.

Yan Jiang and Hua Duo raised their hands. "We want to train too! We'll help share the burden!"

"Sure, plenty of guns to go around." Bai Wen pointed to a crate beneath the seats—filled with firearms scavenged during explorations. Most had been damaged, but SCV's repairs made them operational again.

These people were all handling guns for the first time, brimming with excitement as they familiarized themselves with their weapons. Yan Jiang and Hua Duo couldn't resist loading bullets and firing at the Zombies wandering on the highway.

But none of them hit their targets.

Yun Fei Wu clutched a silver pistol with both hands, looking utterly mismatched with her usual graceful demeanor—it was painfully awkward! Seeing everyone else firing away, she stubbornly loaded a bullet herself and clumsily aimed at the small window before pulling the trigger.

The first shot didn't fire.

Bai Wen smirked, wondering if Yun Fei Wu was just plain useless.

Tai Long hurried over, flipped the safety off, and patiently instructed her. Only then did Yun Fei Wu half-understand. She fired again, but the recoil sent her tumbling onto her backside, clutching her wrist in pain.

Bai Wen smirked again.

Yan Jiang said, "Sister Yun, you're used to a pampered life. Maybe firearms just aren't for you."

"But—but if I can't shoot, how can I help you all?" Yun Fei Wu whimpered, tears welling in her eyes as she rubbed her wrist.

Yan Jiang covered her face, choosing her words carefully. "We don't need your help!"

"That's not acceptable! If I can't even shoot, I'll just be deadweight. I have to learn!" she insisted stubbornly.

"Fine, but I don't recommend guns for you. How about something simpler?" Yan Jiang pulled a Hand Grenade from the crate and handed it to Yun Fei Wu.

She explained carefully, "This is a Hand Grenade. Just pull the pin and throw it!"

"That's easy! If you'd given me this earlier, my wrist wouldn't be hurt!" Yun Fei Wu coughed awkwardly, took the grenade, rolled down a window, yanked the pin, and tossed it out.

Uh—

Everyone stared dumbfounded at the grenade still in Yun Fei Wu's hand—and the pin flying through the air.

"Ahhh—!" Yan Jiang and Yun Duo shrieked, their legs giving out in terror. Bai Wen reacted fastest, lunging forward to snatch the grenade from her grip and hurl it away.

BOOM! The deafening explosion left everyone gaping at the smoking crater in the distance before turning furious glares at Yun Fei Wu.

Yun Fei Wu protested, "W-wasn't I supposed to pull the pin and throw it?!"

"We meant throw the grenade, not just the pin!" Yan Jiang and Hua Duo roared. They'd nearly been blown to bits by this woman. How could someone so talented at singing be so utterly useless at this?

Huh? Fei Wu (Flying Dance)? Fei Wu (Useless)?

She really lived up to her name!

Bai Wen said coldly, "From now on, she doesn't touch anything dangerous. Understood?"

"Don't worry, Boss Bai. We'd like to stay alive," Yan Jiang said with a bitter laugh.

"We're approaching Hesha Town. There's a grain depot there—we need to restock," Bai Wen suddenly announced.

"If there's a grain depot, there must be survivors. Will they just let us take it?"

"Of course not. Not only will they refuse, they'll capture us—men for labor, women for... well." Bai Wen smirked darkly.

"Then why go there at all? Why not just bypass it?" Yun Duo asked fearfully.

"We need the supplies, so we can't avoid it. Our job is simple: kill anyone who resists, take the grain, and leave. What's so complicated about that?"

"Easy~" Everyone lowered their heads in exasperation. Of course it was simple for you, but for us, it might as well be climbing to the heavens.

"Alright, I can't drive the car inside—it has to stay parked out here. We need to move now. If their sentries spot us, they'll be prepared, and that's the last thing I want to see."

At long last, the moment arrives~~
