After spending the entire day and night lost in thought and drifting in and out of sleep, Lucas now stood before the gates of Forks High School.
"So… this is Forks High School," he murmured to himself, his eyes scanning the signboard and the surroundings.
"Is he a new student? He's so handsome…" a girl whispered to her friend, unable to take her eyes off him.
"Nice earrings," a boy muttered, his tone dripping with jealousy as his gaze lingered on Lucas's face.
Lucas ignored their comments and walk inside school gate, his steps measured and silent, radiating calm confidence. His eyes briefly flicked toward a silver Volvo parked nearby before moving on.
Just as he walked couple of steps a sudden rumble of an engine reached his ears. He turned his head toward the gates just as a rusty old truck rolled into the lot.
After parking, a girl stepped out. Lucas's gaze at her slightly. "So… that's Isabella Marie Swan. Same face as Kristen Stewart."He thought and turned away, continued toward the school office.
"Excuse me, ma'am," Lucas said politely to the woman at the desk sitting in a school office. "My name is Lucas Brightsun. I'm a new student. Could you give me my schedule?"
"Oh, welcome to Forks High School, Lucas," the teacher greeted him warmly, handing him a sheet. "And here's your schedule."
"Thank you, ma'am," Lucas replied with a small nod.
"No problem. Oh, and take this—" she handed him a folded sheet of paper—"a map of the school, so you can find your classes easily."
"Thanks again, ma'am," he said with a polite smile before stepping out.
With the map in hand, Lucas headed toward his first class—Biology.
When he opened the classroom door, the chatter inside immediately died. Every eye turned toward him, but he ignored the stares. His attention was drawn to one person in particular—a man equally handsome, watching him with a strange intensity, as though trying to peel back the layers of his mind.
"So, that must be Edward Cullen… is he trying to read me? "Lucas thought, walking past him and taking a seat at the last bench.
"Why can't I read his mind?" Edward's brow furrowed as he thought and glanced back at him.
Lucas noticed the scrutiny but dismissed it without a word because he knows he can't read his mind.
Edward's focus abruptly shifted toward the person who was now sitting beside him, and Lucas followed his gaze.
Seeing her, Lucas smirked faintly. "Thank god she showed up, or else he would've bored a hole through me with his eyes."He thought.
Bella turned her head slightly, her gaze catching his. "Another handsome one…" she thought, noticing his distinctive earrings.
Lucas gave her a small nod, which she returned politely.
Edward, watching the silent exchange, felt a twinge of jealousy and shot Lucas a sharp glare.
