Chapter 21 - Chapter 21

Sure, here's a descriptive rewrite of your scene for Dominion, keeping the emotional tension, subtle rivalry, and group dynamics clear and vivid:

---

The quiet path through the Davidson estate stretched beneath a canopy of whispering trees, their leaves rustling gently in the breeze. Tyler walked beside Sophia, but the silence between them weighed heavier than the humid air. He kept his gaze fixed ahead, deliberately avoiding her eyes. Whether it was tension or nerves, he wasn't sure all he knew was that he didn't enjoy walking beside her like this.

They were on their way to the council apartment. Mr. Jack had summoned them for something important, though the reason remained a mystery. Tyler found himself wishing the walk wasn't so long.

A sudden commotion broke the silence. A young boy's ball had bounced against a tree, and the child stood beneath it, frustrated and reaching. Tyler took a step forward to help, but before he could do anything, two boys appeared about his age.

The first one climbed the tree effortlessly, knocked the ball down, and tossed it back to the cheering child. "There you go," he muttered, brushing his hands off. His eyes flicked toward Sophia, and a wide grin spread across his face.

"Well, well," he said. "Look who we have here."

Sophia turned her head, a faint smile tugging at her lips. "Long time, Chucks," she said.

"You haven't been looking for me," Chucks replied, stepping closer. "Why don't you give me a hug?"

He stretched out his arms in invitation, his grin teasing. Tyler instinctively clenched his jaw. Something about the guy made his skin crawl.

Sophia shook her head. "No, thanks. I'm headed to the council apartment."

"What a coincidence." Chucks tapped his chest. "So am I."

The second guy leaner, with sharp features and a mischievous glint in his eye chimed in. "Who's the new kid?"

Sophia glanced at Tyler. "This is Tyler. Tyler, meet Chucks and Desmond."

Desmond gave Tyler a wolfish grin. "Welcome, Tyler."

Tyler gave a short nod but didn't speak. "I'm going now," he muttered, brushing past them.

Sophia trailed after him, but not alone. Chucks and Desmond fell in step too. Within seconds, Chucks jogged to Sophia's side, flashing Desmond a knowing wink as he did.

The council apartment was dimly lit, with shafts of fading sunlight slipping through the high, narrow windows. Dust motes danced lazily in the still air, and the scent of aged wood and old scrolls lingered in the room. A heavy silence hung over the place, broken only by the occasional creak of the floorboards as Mr. Jack paced before them.

Tyler stood stiffly, arms crossed, trying to focus but Chucks wouldn't stop talking. His voice grated in Tyler's ear like nails on stone, loud and boastful. He had talked the entire way there about how he met Sophia, how special she was, how back in high school he'd thought they'd end up together. Tyler regretted not coming alone. The guy was a walking noise machine.

Mr. Jack's voice finally cut through the clutter.

"There have been vampire movements reported in South Lake," he said, his tone grave. "Some locals say they've seen terrifying figures shadows in the woods, glowing eyes in the dark. Five people have gone missing."

The room grew colder with the words.

"I called you four here because you're the leaders in your packs," he continued. "I want you to work together tonight and eliminate whatever threat is out there."

Tyler's stomach twisted. Work together? Of all the wolves in the territory, it had to be Chucks? Could this day get any worse?

"Why do we have to?" Tyler asked, barely masking his frustration. "Our pack's been dealing with vampires regularly and without casualties. Why tonight?"

"I agree with Tyler," Sophia said, stepping forward. "We can handle this on our own."

Mr. Jack looked at them both with quiet patience. "I know," he said. "But this time might not be what you expect. Vampires come in different forms some with powers you've never encountered. South Lake may be hiding something far more dangerous. We lost Max and the boys just weeks ago. I don't want to lose any more of our children."

The room fell silent at the reminder.

"I agree, Mr. Jack," Chucks said, stepping forward with a confident grin. "I'd love to work with Sophia's pack."

Desmond, arms crossed and ever the shadow to Chucks' noise, gave a nod. "Same here."

Mr. Jack gave a solemn nod. "Then remember to work together. Look out for each other. You are all you have got, he said voice rising."

As the four of them stepped out of the council building, the fading evening light touched their faces. Chucks let out a loud laugh at his own joke, clearly unbothered by the weight of what lay ahead.

Tyler said nothing, but his thoughts were a storm.
