Chapter 7 - Coping

Jason tapped on his system panel, eager to check the rewards from his latest mission.

First off, $100,000 had already been transferred to his linked bank account.

"Alright," Jason muttered with a grin. "Let's make it rain with the simp money."

The second reward was a lottery spin. He tapped the bright 'SPIN' button, and the digital roulette wheel began to whirl. The glowing icons on the spinning wheel flashed by: Skill Manuals, Telepathy Scrolls, Future Insight Charms, Beauty Boost Pills, Body Enhancement Pills, and more.

Jason's heart raced. These are real? Like, actual supernatural stuff?

But when the wheel finally stopped, the pointer landed on "+5 Attribute Points."

Jason let out a breath. "Ah, I was hoping for a magic pill or something… but points work too."

He opened his

status panel

Physique: 11

Strength: 9

Agility: 11

Spirit: 12

He thought it over and decided to invest 2 points in Physique—health comes first. The remaining 3 points went to Strength, Agility, and Spirit.

A gentle warmth surged through his body, like soaking in sunlight. He felt lighter, more in tune with himself, but nothing drastic.

"Five points is just the start," he thought, cracking his knuckles. "At this rate, I'll be a freakin' superhero soon."

Just then, a new mission alert popped up on the system.

[Main Mission: First Use of Simp Cash]

Simp Fund Balance: $1,000,000

Objective: Spend your first $1,000,000 within 3 days, and increase favorability by +100 with any girl rated 8+ in beauty.

Reward: 2 lottery spins and an additional $100,000 unlocked

Failure Penalty: All remaining Simp Funds will be frozen for 30 days.

"$1 million in simp money…" Jason's eyes sparkled. It was already late at night, so he didn't rush the mission. Instead, he ordered an absurd amount of barbecue and beer to treat his roommates.

Back at Westlake University, Jason pushed open the dorm door, arms full of takeout. The smell of grilled ribs, wings, and brisket filled the room.

His roommates looked up—and froze.

Logan stared. "Bro… is that… are those Armani sneakers?"

Julian whistled. "Since when did you start using hair products? You look like you walked out of a GQ shoot."

Ty gasped. "Our boy Jason's glow-up is dangerous. I gotta step up my game."

Jason shrugged. "My family finally got the payout from that old property lawsuit. A few million dropped into the account. Figured I'd live a little."

Of course, he didn't mention the Rolex tucked away or the custom carbon-fiber e-bike being assembled right now.

Logan leaned forward. "Dude, Emma gonna come crawling back after she sees you now."

Jason chuckled, waving it off. "Nah. That chapter's over. I'm not chasing after anyone who left me behind. I've got better things to do—and better people to chill with."

He dropped the giant foil-wrapped bundles on the desk. "Come on, dig in. Brisket, wings, ribs… all on me."

The room erupted in cheers.

The three had always treated Jason like family, even when he had nothing. Treating them to a feast was the least he could do.

He knew the truth—if he acted too arrogant now, they might start resenting him. Not because they were bad people, but because envy is human nature. Sharing this moment smoothed over any potential awkwardness.

That's when Jason's phone buzzed.

A message from Emma, his ex.

"Jason, I'm willing to give you another chance. If you apologize for what happened earlier, I'll forgive you."

Jason stared at the screen, then laughed softly.

Delusional.

He deleted the message and blocked her.

Meanwhile, over in the girls' dorm, Emma sat smugly in front of her mirror.

"He should be messaging me by now…" she muttered.

Across the room, her friend Lily frowned. "Wait—you're telling me Jason's been dropping cash like that? Armani fits, e-bike, Rolex, Gucci backpack?"

Emma nodded confidently. "I saw it myself. Guess he lied about being broke all along. And honestly… he's hotter than I remembered."

Lily raised an eyebrow. "Jason's admission file said he was from rural Alabama. Maybe he hit the lottery or something?"

Emma blinked. "You know what… that actually makes sense."

"I mean," Lily continued, "the way he dressed, the way he acted—none of it screamed 'old money.' Looks like he just came into it."

Emma narrowed her eyes. "So what, this is all temporary? Just some poor kid with cash he doesn't know how to handle?"

"Exactly. This kind of 'revenge spending' never lasts," Lily said. "If your upbringing doesn't match your wealth, your money will find ways to disappear."

Emma scoffed. "Still, Josh's got the real power. Mansion, sports car, rich family. Jason's just a fluke."

"Oh, and by the way," Lily added, "I saw Megan shopping at the mall earlier. Looks like Jason just happened to run into her."

"Ugh, so she wasn't shopping with him?" Emma gritted her teeth. "He even had the nerve to act like she was into him!"

Jess chimed in. "Not to stir the pot, but… my boyfriend's in business. He's dealt with Josh's company before. Let's just say… Josh's not as loaded as he acts. Heard he's got some bad debt too."

Lily rolled her eyes. "Jess, come on. That sounds like jealousy."

Jess snapped back, "Why would I be jealous? I just think Emma deserves to know the kind of guy Josh really is."

Emma ignored them both. She stared at her phone, thinking.

Jason's just acting out. He'll come crawling back any minute… and I'll make him wait. He'll learn who's in control.

With that thought, she messaged Josh with a sweet emoji.

What she didn't realize was—Jason had already cut her off for good.
