Chapter 5 - Harold Bane

"A letter?" I asked, confused as to what it could possibly be about.

"Yes, Harold, the name is directed towards you." My wife replied, walking in with a rectangular envelope in her hand.

Sitting down on the couch, I opened it up and began to read the words confined within.

Dear Harold Bane,

I am pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to take part in an experiment. I am a psychologist who is very keen on my work. I have already been approved of it, and you are one of the five candidates that I have chosen. Rest assured; I will undoubtedly pay you handsomely for it as well. Up to fifteen million dollars, if I may add. Without a doubt, I am confident that you will accept my proposal. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and with your help, we can reshape the future for our benefits.

Yours sincerely, The Psychologist.

"What does it say, honey?" My wife asked whilst washing the dishes in the kitchen.

"It's about some experiment that I have been chosen for. They are also willing to pay a ridiculously huge amount."

"How much?"

"Up to 15 million dollars they said."

"What! Then you should definitely go. It will help the kids as well."

"Of course I am going! This is great!" I stood up, hugging my wife before kissing her softly on her lips. "Our lives are going to change."

Immediately, I began packing my luggage. I couldn't believe the opportunity that I had been granted. This was truly something miraculous. With such enthusiasm, I bid farewell to my family. Kissing my two daughters on their cheeks and foreheads, I gave them clear instructions on how to behave. Before departing, I gave my wife one last kiss displaying my love.

And then I was off to the train station. The location was placed in a separate miniscule note in the corner of the envelope-which was nearly impossible to find - giving strict instructions on what I was allowed to bring.

Three pieces of clothing and a photo of the ones you love.

The second instruction was a bit unusual, but I thought not much of it. Arriving at the train station, the atmosphere was very lively. People are hurrying off and on platforms. Mothers and fathers cheer their children farewell and others reuniting after being away so long. It was a beautiful sight to see. As I boarded the train, I felt a wave of excitement brush over me again. It had always been my dream to become a psychologist. And now I could be of help to one was an even greater feeling.

Thankfully, I had also been given a train ticket in the envelope. The psychologist seems to be such a great person. I can't wait any longer. As I made my way towards my seat, I noticed a woman next to it.

She had long brown hair, and her eyes were a cool blue colour. A freckle on the side of her lip and her expression was the softest anyone could ever see. She wore a long brown dress reaching down to her ankles and a fur coat on top.

"Excuse me ma'am, may I sit down?" I asked as politely as I could.

"Of course, be my guest." She replied, her voice as soft as her appearance.

"I'm Harold Bane." I said, reaching out my hand.

"Annabeth." She replied, taking my hand. Her hands are as soft as everything else about her.

"Where are you off to Annabeth?" I asked.

"I was invited to partake in an experiment, so I am off to the destination.

"Likewise." I replied, relieved that I was able to take part with someone like her.

"Wow, it is great to meet someone beforehand. It will make the rest of it easier. I look forward to working with you." She said enthusiastically.

I nodded back in reply. After a while of chatting about our personal lives, the train began to take off. Our new destination is awaiting us.

Onwards!
