Chapter 5 - WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS

CHAPTER 5

Two months have passed since the incident with the elemental giant. Poul had become one of the symbols of hope; his name was everywhere. Jay couldn't even go out properly to play with the other children anymore.

No one discovered the disappearance of the soldiers who invaded Luis's house. Even though he was the main suspect, he was released due to lack of evidence. Currently, Jay and Poul lived with Luis, Mary, and Kyrai, not for lack of money, but because they wanted to.

"Come on, sleepyhead, wake up, it's already morning," says Jay.

"Hmm, no, let me sleep a little more, Mom," Kyrai retorted.

"I'm not your mom, Kyrai, come on, wake up." Jay shakes her a little, but she doesn't wake up. "You leave me no choice." Jay lifted a part of the sheet, grabbed Kyrai's foot, and started tickling her.

Kyrai woke up startled. She slowly looked at Jay.

"What the hell, Jay, you know I don't like that," says Kyrai.

"Yeah, but I do." Kyrai looked and thought he was an idiot. "Come on, hurry up, go get ready for breakfast," says Jay.

Jay went down to eat his breakfast. Kyrai went to get ready. Jay headed to the kitchen where he found Luis, his father, and Mary. As always, he ate his breakfast calmly, reading his book.

"Jay, you really like to read," says Luis, surprised that he does this every day.

"Yes, I like to read a lot."

"I'm sure this has become an addiction."

"Jay, you don't like it, you're a reading addict!", says Poul.

Jay just makes a face at Poul.

"And am I wrong, you wretched kid?"

"No." Jay says, turning his head.

"Hurry and eat, or it'll get cold," says Mary with a smile.

To Jay, Mary was his second mother; he loves her very much and wants to make her proud. After all, his mother in this world died in front of him and in a terrible way. Jay made some friends, but one stood out, which was with a boy named Noah.

Kyrai came down with an ugly face. Jay looked at her and immediately left the table, after all, he had already eaten his food. When he passed her, he gave a light laugh.

She noticed Jay's light laugh and got a little irritated, but since she was in front of her parents, she let it go and went to have her breakfast.

Jay sat on the couch and began to read his book. While he was reading, his father went out to work. Even though he was considered a hero who was even recognized by the great human king, King Valerius Adelio, he was still just a soldier who would be promoted to captain of a troop in two days.

Poul went to work. Before leaving, he said goodbye to his friend, his friend's wife and daughter, and of course, a farewell hug to his precious treasure, his son. A warm hug from a father and son.

After a while, Jay went to his room to change — he was still in his pajamas — to go to the park to play with his friend and his friends. But something was still bothering him, and what was bothering him was his action on that fateful day. The day he killed a person.

"I destroyed a family because of that decision. This makes me afraid of becoming the same person as before..." Jay stopped walking to his room and laughed at himself. "No, I'm still the same person as before. I wouldn't change like that overnight. I can only change with the experiences the world will give me. How can I be so idiotic as to forget this? I'm a young adult. I couldn't forget this." He laughed at himself again and went back to walking to his room.

After getting dressed, he took his book and went to the park to play with the children.

When Poul arrived at the CT, he was well received as always and followed his usual routine, but with a new detail: the soldiers trained with him. He no longer trained alone, but with the best and strongest soldiers.

When the training was over, the soldiers looked at Poul.

"Our next captain is tough," said a very breathless soldier.

"It won't be long until your next promotion to royal knight," said the other, showing a lot of expectation about his colleague.

Poul gave a friendly laugh. "I won't reach that level anytime soon."

"Nah! For our elemental giant killer, that shouldn't be anything," said the other.

"All this just because I killed an elemental giant? 'Killer' is already too much. After all, I only killed a single elemental giant. What an exaggeration!" Poul thought affirmatively about what his colleagues were saying.

Meanwhile, Jay was at the park with the children. He was sitting reading along with his friend Noah. Jay, reading, liked a part, so he was going to show it to his friend, who was looking lost in thought at Kyrai. Jay, seeing that, made a face and laughed.

