Chapter 16 - jealously

Alex's headache was getting worse—throbbing like a hammer inside his skull. Finally, he decided to visit a doctor. But instead of going to a specialist, he went to see an old friend of his—a medical student who had just started practicing.

"Alex, relax," the doctor-friend said with a casual smile. "It's just a normal headache. Take these medicines, and you'll be fine in a few days."

Alex trusted him, maybe too much, and walked away convinced that everything would get better. But deep down, fate had a different plan.

Meanwhile, Luna was at home, completely buried in her law assignments. Her laptop screen glowed in the dim room as she typed away furiously, sipping cold coffee that had long lost its taste. Just then, Nick dropped by.

"Hey, Luna," he greeted, leaning casually against the doorway.

Soon, the two were chatting and laughing like best friends. They decided to make egg rolls together—burnt edges, uneven folds, but delicious in its own way. Between bites and giggles, Luna suddenly gasped.

"Oh, crap! I totally forgot—I need to plan the trip with Alex! We're going to Bali first and then Hawaii. I still have to pack everything and book half the stuff!"

Nick chuckled. "Classic Luna. Forget everything until the last second."

Before long, Alex returned. The moment he saw Nick, a flicker of unease crossed his face. He trusted Luna, but Nick's presence always scratched at his jealousy. Nick, sensing it, stood up politely.

"I should probably leave. You two need some time."

But Luna shook her head, grinning mischievously. "No way. Let's all watch a horror movie together. It'll be fun!"

So, they settled on the sofa: Luna in the middle, Alex on her left, Nick on her right. A giant bowl of popcorn sat on the table, untouched as the movie started. Alex slid his arm around Luna's shoulder, and she held his hand lovingly—but to Alex's irritation, she also grabbed Nick's hand at the same time.

The room was dark, the sound of the movie's eerie soundtrack filling the air. Alex's eyes narrowed at Nick, but Nick wasn't playing any games—he just sat quietly, enjoying both the movie and, secretly, the soft warmth of Luna's hand.

Then came a jump scare. Luna screamed and buried her face in Alex's chest. Alex smirked triumphantly, winking at Nick as if to say "See that? She's mine."

Nick simply looked away, forcing a small smile, pretending it didn't sting.

After two long hours, the credits rolled. Luna, still energetic, insisted, "You both are staying over tonight. No arguments."

Nick took the guest room, while Alex joined Luna in hers.

Inside, the night softened. They talked about silly things, about future plans, about everything and nothing. Slowly, Luna leaned against Alex's chest. The moment was delicate, fragile… perfect. Then, with a mischievous spark in her eyes, she kissed him. One kiss turned into another, deeper this time, until Luna whispered, "Maybe it's time…" and reached for his shirt buttons.

Just then—knock knock.

The door creaked open. Nick stood there, awkward as ever. "Uh… sorry, but… you wanted the black blanket, right? Well… it's, um… wet."

The scene froze. Luna jumped back, flustered. Alex stared at him in disbelief. Nick, realizing what he had interrupted, quickly looked away, his ears turning red.

"Don't worry," Luna muttered, rushing to grab another blanket.

Alex, trying to lighten the tension, smirked. "Wet blanket? Nick, did you… pee on it?"

Nick laughed nervously. "What? No! Come on, man, I'm not five."

The three of them ended up laughing, breaking the awkward silence. But beneath the laughter, Alex's headache pulsed again, darker this time.

The next morning, life returned to its routine. Alex left for work, Luna packed for her university, and Nick headed toward his academy.

But halfway down the road, Nick's day—and possibly his life—took a sharp, dreadful turn. A screech of tires. A crash. The world went silent.

Nick had met with an accident.
