Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Academy days 2

The class fell completely quiet. Eager to learn about magic as soon as possible.

Caelia and Hikaru paid attention, a needle drop could have been heard.

"Magic. Tell me, raise your hand and tell me what you think magic is."

A few raised their hand.

"You. What's your name?" She pointed at the raised hand.

"Jacob Satchel, ma'am." He answered.

"Satchel, tell me what is magic in your eyes?"

"Magic is a friend, it's a power that belongs to everybody and-" He was cut off.

"You're already wrong. Anyone else want to give a try?"

Many students who had their hand raised before put them back down.

She sighed. "You." She pointed to another student. "What's magic to you?"

Eyes turned to the student she pointed at. Whispers forming.

"Hey, isn't that one of the top scoring kids?"

"Yeah, I think is name was Ray Amaru-"

"Silence." Yousa yelled.

"U-um… I-I think magic… it's a component that makes up our life form, a chemical reaction caused by the mana in our body and the formula which makes us." He stammered, unconfidently.

"Ray, get it together." Whispered the girl beside him.

Hikaru turned his head, wanting a look at the man. This guy's about to embarrass himself.

He thought.

As he turned, the girl beside him caught his eye. She seemed, familiar.

Long, light blue hair, yellow, golden eyes, and a distinguishable beautiful face.

He was dazed.

"Creep." Caelia whispered.

He snapped out of it. "S- Shit, sorry."

The class giggled after Ray finished his sentence.

Even the teacher was amused, that was until she switched up. "Class, mister Ray here." She said amusingly, "Is correct." She then said in deadpan seriousness.

Some gasped. "Wow, guess he's not top scorer for nothing." Caelia whispered to Hikaru.

"You're right, he's pretty smart." He answered.

One single person clapped. "Why the hell are you clapping?!" The other side of the class yelled.

The clapper put his head down.

Yousa sighed. "Quiet in the classroom."

The classroom went dead silent.

She held up her hand with an item. "This is a mana crystal." She points inside the item.

"Once you pour your mana into this, it'll show the spells and skill tree you are most proficient in."

"Some of you have already done this earlier in your life. And you can use it again if you like."

"I've done this before." Hikaru mentioned.

Yousa starts handing out the devices.

One by one, everyone had a turn with magic display device, seeing their proficiency.

"Caelia, let's see what your magic is!" Hikaru smiled.

"Um… let's try?" She put her hands out. Soon, they trembled and item started glowing.

In the mana crystal, sparkles formed, sparkles that danced, danced around each other until.

They strike fire.

"Woah!" They both said in unison.

"Fire it is, then." Hikaru said. The school's bells then rang.

"Class is over. If you didn't get a try on the device, please let me know and we'll get you a try tomorrow."

Hikaru and Caelia left. "Man… I can't believe that's the last time we'll have to be in a classroom today." Hikaru yawned as he stretched.

"Mhm, the rest now is training and we'll repeat this everyday for the next four years." Caelia added.

"Sounds kind of depressing when you say it like that, Caelia." Hikaru muttered.

"Hey, I just noticed, but this school has mixed gender dorms, huh?" Caelia asked.

"Yeah, or else those guys wouldn't have been there to pick on you."

Caelia looked at him. "Hey, wanna come over to my room?"

Hikaru stumbled back, in shock. "What?! Isn't that a little sudden?!" He turns red.

"You pervert! What are you imagining?! I mean… normally. Like, let's hang out. You're my only friend right now."

That hit him. For someone who's his guardians were his only friends. He felt a depth of empathy in his heart.

"Oh. Yeah, no problem." That wiped the blush straight off his cheeks.

"Okay, good." She said, the faintest blush still on her cheek.

The tension broke, as Albert came.

"Hey, Hikaru." He said, ignoring Caelia.

"Hey, Albert. How's your class?" Hikaru asked.

"It was ordinary, I guess. Anyways, gotta go!" He said, pacing.

Albert ran pass them, toward the opposite way they came from.

"Guess he was in a hurry." Said Caelia.

"S-So, when am I coming over?" He stammered.

"In two hours? Yeah, two hours. Gives me time to set up."

"Okay. I'll be there, then."

With that, they parted ways, Caelia going to the A-class's dorm and Hikaru going to D's.

"Jeez, kind of feels embarrassing coming to my own dorm." He says, opening his door.

Hikaru took his shirt off, then jumped into his bed.

Rolling around, he drools. "This is gonna be my first time in a girl's room!"

He take a big whiff of his bed, then got up to go clean up his look.

"Probably should take a shower." He thought. As he changed.

After washing his hair and cleaning himself up, he was finally ready.

To visit Caelia.
