Chapter 28 - vol 2 : a new hope

Luna was in Spain now. Her father was struggling for his life, caught in a losing battle with death.

Far away in New Thailand, Alex was broken-hearted, waiting for Luna. He called, he texted — but Luna never answered. Not once. She had broken her phone, bought a new one with a new SIM, a new number, and deleted all her old social media accounts. She wanted everything new, so that Alex could never reach her again.

Alex even tried to contact Nick, but Nick ignored him too. Luna had already warned Nick, even given him a new phone, making sure Alex's words could never slip through.

And yet, Luna was not free from pain. She was heartbroken too, but convinced she was doing the "right" thing. While she was in Spain, drowning in her father's illness, Alex's life took a different turn. His brain tumor was improving. The headaches grew lighter, the shadow of death slowly fading. Elsa gave him his medicines regularly, and her husband, Jake, cared for Alex like a younger brother.

But Luna's father's fate was not so kind. A month later, he passed away. He had never loved Luna much, yet he had loved her more than her mother ever did. Her mother had always hated her — but Luna still loved her father. So when he died, she broke down completely. Nick stayed by her side, comforting her, but her mother only blamed her for her father's death.

Luna felt shattered. She had lost Alex. She had lost her father. She had lost everything meaningful. Even her career seemed gone.

After months of struggle, she finally found a good job. A year later, she became a lawyer in Singapore. She didn't know the language, but she still won her first case, and the victory made her glow with pride. Nick, who had followed her to Singapore, celebrated her success with her.

But happiness never lasted long for Luna. One day, after a heated argument with her boss, she lost her temper and resigned. Broken again, she returned to Spain, back to her hometown.

Her mother, now suffering from severe leg pain, continued to blame her for everything — her father's death, her failed career, her very existence. The hate was sharp and constant.

Luna decided to abandon law altogether. She and Nick lived in a small house. Nick was still jobless — his degree incomplete, his past weighing on him. Without qualifications, no one gave him a chance. Luna searched endlessly for work, but rejections piled up. The once-glamorous, wealthy girl of Spain now wore dark circles under her eyes. Her face looked tired, her hair messy, her spirit almost broken. From rich and admired, she had become lower-middle-class, nearly homeless.

Nick stayed by her side, struggling with his own hopelessness. His mother, too, had cut him off, misbehaving with everyone — Luna, Nick, relatives alike. She had been rude before, but now she was crueler than ever.

Meanwhile, Alex never stopped trying. He called Luna countless times. He even attempted to fly to Spain, but the plane was cancelled. He never got another chance. He longed to tell her the truth — about his brain tumor, about the fake affair with Elsa, about everything. But he didn't have the courage. And so, he stayed silent.

Yet somewhere, in the ruins of broken hearts and lost chances… a new little hope began to rise.
