Chapter 4 - The dungeon

The world twisted light wrapping around Lucan like a second skin. For a hearbeat, he lost all sense of up or down—and then he landed both feet planted in the grit of the new world called a dungeon.

He stood in a long, low corridor, its stone walls eaten with nothing but age. Everything was grey and silent, dust hanging thick in the air like chandeliers. The ceiling arched overhead, cracked with roots and old webbing which dangled like the ghosts of hand reaching down. A faint dry wind, stirred the ground, making the dust swirl in slow and lazy motion.

So this is a dungeon?

Awe plastered the face of Lucan as he just stared at the place he was in. He was half expecting monster to come jumping at him from the shadows like some fantasy, but there was nothing.

His eyes soon caught sight of a simple iron sword which layer on the floor in front of him flattened by the magnitude of time. But it was still serviceable.

Lucan eyes narrowed in curiosity, as h approached it, kneeling down, finger brushing away the grit and he lifted it. The hilt was cold, the blade was heavier than it looked and the balance rough but usable. He swung it once, reminiscing of his child hood days when he played sword with his brother.

A new system message appeared hovering in the gloom.

    WELCOME TO DUST LAIR

    Deaths Allowed: 3

Upon death, you will be ejected.

    Dungeon resets daily.

Three lives uh?

Lucan lips curled with satisfaction. If he failed, he could try again—failure was just another step towards mastery. He turned his head around, casting glances at the dungeon, each gaze a study of the dungeon. Faded carvings lined the walls: images of rats, serpents and something not quite familiar etched itself unto the wall. It looked like the work of an artist.

He gripped the old sword, feeling a fierce joy book in his chest. This was a place that wanted to be conquered, he was ready for it.

Then, his thoughts flickered to his Life lord system. He had been so preoccupied with entering the dungeon that he had forgotten he had a cheat system.

Silly me

With a small smile, he called for the Life lord system and soon enough it appeared in front of him, blazing with possibilities.

--------- { Life lord system } -----

Name: Lucan Farel

Age: 23

--------- { Status } ---------

Physical: Strength [8], Agility [11], Durability [8], Constitution [8]

Mental: Intelligence [12], luck [4]

——— ——

Every 30 minutes host gains one life point, which he can use to edit his life book

********

His eyes traced down to the small point there, the part which said the amount of life point he has.

Life points: 1

He smiled more as he called up his life book and with a flash of blue light, a book like page floating like the system panel blazed into view, its pages blank except for his name and basic stats.

Edit: [Agility]

He typed experimentally: Agility— beyond light speed.

The system crackled a harsh and negative sound as it turned red, seemingly rejecting it.

{ Insufficient life points: Edit denied }

Lucan grinned " So it doesn't just listen to my whims uh. I need to pay. Quite reasonable. }

He scrolled, and checked his speed: 11 and he tried again but this time more modestly.

Edit: [Agility]—increase speed.

A softer ding, then his agility jumped from 11 to 20. As soon as it landed, he felt it's effect.

His felt it at once, a lightness, a readiness in his leg. It felt awesome, it felt... supreme. He felt like he could run around an entire football stadium now with ease.

He let out a jump and he jumped far more higher than he had ever did. It felt ...incredible.

If a normal human stats could be put in numbers, then their speed stats would be at 10 max. A seasoned professional, someone who runs Olympic races would be around 13. And the speed of the fastest human alive would be 15. But now Lucan agility was at a jaw dropping 20. He could easily defeat those top professional in a race.

Now Lucan was fully invested in the system. He was fully in it!

The more points I get, the more edits I can put and the stronger I can become. I only recieved one point yet I am already this strong....A gulp of silava what will happen if I was to get more points.

The future...no everything seemed so bright now. With this ability, just imagine how much he could grow. One point in 30 minutes, that meant 48 points in 24 hours.

Insane!

Then suddenly—A faint skittering sound broke his focus. Lucan froze, sword now raised. Something moved at the corridor edge—a shadow against the gloom. Then it came into view: a rat, lean and pale, with eyes that reflected the smallest hint to light. Its tail was hairless and long, its fur patchy and it's movement were jerky and alert above its head, glowing faintly was its name.

Echo rat

Level 1

The creature sniffed the air and gave a low echoing squeak that seemed to bounce eerily down the hallway—squeak... squeak.... squeak — repeating itself long after the rats mouth had closed. Lucan heart beat faster. He gripped the sword tighterz watching the rat watch him.

Let the game begin
