Chapter 28 - Chapter 27: “Why Is He Looking at Me Like That?”

Xu Yinyin was spiraling.

Lu Zeyan had been acting strange again.

Not cold. Not mad.

Just… too soft.

He had sent her breakfast that morning.

Then texted:

"Wear something nice tonight."

No explanation.

No meeting. No function. No threat.

Just that one sentence.

Yinyin blinked at her phone.

"Is this a trap?? Did he find out?? Am I being arrested in a dress??"

The Conspiracy in Her Head

She called her best friend on speaker.

"He's on to me, Xiaoxiao. I swear. He knows."

"Knows what?? That you love him or that you use his Wi-Fi to run international hacks?"

"YES."

She began panic-cleaning her laptop files.

Deleted the decoy virus she planted in case he snooped.

Reorganized her fake browser history: cat memes, skincare, nail tutorials.

"He's too calm. Too nice. That means he's preparing a PowerPoint presentation to confront me. Or divorce me. Or hand me over to Interpol."

Meanwhile… Lu Zeyan

He was just… planning a date.

A real one.

He'd been so busy. They both had.

And Yinyin had looked tired lately, even though she joked more than usual.

So he booked out the entire top floor of a rotating rooftop restaurant.

Private chef. Live jazz trio. Her favorite strawberry mousse.

Soft candlelight. A single red rose.

And when his assistant asked him, "Is this for a client?"

He said softly:

"No. This is for my wife. The one who changed my entire life."

That Night

She walked in wearing a stunning deep wine-red dress.

The second she saw him waiting by the candlelit table, all calm and handsome, her panic tripled.

"Oh no. This is the 'beautiful setup before the betrayal' scene in every movie."

Zeyan pulled out her chair.

"You're late."

"I WASN'T— I mean, traffic. Socks. I fought with a vending machine."

He raised a brow.

"...Right."

He poured her wine.

She sipped it like it might contain a truth serum.

The Meltdown

"Okay, just tell me!" she blurted suddenly, slamming the wine down.

He blinked. "Tell you what?"

"You know, don't you?! That I'm… that I'm…"

He leaned forward. "You're…?"

She panicked.

"Insane! That I'm insane! And annoying and possibly spying on your company, maybe! I mean—what even is love?!"

He paused.

Then burst out laughing.

She blinked.

"…Why are you laughing? Is this psychological warfare?"

The Truth

He reached across the table and took her hand.

"Yinyin. I'm not here to confront you.

I'm here because I miss you."

She froze.

"You're here every day," she whispered.

"Not like that," he said. "I mean the you I married.

The one who drives me mad and makes me smile in meetings and hacks the elevator for fun."

Pause.

"I don't care what you're hiding, Yinyin.

If you want to tell me, you will.

Until then, just… let me love you."

Her heart did a full system crash.

Later That Night

She snuggled into his side in the car ride home.

Whispered:

"I thought you were going to arrest me."

He smirked.

"Should I? Are you confessing?"

She laughed softly.

Then added, barely audible:

"No need. I already gave you all my passwords."