"I'm going to turn into a cupid of love. I'm going to make Kyrai fall in love with him."

"Noah!"

Noah's "love" face became serious when he heard Jay's voice.

"What's up, you... I mean, what's up, my friend?"

"Hey, you were going to call me a name, weren't you?!"

"No." Noah looked to the side where Kyrai was.

"Don't try to hide it, I know you're in love with my adorable sister."

Noah, upon hearing "sister" from Jay's mouth, his eyes widened in surprise.

"Sis... sister?!", said the poor boy, startled.

"She's my sister by heart and not by blood, you animal."

"Ah, now I understand."

"Anyway, my friend, let's get down to business." Jay leaned in and spoke softly into Noah's ear, proposing that they go to his house to talk about his plans to win over Kyrai. And so they went to his friend's house and talked about various plans. There were so many that night arrived.

Jay said goodbye to his friend and walked home. On the way, he turned left and then right. He began to realize that there was a person behind him, but he didn't care and continued on his way normally until he realized that this person was following him. Jay began to speed up his pace. The pursuer, with a hood and a mask covering his face, also sped up. Jay began to run and scream for help. The man began to run in Jay's direction, who tried to escape, but he couldn't, and the man grabbed his arm and pulled him into an alley, putting a cloth over his mouth, making Jay fall asleep slowly.

Jay woke up startled, seeing nothing. He only saw darkness.

"I only remember walking home, and..." Jay remembered the pursuer kidnapping him. "That bastard killed me. After all, it's all dark and I can't move."

A person approached and removed the cloth from Jay's face and said:

"Hello, how are you?" She spoke with a smile on her face, a smile of happiness.

"Where am I?" asked Jay to the woman with blue hair, bloodshot eyes, and who was tall.

"You're in my house."

"What do you want with me?" Jay asked, afraid of the woman's answer.

"What do I want?" She gave a dark laugh, and her smile became more psychopathic. "I want to sell you, isn't it obvious? After all, you're the son of a hero and on top of that, an elemental. So, you're very valuable."

Jay was scared by these words that came out of the mouth of the woman in front of him.

"We're going to send a letter to your family, who must be worried about you. What a pity." She put her hand on Jay's face. "I feel sorry for these people and for your father, after all, he's a hero who couldn't save his son."

This irritated Jay, who tried to attack her, but he was tied to the chair. With this frustrated attempt, the woman began to laugh at the boy.

"You're so pathetic. It must be so bad to be trapped in a child's body without you being able to do anything."

Jay turned as pale as snow when he heard those words. After all, how does she know he's a reincarnated? Is she one too?

"At this very moment, you must be asking yourself: 'how does she know I'm a reincarnated?' Right?" It seemed like she had read the boy's mind. "And the answer is very simple: your way of acting, boy, already gave away that you were a reincarnated."

"Does that mean I've been watched all this time?!"

"There's also the possibility that I'm a genius, isn't there?"

"Yes, there's that possibility, but your way of acting gave you away to me a long time ago." She turned and continued to say. "Your luck is really and incredibly low, boy."

She looked at the man next to her and said to him:

"Make him talk, that way we'll know how much he's worth." She spoke calmly. "I give you a deadline of 3 days to get any information from him, my dear Hombi."

"Alright, ma'am, I will make this poor boy talk." Hombi spoke with pity for the poor boy.

The woman left the room. Hombi grabbed a toolbox and went towards Jay.

"Are they going to torture me? No, they wouldn't be so crazy as to go that far, would they?!" Jay was afraid of what was to come.

The man came close to Jay, put the toolbox on the floor, and then put the cloth over Jay's face, who understood the situation.

"Boy, be sincere and tell the truth from now on, okay?" The man asked kindly to the poor boy. Hombi didn't want to do this to a child.

So, from the toolbox, he picked up a pair of pliers.

"Are you an elemental?" asked Hombi.

"I don't... know."

"I can't reveal too much information, after all, they want to sell me!"

So, Hombi, with no choice, placed the pliers on Jay's nails and slowly pulled out two of Jay's nails, who began to scream in pain.

