Chapter 65 - CHAPTER 65 (S3)

"This van, an eight seater? Look, I've seen many and I mean many eight seaters, but this one is too big for that. Are you sure there aren't seats at the back that are tucked in?" Darren asked, looking over the size of the van.

"Come on, I'm sure if it was a ten seater I'd have known b—" Perry stopped her sentence, as Darren opened the trunk, and had a smirk on his face.

"What..?" Perry sighed walking over.

"Aren't those.. two seats I see, Perry? Or.. am I going crazy?" Darren smugly answered, leaning over, trying to pull them out.

"... it's not like I inspected the back of the van or anything, so how'd I know?" Perry crossed her arms, watching Darren struggle.

"Would it kill you to help me out a bit here?" Darren asked, trying to pull the seat up right with all the strength he had, yet to no avail.

"I mean, probably." she replied nonchalantly before shrugging.

"You're supposed to pull up, not down, mate." Eli said, standing behind Darren, leaning over his shoulder.

Darren jumped a little at Eli's voice, but pulled up, and fortunately, got the seat.. up right.

"See?" he said, his hands pocketed.

"I dibs the passenger seat!" Dave yelled, already running to the van.

"Who'll be driving?" Ruby asked, and before anyone else could reply, Eli had gotten into the driver's seat.

"Me. I'm drivin'. Buckle up before I start speedin' away."

With that, everyone got in, though… maybe not comfortably. At the very back was Axelle and Waylen; typical.

In front of them was Rexine, Maverick and Christian. Then lastly behind the front seats were Darren, Ruby and Perry.

As Eli started driving off, no one really knew how to bring it up. Eli was going 80kmph inside a 50kmph lane.

It wasn't a big deal, since, well, no humans were really on the roads, but the way he drove was concerning to everyone inside.

Eli swerved from side to side, almost crashing into a lamppost nearby. Now, all while going so fast? Ruby immediately spoke up.

"Alright, Eli, step the heck down. Not everyone was born for driving, and… let's just say, it shows." Ruby sighed, her eyes narrowed as while watching every swerve (towards death) Elijah made.

"And you say don't let me drive?! Hell— I'd do better with my eyes shut and my ears covered!" Perry complained, holding onto her seat for dear life, as Eli swerved in between bushes, street lights and bodies that were scattered everywhere.

"Elijah, you scum at driving. Give the wheel to someone else, would you? We're trying to live here!" Rexine yelled from the back, finally making Eli slow down a bit on the speed.

Yeah, no; That was only until he sped up again.. only to—

THUD.

Actually, Eli just crashed into a zombie.

"WHAT THE HELL, REDHEAD?? ARE YOU BLIND? DID YOU NOT SEE THE GODDAMN ZOMBIE— HECK, WERE YOU EVEN LOOKING AT THE ROAD?" Waylen snapped, standing up from his seat, holding onto the back of Rexine's seat.

"Bloody hell." was the first thing Eli muttered when the vehicle came to a stop after being crashed.

"Alright, that's it, who's driving next?" Darren asked, glancing at Perry for a split second.

"... I'll drive." Ruby volunteered, and struggled a bit as she hopped out of her seat, waiting for Eli to step out of the driver seat.

"Everyone ready…?" Ruby asked after she got in, and after Eli switched with her.

2:29AM

No one wanted to tell her; But, Ruby kept pressing on the breaks every 10 seconds. If she saw a butterfly, to a stop they'd come. A zombie nowhere near them? To a stop they'd come. Oh, what about a pretty cloud in the sky… a place she shouldn't be looking while driving? To a stop they'd come.

Perry ultimately sighed. There was no other way except to tell her directly.

"Look, Ruby…—"

"Stop the damn car! Can someone good at driving please take the wheel? Look I'm sorry but from what I've seen, you all suck at driving." Waylen snapped… again.

"Oh, if everyone else is so bad at driving, why don't you try, smarty pants?" Axelle replied, already done with Waylen.

"Really? Because I'd love that." Waylen replied.

"Fine.. you can take over." Ruby reluctantly agreed before abruptly stopping the van.

But… Waylen didn't ask to get out of his seat; instead, he tried to.. well, you could say go over the seats instead. That did not work out in his favour.

"Hey, dude.. What the hell are you—" Christian tried looking back to see what Waylens was trying to do, but Waylen had his hands pushing Christian's head away, trying to move seats.

At last.. Waylen fell over, in between the seats. He looked up at Christian and Maverick with an awkward smile. He got up easily, and tried going over the last row of seats before getting to the driver's seat.

"Oh sh—" Waylen tried to say, but fell back on his face, sliding down the back of the passenger seat.

"Uh ok… try to be a bit more civil here, would you?" Darren said, moving away from Waylen as he tried to pick himself up.

Finally, Waylen got into the driver's seat.

But.. Ruby was still waiting outside to get inside.

"Ruby, you can come inside now you know." Rexine said rolling down the window. But before she could, a zombie attacked her.

"Ruby!!" Perry yelled from isnide the van. Ruby struggled as the zombie tried to well.. eat her.

And it wasn't long before they heard.. the engines of a motorcycle rush in. Nathan.

Ruby grabbed a nearby scrap of metal, thankfully, pushing the zombie off of her.

But, the motorcycle was only getting closer.

At one point, it stopped right beside the van. Otherwise; right infront of Ruby.

Ruby immediately reacted. Except… she didn't fight it or even try to get back into the van.

Nicole. That's why.

"Nicole..?" Ruby muttered under her breath. that was it for her.

Nicole was behidn Nathan on the motorcycle... they managed to fit Ruby, behind Nicole. This was only worse for Ruby. Rexine, Perry and Christian immediately stepped out and rushed to her but the motorcycle sped off.

"What the… why didn't she fight it? Seriously? Doesn't she understand that—" Christian started before getting cut off.

"Isn't it obvious, shitty hair? She's head over heels for him; it's no secret." Perry interrupted, before walking back into her seat.

"Let's go. After them, Waylen, Now. You wanted to drive, right? Drive." Perry demanded.

After Christian and Rexine got back inside.. Waylen spent a few seconds trying to work out the mechanics, before starting to speed off.

"They went left here, Turn left." Perry said, pointing to the left.

"Seriously, I'm so done with bad drivers calling out other bad drivers." Christian rolled his eyes. Waylen sucked at driving too.
