Chapter 26 - the last three days

Nick did everything in his power to heal Luna's broken soul. He picked her up from university, dropped her home, sat across from her at dinners, and tried to make her laugh with silly jokes. He even drove her to the sea one night, telling her, "If your pain could fit into this ocean, I'd dive in and drown it for you."

But no smile came. Luna's lips had forgotten what happiness tasted like.

Yet fate—so cruel, so merciless—wasn't done with her.

Her father's condition worsened. The man who never loved her fully, yet still cared enough to check on her, was dying. He wanted to see her one last time. Spain was calling her back.

Her flight was booked: 2nd June, 2028.

The exact same day Alex was scheduled for surgery.

Destiny had chosen to tear them apart in one cruel stroke.

Nick stayed close. He packed her bags, arranged her travel papers, and promised, "I'll go with you, Luna. You won't be alone this time." He didn't want her love anymore—he only wanted her peace. Yet despite his efforts, despite his care, Luna's face remained frozen in sorrow. Her eyes were like broken glass, reflecting nothing but emptiness.

Meanwhile, Alex…

The man she still loved silently was preparing for his own end. The tumor was growing like wildfire inside him. His surgery was in three days, and the doctors had already warned him: "There's almost no chance."

But Alex wasn't afraid of death. He was afraid of Luna. Afraid of what she would become when he was gone.

To distract himself, Alex threw himself into Elsa and Jake's wedding. He captured every moment with his camera—Elsa in her white gown, Jake adjusting his tie nervously, the laughter of guests. His face was calm, but his soul was bleeding.

Elsa, glowing like a bride should, whispered to him before the ceremony:

"If I have a daughter, I'll name her Luna. And if I have a son, I'll name him Alex. Only one child, Alex… but I want her to be brave like Luna, loyal like Luna, beautiful like Luna."

For the first time in weeks, Alex smiled. Not a real smile—just the ghost of one.

When the moment came, Alex held Elsa's delicate hand and placed it in Jake's. A symbolic gesture. A blessing. He clicked photos of the kiss, the laughter, the flowers falling like rain. He captured their beginning while silently preparing for his own ending.

After the celebrations, he returned home. Alone. He gathered every single memory of Luna—their photos, her letters, her laugh recorded in little videos—and packed them in a box. He handed it to Elsa with trembling hands.

"Keep this," he said softly. "Give it to Luna only when she's moved on. When she's married. When she has kids. Not before. Promise me."

Tears rolled down Elsa's cheeks. She hugged him tightly.

"I will, Alex. I promise."

And then… only two days remained.

Two days before Luna would fly away,

Two days before Alex would enter the operation theater,

Two days before destiny would decide if love could survive death—or if everything would fall apart forever.