"I warned you, boy, answer the questions sincerely."

Thus, three days passed in that hell. All of Jay's nails were pulled out, both from his fingers and his toes. After the nails, it was the turn of his fingers, which were pulled out one by one, until all his fingers were cut off. It wasn't over yet. Hombi used white phosphorus to burn Jay's back. And, after all that, that woman, whose name and the leader of this kidnapping was Saikopasu, had an incredible ability to heal and regenerate the whole body, even lost limbs. So, she would regenerate Jay and Jay's torture would begin again during these three days. And even so, he resisted giving away any important information. The only thing he gave was the confirmation of him being an elemental, but he didn't give away which element or his full name.

Jay had been missing for three days. On the second day, they had already started the search for him, for being the son of Hyou Poul, the hero who saved the city from disaster. Mary was worried about Jay, always looking for new information and updates about him. Luis, on the other hand, was participating in the case directly, looking for clues and going after suspects, but the kidnapping was very well done and executed, and there were minimal clues available, which made his case very difficult. Poul also participated in the case; he felt the taste of failure again.

Kyrai was the most affected; she was locked in her room most of the time and cried. She only came out to eat and go to the bathroom.

Mary was in the kitchen washing the dishes until someone knocked on the door. She went to open it, and it was the police with new information about the case. They came in, they were two uniformed police officers in their blue outfits with golden details, a very beautiful uniform. So, they sat at the table, and Mary did the same.

"Well, we have news about the boy's case, and it's good news: the case is progressing more and more," said the older police officer.

"Seriously?! That's great, I hope you find him soon, soon." Mary says with an expression of happiness, but it was clear that she was tired and exhausted. She continued to speak. "After all, we are all giving it our all, and my daughter, she was the most affected, but she is recovering little by little."

Kyrai's recovery was only advancing thanks to her mother, who was doing her best for her daughter to recover.

"And what's the news?" asked Mary.

"Well, we have two pieces of news that are good and progress the case, but one in particular will give you a lot of hope."

"Then tell me, sir, tell me now," says Mary desperately.

"Well, first, we found new clues, such as local residents who saw a man who was chasing the boy." The younger police officer put his hand in his pocket to take something out. When he took out a paper with a drawing of the pursuer — which was Hombi —, he showed it to Mary and continued talking. "The information we have was that he wore a hood, a blue coat, and a mask that covered his face, which made identification difficult. This can be in our favor, after all, if we identify any connection, we can put him on the suspect list."

"That's great! And the other news?"

"They sent us a letter, asking for a price for his rescue: 1 million lakqo. And they want the ransom in 3 weeks, otherwise, they will sell him as a slave," says the older soldier.

This made Mary worried. Mary was willing to pay this amount, after all, they had this money thanks to Poul, who was rich. Then they gave more information to Mary and, after a lot of talking, they left.

Mary was tempted to pay 1 million lakgo to free Jay from his suffering.

After a while, Luis came home tired. He sat on the couch, putting his hand on his face.

"How can you be so irresponsible as to let a child walk on the street alone, you piece of shit?" thought Luis.

"Honey, I received good news about Jay's case."

"Yes, the case is progressing well." Luis speaks with an aggressive tone.

"That's great, then let's talk to Poul to pay the amount they charged."

Luis looked at his wife, thought about saying something, but he gave up and just nodded. Then, he went to the room to rest.

Meanwhile, with Jay, who was becoming more and more emotionally and mentally broken, Hombi asked from behind him:

"Are you a pure or impure elemental?"

"I don't... know." Jay was running out of strength even to speak.

Hombi lit the stick that was on his back, it began to burn. Jay screamed in pain, he felt his flesh being burned, his skin melting.

That was becoming unbearable for Jay, who began to consider being sold and giving away a few more pieces of information.

The white phosphorus stick ran out. When it ran out, Saikopasu entered the room and healed Jay's entire body. Then, she called Hombi to her room. Without realizing it, Jay fell asleep after so much pain he felt.

In Saikopasu's room.

"Did he give away any more information, Hombi?"

