"Bet you have a lot of questions, huh?" Axelle guessed, and correctly at that.
"Yep. . a lot." I replied, thinking of one of the decent questions I had in mind to ask.
"Why the hell do the zombies in this area seem so. . smart?"
Axelle just stood there, as well as Waylen.
"How would we know? We only arrived here a few hours ago, too." Waylen spoke up. Nicole, still helping bandage up my leg, spoke.
"It's only a matter of time before we have to move from here too, though."
Ruby sighed, sitting on the chair at Christians desk. She placed her arms on the back of the chair, facing us. Nicole had finished bandaging up my leg, getting up and throwing away the bloodied and the previously lazily bandaged bandages. I sighed, leaning back on the bed frame once again.
"Well. . any of you care to explain why the hell I was alone in a store with a bleeding leg?!" I raised my voice slightly, looking around at their faces. Ruby sighed, rocking back and forth on the chair. Nicole now, leaning against Christians desk, next to Ruby. Christian himself was leaning on the door. Axelle and Waylen sitting on the floor, legs crossed.
"Well. . long story." Ruby started. "Well after you fell asleep, WHILE we were being chased. . . Nathan and Emily crashed into a zombie because Nathan was too busy speeding. We really didn't care to check, since. . well, it could've been a trap, for all we know. Better safe than sorry, right? And, since we were in this area, Nicole said he 'knows a place' that we could stay and brought us here. It was supposed to be your house that we entered, but. . Nicole forgot which one, and entered Christians house instead. Although Christian and Nicole didn't enter the house, instead Nicole made Christian carry you into the store since we needed supplies. Water more specifically." Ruby explained. Everyone stayed quiet.
". . .but that doesn't explain why I was in an aisle inside the store. You could've just dropped me off in here?" I asked, my suspicion growing.
"That's the thing. He didn't want to. Yeah, that's it. so . . ." Ruby's voice trailed off, as Christian sighed and took it from there.
"When we entered the store, there were more zombies than anticipated. And you're damn heavy, so I almost tripped trying to run with you on my back. So-"
"So you left me inside an aisle and left?! Wow, great choice, bastard. Just say you want me dead already." I interrupted him. He scoffed, rolling his eyes.
"Done?" he asked, as if just dismissing my concerns. I huffed, looking away. "Like I was saying, since I couldn't run with you on my back, yes, I kept you sitting inside an aisle. Me and Nicole had to run from at least 15 zombies chasing after us. We ran out of the store, with no way back inside unless we wanted our brains as lunch. So, we went to get Ruby to help us. . and by then, the zombies had cleared up from the entrance of the store. And that's when we were trying to find you, after you woke up."
He finished, looking at me.
"Well, had you been there a second later, I would have been infected myself."
"Thank god- or not. . we weren't late, then." he commented, sarcastically.
I crossed my arms, sighing and glancing at him. I could tell the rest were just glancing between us, as if we were some entertainment show. Mostly Waylen and Axelle, though.
". . .did you guys at least get water?" Waylen spoke through the silence. Nicole sighed, shaking his head.
"no, we couldn't.. we'll have to go back in there," he answered. "Plus, we probably need food too, right?" he added.
"yeah.. I'm definitely starving." Ruby stated.
"me too.." I agreed.
"Then, back in there we have to go, I suppose." Christian said, before adding, "who's volunteering?" he asked.
It was silent. Everyone looked around the room, to see if anyone would volunteer. yeah, i get it. It was pretty risky, thus I'm not sure anyone would want to willingly get infected. I would go. . if i could.
"I'll.. go." Waylen stepped forward, volunteering hesitantly.
"I guess I will too." Axelle also volunteered.
3:17 PM.
As Christian, Waylen and Axelle got ready to go out, back into the store, Ruby, Nicole and I sat on Christians bed playing uno.
"Uno!" Ruby yelled, after placing down a card.
"Seriously?!? Another plus 4?! Just how many plus 4 cards did you get? All of them!? I wouldn't be surprised. ." Nicole said, as Ruby placed down her 3rd four plus card. In addition to the three 2 plus cards she had played on Nicole.
"Jeez. Thank god I'm not in Nicole's place. ." I muttered, loud enough so that they could hear me.
"I'll get back at you, make sure to sleep with one eye open." he spoke through gritted teeth, placing down five 9's, ending the colour at blue.
"Dang, you sure have it rough, buddy. . ." Waylen commented, standing behind Nicole looking at his 17 cards in hand.
"Anyway, we're off. . Let's hope we don't get our heads dismembered." he added, walking to the doorframe, behind Christian and Axelle.
Christian's pov:
Waylen and Axelle in front of me, we walked out of my house and towards the store. As we crossed the road, we made it to the entrance of the store. They're slow walkers for sure, and it's pissing me the heck off. But, I didn't want to make a scene, especially not out here. Waylen slowly opened the door, looking around then stepping inside. Axelle and I followed behind him. They walked into an aisle, I just tagged along behind them. We settled in a food aisle, taking the packaged foods as silently as possible, stuffing them into our bags. I could see Waylen sneak up behind Axelle, and push her into a passing zombie, but was still holding onto her so she didn't actually fall. Axelle covered her mouth, almost yelping. When the coast was clear, Axelle turned back to Waylen, seething with anger.
"Do you know who I am?! Jesus, Waylen." She tried keeping her voice down, but I'm not sure that was working very well.
"Poor thing, did you forget your own name?" he teased her, smirking with one of his hands in his pockets. Axelle just stared him down, grabbing the collar of his shirt, pulling him closer, making Waylen almost stumble forward and fall on herself.
I was about to interrupt, to warn them, but they were too busy fighting.
