Chapter 28 - CH 12: Echoes Of The Null

"To face your shadow, you must understand the shape of your light."

– Zara Vey

Scene 1: Timeline Delta-9 — Breach Begins

A peaceful timeline.

Mountains. Rivers. Blue skies.

A group of local Rangers patrol a city square, laughing, unaware.

Suddenly—

Reality tears open.

A thunderous rift. Screaming winds. Fragments of static and shadow spiral out.

Through the rift, five figures emerge.

Draped in corrupted armor. Once-Rangers, now Null echoes.

N-Kael — red eyes behind a cracked helmet, emanating raw vengeance.

Noxis — the White Void Ranger, his presence draining all color and hope.

Echo — a chaotic, glitched mimic of Ayla, giggling, whispering nonsense.

Dreadthorn — bulkier, more monstrous than Thorne ever was.

Null Mira — cold, calculating, moving like a specter.

And behind them floats their master:

Null Omega.

"This timeline is stable. Rip it out."

The Nulls attack.

The local Rangers stand no chance. One by one, they fall—deleted, not killed. Their morph signatures absorbed.

And in the sky, the rift pulses again.

Scene 2: Phantom Atlas — Ayla's Recovery

The medical bay is silent.

Ayla's broken Morpher lies on a tray beside her bed, its energy completely drained.

Her breathing is shallow. Her face pale.

Kael sits nearby, his helmet at his feet, staring at her.

"She should've dodged," he mutters. "She always dodges."

Mira enters quietly.

"You're not blaming her, are you?"

"I'm blaming me."

Kael's eyes burn.

"Omega was after me. She stepped in. That's on me."

Mira places a new diagnostic tool on Ayla's arm.

"She knew what she was doing. That's why she's still here. Because she made the choice."

"To almost die."

"To protect you."

Silence.

Then Ayla groans, eyes fluttering open. She squints, sees both of them.

"Wow. You guys look terrible. Is the world still ending?"

Kael almost laughs. Mira does.

Scene 3: Rin's Secret Journey — The Edge of the Void

Elsewhere aboard the Atlas…

Rin approaches Zara's projection chamber.

"I need a gate to the Inverted Axis."

Zara looks hesitant.

"That's where timelines go to decay."

"Omega said something. Called me unfinished. I need to know why."

Zara pauses. Then nods.

"Take the Whisper Shard. It'll protect your core identity. But only for a short time."

Cut to: The Edge of the Void

Rin steps through the portal and into the Inverted Axis, a ghost-dimension of memories twisted by oblivion.

He walks on floating shards of time. Voices echo—his voice, from other realities. Screams. Laughs. Faint music.

And then…

He sees him.

Noxis.

Identical to Rin, but drained of all light. His armor glows with inverted white—a void that devours.

"So. You came."

"Who are you?"

"You already know."

They clash.

A silent, graceful battle—blades of light and void colliding on falling fragments of broken timelines.

Rin is losing.

"You don't belong anywhere," Noxis hisses. "Not here. Not there. You're a fracture, Rin. A mistake."

But just before the final blow—

Zara's Whisper Shard activates.

A bright pulse.

Rin sees a memory—not his own.

A younger version of himself… with Elios, laughing, training… until the Grid fractures and Elios disappears.

Rin collapses, gasping.

"I knew him…"

Scene 4: Omega's Throne – The Null Council Assembles

Back in the Void Citadel…

Omega sits upon a throne made of shattered Morphers.

The Null Rangers kneel before him.

N-Kael: "This timeline fell too easily. We need stronger prey."

Null Mira: "The Fracture Team has grown bolder."

Echo: "Kael said something funny last time. Should I say it while I slice his memory again?"

Omega stands.

"They'll come."

He walks to the edge of the throne room, overlooking a sea of dying stars.

"And when they do, we won't just erase them."

His voice lowers, colder.

"We'll make them watch their pasts collapse. Over and over."

"They think sacrifice will save the Grid. Let's show them it only feeds the void."

Scene 5: Fracture Team Reunited — Preparing for War

Rin returns.

Ayla walks in slowly, bandaged, her spirit recharged.

Kael stands at the war table. Thorne crosses his arms.

Mira flicks up a holo-map: Timeline Delta-9 is collapsing.

"They're baiting us," Mira says. "It's too obvious."

"Let them," Kael replies. "They want us to come. So we hit hard and we take something back."

"What?"

Kael stares at the map.

"Hope."

Zara's projection flickers in.

"This may be our last mission as you are."

Everyone turns.

"The Nulls are becoming self-aware. Omega is nearing his goal. You either stop him now…"

She pauses.

"…or every choice you've ever made, in any reality, will be erased."

Silence.

Then Kael steps forward, placing his morpher on the table.

"Then let's be remembered."
