Chapter 3 - Understanding Magic

It is now evening, all is calm in the fortress., Aria is currently still sleeping, but suddenly, the door to Alianna's room is opened. Alianna seems to be exhausted; she immediately removes her black cloak, which she was wearing, and places it on a nearby coat rack. Afterwards, she starts to move toward Arias' crib to check on her, and on reaching her crib, she is confused why Aria is sleeping on one of her books. She gently moves her aside, being careful not to wake her up. On retrieving the book, she sees that several pages are covered with Arias' saliva. "What the hell is my book doing on your crib?" Alianna asks herself. She places the book on her table and presses a small button below her table, which calls for her maid. After a few moments, Angela enters and greets her lady, "Good evening, my lady, what is it that you require she continues. "Prepare my bath, I feel completely exhausted," Alianna says. "Very well, my lady, I will go and prepare your bath," says Angela. "Before you go, can you call for me, Liza?" Alianna says. "Very well, my lady," Angela says as she leaves the room. After a few moments, Liza enters the room and respectfully bows towards Lady Alianna. "Hello, Liza," Alianna starts the conversation. "I am well," Liza replies. "I wanted to ask you about this book. Why did you give it to Aria?" Alianna asks. "I did not give her any book, my lady," Liza replies. "Ohh, so you are trying to say that the book just magically moved toward Aria and she started reading it, do you take me for a fool, Liza?" Aliana continues. "Mistress, I am speaking the truth, please believe me." Says Liza. "Fine, I have ways of making you talk," Alianna says. She puts one of her hands into her breasts, removing a pendant similar to that worn by the guards. She asks the same question ", why did you give Aria the book?" the pendant glows and suddenly a skull mark on Liza head momentarily glows then disappears." What she wasn't electrocuted that means she is telling the truth, but then how did Aria get the book?" Alianna asks herself. "Fine, leave before I change my mind," Alianna says. Immediately, Liza leaves without any objections.

Soon, the head maid enters the room and informs Aliana that her bath is ready. Alianna leaves the room and prepares to go and take a her bath. During this entire time, it seems Aria had woken up after feeling someone lifting her and was pretending to sleep. "Holy fuck, I should be careful from now on, she nearly killed Liza for a mere book," she says to herself. "This could be a problem, no, wait, this may just be an opportunity to quickly gain info on my new abilities, if my mother see's I am able to use the same abilities as her perhaps she can teach me more about them. Well then If Alianna wants to know how I got the book, I will just have to show her." Aria continues. Aria starts to wait for her mother to return, and after around an hour, Aliana returns to her room seemingly refreshed wearing a loosely held towel. She goes to a nearby dressing mirror and begins to admire her seductive figure. Suddenly, Alianna begins to hear a faint noise coming from Aria's crib. As Alianna moves towards Arias' crib, she is shocked at the scene in front of her, and she slips and falls down, but surprisingly, her towel only slightly slides down, revealing a part of her cleavage. Alianna notices that Aria was trying her best to retrieve another book from the shelf using the spell Mage Hand. "Impossible, she hasn't even turned 1 month old and is able to utilize mana like a second-class spellcaster," says Alianna. As Aria places the retrieved book in her crib, Alianna comes closer to look at what she had picked from the shelf while holding her towel tightly so as not to fall. On picking up the book, she sees that Aria has picked a well, let's say interesting book, its title reads The Twelve Paths of Seduction by Graz'zt. Alianna laughs, saying, "You're not old enough to read this one." Aliana says as she places the book on a nearby table and picks Aria up happily, lightly throwing her up and down in blissful delight. "My little tiefling is so talented, just like her mother, to be able to manifest mana and utilize it in one day, what monstrous talent, I should probably apologize to Liza for the misunderstanding." Alianna says. After which she gently returns her to her crib.

"Good, I don't have to hide this ability, if I can fully master how to correctly use it, it may aid me in this gauntlet thing," Aria says to herself. Alianna goes to put on her nightgown and prepares to go to bed. Once she's ready, she comes to Arias' crib, picks her up, and takes her to her own bed. She then goes to a nearby shelf and picks up a book called Origins of Mana. Alianna then comes and lies next to Aria and starts to read the book. From the book, Aria learns that Magic is a rare ability of some individuals that enables them to manipulate the ambient energies of the world, such as mana, in order to produce desired effects. In the Feirun, she learnt that arcane magic is called "the Art," while divine magic is known as "the Power. "She learnt that Magic influences many aspects of the world, from enchanted items and transportation to shaping the landscape. It originates from raw mana, which is a powerful but dangerous force locked within matter which further simplified into the weave. The Weave, controlled by the goddess Mystra, is the main medium for channeling mana, while divine magic comes from specific deities. Throughout history, events like the creation of the Weave, Karsus's Folly, the Spellplague, and the present age have significantly impacted how magic functions. Different types of magic include arcane, divine, shadow, psionics, elemental, and high magic, each with its own sources, methods, and effects. As Alianna continued talking, she noticed Aria never seemed to lose interest, but rather her eyes grew with an insatiable hunger to learn more it was as if she understood all that Alianna was saying. It was now growing late, and all within the fortress had gone to rest. Suddenly, the head maid, Angela, entered the room, noticing Alianna happily reading a book to her baby. She felt a sense of growing joy, for she had never seen Alianna this happy ever since she was brought in as one of Bhaal's concubines. "My lady, you should rest, it is already very late," says Angela. Aliana looks at a nearby clock and notices it is nearly midnight. She picks up Aria and returns her to her crib, saying, "Sorry, little one, we will continue another time; it has gotten very late." After placing Aria in her crib, Alianna returns to her own bed to sleep while Angela prepares to leave for her bed chambers wishing her lady good night, she Momentarily poses looks at Aria for a few second's and mentally says " Perhaps you are not so bad, for a tiefling," The scene ends as she closes the door.
