Chapter 4 - Errand in the snow

The blizzard storm had finally stopped, huge deposits of snow were scattered around the forest coating everything around in a beautiful blanket of white even the house Emily and her mum resided.Emily who had come out of the house now wore a dull faded white overcoat, a hand and head warmer and a small muffler wrapped around her neck . When seen from afar she looked like a small snow goddess because of her white coat and pale skin she faded into the scenery with the only distincting feature being her ocean blue eyes.

Placing her padded feet on the snowy ground she headed in the direction of the druxehill market. Though she had never gone there alone she had once gone with her mother were she had mastered the road.Reaching the market she noticed it was filled with people going in out, the last time she had been here with her mother she remembered it to be quite busy but nothing held a candle to the number of people that had swooned in today, it was filled with shops selling different food and delicacies, people rushed over to the stalls to get their desired meals, the sight of the different exquisite dishes left Emily in awe as she had never such amount of food before and though her mom tried her best to offer her a considerable variety of dishes nothing could compare to what was laid before her eyes the scent wafted across her nose causing her stomach to churn in hunger. Across the stalls were steak stands which seemed to have garnered the attention of a lot of people who wanted a bite of the delicious and mouthwatering delicacy.

The soft sound of music was carried in the air which carried a sense of peace. Making sure her braided hair was covered in the head warmer she strolled further remembering the memory of the day she had come here with her mother;

"EMILY" her mother rushed back to cover her hair which fell open when she saw a stray dog and decided to feed it, in course of bending down her cap had fallen unbeknownst to her, Her opened hair gaining attention from the onlookers at the unusual color of the hair.

"What are you doing behind Emily, I told you to stand beside me and you fell back, and why is your hair not covered? I told you not to remove your cap anytime we are outside didn't I? Her mum scolded her in anger

" Yes you did mama, I'm sorry" she said as she bent her head, her voice filled with sadness and remorse as her mum rarely scolded her. " I just wanted to share my food with this dog as he looks hungry and lost, you always told me to share when others where in need I didn't know the cap fell" she muttered her voice barely audible. Hearing this her mother's gaze softened and she bent down and hugged her daughter lovingly;

"Oh Emily"! You're too kind,What am I going to do with you?! she said in a slightly exasperated and worried manner knowing a pure soul like this wasn't meant for this world as they get devored by the vultures who preyed on the naive and innocent ones.

Getting back to the present her eyes fell on the cans of fire which were put all around families hurdled around as they cuddled to receive warmth from the fire to prevent frostbites which was caused by the harsh weather.

GET YOUR BEAUTIFUL PENDANT HERE! she heard the voice of a man turning her head in the direction of the voice she saw a section of stalls which sold jewelries, people swooped in and out trying to bargain from the merchants on the beautifully displayed jewelries.

GET THIS DAZZLING PENDANT! fixing her gaze she saw a merchant who held a red pendant in his hand which held a tiny dandelion inside. The merchant continued; " IT WAS GOTTEN FROM THE SOUTH SEA IN CRIXSHORE CARVED BY THE FINEST JEWELERS IT IS SAID TO HOLD GREAT FORTUNE AND LUCK" he said in a bid to entice customers to get the jewelry.

Reaching the alley where had mother had instructed her to come she saw it was the same alley her mother had come to the day she had joined her in the market.

She remembered her mother's instructions vividly,

" Emily ,come here my pumpkin"scooting close to her mum in bed she heard her mum say in a slightly hoarsed and parched voice due to the constant cough , My sweet child she felt her mum caress her cheek, There is something you must do for mama, go to the druxehill market, follow through the dark alley I once showed you and reach a place called " LUX DOMUS" don't be scared Emily "I will be here" she smiled reassuringly but if she had looked closer she would have noticed the sadness in her mom's eyes.
