The roar of the engine quickly attracted Zombies, which swarmed around frantically but were utterly powerless to stop the RV's advance. The vehicle's front was welded with thick steel plates, densely packed steel spikes, and a triangular blade. Wherever it passed, Green Blood splattered as the triangular blade decapitated every Zombie in its path.
After rounding a corner, even more Zombies appeared ahead. Yun Huo, his forehead slick with sweat, pressed harder on the accelerator, plowing forward and sending Zombies flying or crushing them beneath the wheels.
Unfazed by fear, the Zombies continued their frenzied assault on the RV, their impacts producing deafening metallic clangs.
Inside the RV, the others were equally tense, securing their seatbelts to avoid injury. Suddenly, Zombies began leaping down from an overpass, slamming onto the roof with thunderous thuds. However, the SCV had anticipated this—the roof was also reinforced with steel plates and spikes. The leaping Zombies were impaled clean through, yet they didn't die. Instead, they grew even more frenzied, bashing against the steel plates until their skulls split open, still refusing to stop.
Bai Wen pulled out several grenades and tossed them through the window, sending pursuing Zombies flying in a spectacular explosion, the scene momentarily awe-inspiring.
Gradually, the group's tension faded, replaced by exhilaration. With a roar, Yun Huo floored the accelerator, ruthlessly mowing down the Zombies blocking their path.
Finally, the Speed-Type Zombies appeared. Agile as monkeys, they closed in swiftly, clinging to the RV with razor-sharp claws that screeched against the steel plates, sending chills down everyone's spines.
Tai Long aimed his pistol through a small, bowl-sized window and fired. Though his accuracy was lacking, the close range allowed him to pick off several Zombies clinging to the vehicle. He grew excited—this was his first time shooting Zombies.
Bai Wen wasn't idle either, extending his sniper rifle out the window. Each shot blew apart a Speed-Type Zombie's skull—no matter how fast they were, bullets were faster.
After another turn, the road ahead opened up, and the Zombie horde thinned significantly. They seemed to have broken through the encirclement, but no one let their guard down, nerves still taut in case another wave appeared.
Just then, Yun Shan, sitting in the passenger seat, let out a startled cry. Bai Wen turned to look and couldn't help but suck in a sharp breath.
Ahead on the street stood a Zombie rooster the size of an elephant. Its body was completely featherless, its eyes blood-red, and its beak elongated and razor-sharp, gleaming like polished steel. With each thunderous step, the asphalt cracked under its immense weight, leaving massive footprints in its wake. The sheer presence of the creature was terrifying.
Bai Wen licked his lips, wondering just how many people this Zombie rooster had consumed to grow so enormous.
Wasting no time, he popped open the sunroof and climbed out, setting up his sniper rifle and pulling the trigger.
Piu! Piu! Piu! The bullets struck the Zombie rooster with metallic dings, failing to leave even a scratch.
This is a sniper rifle, yet it can't even penetrate its defense. How terrifying!
He immediately pulled out two grenades and hurled them.
"Boom! Boom!" Two deafening explosions erupted beneath the zombie chicken's feet. The powerful shockwave only forced it back two steps, leaving it unharmed.
"Turn! Get us out of here!" Bai Wen shouted. Yun Huo instantly yanked the steering wheel, swerving onto another road with his foot practically stomping through the gas tank.
The RV roared as it sped down the street, plowing through one car after another with thunderous crashes.
The zombie chicken suddenly threw its head back with a screech and charged toward them.
Bai Wen, lying prone on the roof, kept pulling the trigger, hoping to slow it down. But the creature's impenetrable defense rendered his attacks useless—it only sped up. He wanted to aim for its eyes, but between the car's jolts and the zombie's erratic movements, landing a precise shot was nearly impossible.
He'd already missed countless times.
Just then, the SCV he'd sent out to collect crystals returned. Moving swiftly, it reached Bai Wen's side and miraculously produced a massive rod-like object. At first glance, Bai Wen was stunned—then ecstatic.
How could he not recognize this? After countless rounds of StarCraft II, he knew it instantly.
Jet-black coating, 1.6 meters long, rugged lines, and a monstrous 80mm caliber—its gaping muzzle looked like a beast ready to devour its prey, sending chills down the spine.
The C-14 Impaler, a multi-function Gauss rifle—the standard-issue weapon for Terran Marines. Capable of firing various ammunition types: metal spikes, hollow-point bullets, incendiary rounds, depleted uranium armor-piercing shells. The sheer destructive power of these electromagnetically propelled projectiles was beyond Bai Wen's current imagination.
But he was about to witness it firsthand.
He immediately tried to set up the Gauss rifle, but its weight was unbearable without CMC armor support. Even if he could lift it, the human body couldn't withstand firing it. While the electromagnetic rifle's recoil was negligible for powered armor, it was utterly unmanageable for an unaugmented person.
Thankfully, the SCV was prepared. Using its pressure clamp, it pried open a steel panel, revealing a rising metal mount.
Overjoyed, Bai Wen strained to place the Gauss rifle onto the mount. The SCV quickly adjusted it, transforming the C-14 into a vehicle-mounted cannon!
Even Bai Wen's usually cold demeanor cracked as he burst into laughter. "You damn plucked chicken—time to taste the C-14 Impaler! Depleted uranium armor-piercing round!"
"Fzzzt—splat!" The moment Bai Wen pulled the trigger, the zombie chicken's head exploded like a smashed watermelon. Its elephant-sized body collapsed with a ground-shaking thud, never to rise again.
"Go! Retrieve its crystal!" Bai Wen barked.
Without hesitation, the SCV leaped off the vehicle and returned with an apple-sized crystal extracted from the zombie chicken.
Bai Wen was thrilled. This crystal had to be worth at least 10 points. Combined with what the SCV had just gathered, his crystal count skyrocketed to 1,300.
Finally, they had taken down the zombie chickens, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief. They had finally left S City behind, and ahead lay a straight, wide highway!
Bai Wen stood atop the vehicle, gazing at the gradually receding S City with a faint smile. "Just wait for me, S City. It won't be long before I return. Have all the Crystals you've stockpiled ready—maybe this Commander will even spare your corpses!"
