"SHUT IT, Ruby. I don't want to hear anything from your annoying mouth." With that, Rexine left the apartment, carrying Maverick.
The door slammed shut. Everyone fell silent, especially Ruby. It was so silent that we could basically hear the zombies crowding the two that left, but did not dare open the door again..
"Wow.. she seriously didn't take it well." Christian pointed out.
"Yeah.." I replied. We all looked at Ruby, who obviously seemed to be the most impacted by this. I went closer and gave her a hug, but she kept still. She didn't cry though. She's tough, for sure..
All three of us stayed silent, as Ruby stayed silent looking at the ground.
Eventually, she sighed and crossed her arms. Then, she mumbled something unintelligible under her breath.
Rexine's pov:
I was out of the building. I ran out, carrying Maverick, barely making it in one piece. Shit. Zombies. Totally forgot..
I was so focused on this whole situation, that I hadn't realized Maverick staring straight at me, wide awake.
"..where are the others?" He mumbled quietly, probably still taking the effect of being sedated.
".. I'll explain later." I replied to him as I still walked away from the building.
I tried walking as fast as I could with Maverick in my arms, trying not to be noisy. There were tears formed in my eyes, but I kept walking forward. I walked to a nearby shop beneath a building and entered. Nothing seemed too out of the ordinary, so I went over and laid maverick on the counter.
"Can you stand?" I asked. Maverick looked at me and gave a thumbs up. He slid to the floor and stood up, but when he tried walking around, he stumbled and fell face flat on the floor.
"Ow.. my nose." he muttered. I sighed, walking over to him and helped him up on the counter again.
"Stay where you are, I'm coming." I told him, then left to the back of the store. I searched around the aisles and since it wasn't that big it wasn't hard to find what I was looking for.
"Aha! Got it.. a portable chair!" I exclaimed, walking back to the front of the shop and then to the counter. Maverick stared at me, a little dumbfounded expression.
"Seriously, how is this so convenient.. it doesn't even make sense." He commented. I didn't acknowledge it, instead started putting up the portable chair at the side. After I finished, I walked over to Maverick, helping him stand up properly. I then helped him sit on the chair. He sat down, relaxing himself on it.
"Ah, this is life.." he said smugly, leaning back on the chair.
"No, it's really not.." I replied. He rolled his eyes, as we both went silent.
"So.. if we both are going to settle here, why not tell me why you ran away?" He suggested, looking straight at me, a more serious voice and look. I knew that gaze, he was concerned for me. For the best he cares a lot, but the truth still hurts. I sighed, sitting myself on the counter, looking down at him.
"Basically while you were unconscious, some things happened with Ivy. The Ivy we had with us? She was disguised as one of the members of The organization. A red haired woman was under it, we still don't know her name. Another thing, the real Ivy... She's a part of The organization too. And I hate to admit it, but it's the truth. I saw it for myself.. I wasn't thinking straight so when I was confronted by the truth from the others, my way of coping was to run away, with the only family I had remaining. I didn't want to believe it, so I denied it. And most important of all, I hurt Ruby..." I explained, barely keeping my emotions and tears in check. Maverick gave me a sympathetic gaze, placing a hand on where he could reach.. which was my shin.
"Oh Rexine.." he mumbled to me, in a quiet voice. He exhaled, leaning back.
"It'll be fine.. we'll go through it together, alright?" He insisted. I nodded whatsoever and sighed.
"For now, let's get some rest, yeah?" He said, and I agreed.
After that, I hopped off the counter and made my way to an aisle. I looked back at Maverick, and he already looked like he was going to fall asleep, eyes closed and leaning back. I walked my way through the aisle, and saw a bat section before and went there I grabbed a wooden one and a few knives from the kitchen section. I also had duct tape, and so tape he knives onto the bat.
I swung it around, just to see it in action.
I smirked to myself, walking to the front of the shop. I placed it so it was leaning inside the counter, upside down. I then sat myself on the floor, next to Maverick.
I leaned my head back and relaxed. The last thing I remember in my vision was the van that was parked in front of the building, before I closed my eyes, slowly falling asleep..
7:19AM
I was forced to open my eyes as I felt the beaming sunlight on my face. I opened my eyes, slowly but surely adjusting to the light. I looked around, to my right and thankfully to see Maverick next to me, still sound asleep. Then to my left, nothing unusual, just a few zombies. I looked away.. but then back to my left. I noticed something, and almost panicked immediately. I turned to maverick, shaking him awake.
"Wake up, please wake up, Mave.." I muttered. Finally, he jolted awake. He looked at me with sleepy eyes and spoke.
"What is it..?" "The van. It's gone. They just left us here!.." I replied. He raised an eyebrow.
"Wait– weren't you the one who left THEM, first?" Maverick pointed out.
"Well yes, I'm aware. But I was actually going to go back and apologize! Now what do I do?" I exhaled sharply, standing up and stretching.
Maverick, who was watching my distress, stood up instantly towering me.. dang, he's built like a goddamn skyscraper. Anyway, he walked over to the glass window and looked outside without saying anything. Then he slowly walked towards the front door, opening it.. what was his guy thinking? There were a bunch of zombies outside, and he had no gear or protection..