"No, ma'am, he's resisting well, but he's starting to give in."

"Well, that's natural, but now..." She gives a malicious smile. "Now it's my turn, Hombi, you failed to get the information from him, so now it's my turn."

"Yes, ma'am."

Saikopasu got up and went towards the torture room.

While Jay was sleeping, he feels something cold touching his face. The cloth began to fall and he sees a blue being completely made of ice and with no face.

"Hello, young man," says the mysterious being.

Jay says nothing, just stares at the being.

"Well, I understand why you're scared."

"Who are you?" Jay, surprised and scared, asked.

"I am Roh, the ice spirit that is sealed in you and the source of your powers."

Jay became interested in Roh, after all, he was the spirit sealed in him and who would later grant him power.

"So I awakened my powers?"

"No, you haven't awakened your powers," affirmed Roh happily.

"Then why are you here?" Jay asked, confused.

"To give you some information about your power and about yourself." Roh replied with an evil smile.

"And what's the information?"

"First, you're an almost completely impure elemental, only 12.5% of your body is compatible with elemental power, and you're pretending to be calm now, aren't you, Gabriel?!"

"How do you know my name?"

"I'm sealed in you, I have all your memories, did you forget?"

Jay fell silent.

Roh sighed and spoke again. "Well, I hate this type of hypocritical person like you. I came here willingly to talk to you and look at the way a piece of trash like you is acting. At first, you said you weren't going to kill anyone and you even promised, and guess what? You broke that promise you made to your father. You're the same, you haven't changed at all, you haven't c-h-a-n-g-e-d at all. Reflect on what you're doing."

These words hurt Jay deeply.

"You're right, I haven't changed at all. I even broke the promise I made to my father. I really am..." Roh and Jay said at the same time. Jay looked up and only saw darkness. "Pathetic."

Upon pronouncing it at the same time, Jay is disconnected from Roh upon feeling a pain stronger than normal. He realized something when he woke up: he no longer felt his arm while he was screaming and agonizing in pain.

Saikopasu approached his ear and said. "Tell me, are you a pure or impure elemental?"

While he was screaming in pain, he heard the mysterious voice saying that he just had to endure a little more, but it was too much for him.

Without any response, she grabbed his foot and twisted it, breaking the boy's foot. She regenerated him so he wouldn't die. While she was healing him, Jay heard her moans of pleasure.

After regenerating Jay, she ran her hand over Jay's right hand, thus loosening what was holding Jay's hands. When he noticed the loosening, he saw a chance to escape.

Saikopasu approached Jay again, to his ear again. She took the cloth from Jay's eyes and spoke sensually in his ear. Jay, on the other hand, responded with a bite to the woman's neck, who fell to the ground agonizing in pain.

Before she could regenerate, Jay freed himself from the chair as quickly as possible, grabbed a knife from the toolbox, and plunged it into her head, thus killing her.

Jay felt relieved that the torment was over. The mysterious voice came back saying. "That's why I love you, every day I get even crazier for you." The voice spoke with a lot of love.

Jay opened the door and saw Hombi, who just ignored the boy leaving that place. He had a serious face, but decided to leave the boy alone. Jay, thus, left the house. At that exact moment, it began to snow.

He was walking, and while walking, he began to think.

"Why did I go through suffering? Am I paying for my sins? I killed one more person, but I did the right thing this time, she was a bad person. Sorry, Dad, I broke my promise again. I'm sorry, Runa, for me... me having been a terrible husband." Jay's thoughts were confused, he was very anxious.

Jay woke up in a hospital bed. Beside him was his father sleeping, and on the other side, Mary, who was trying to hold back tears of happiness. She hugged him in happiness.

"Sorry for not being able to protect you, Jay, I'm sorry." She said in tears.

Jay couldn't hold back the tears and started to cry.

Then he received several visitors, and then he was left alone, and a question wouldn't leave his mind.

"Who am I? Am I Jay or am I Gabriel? Jay, a child who is in constant danger, or the young adult Gabriel? Who am I really?" Suddenly, flashes of the last faces of the people he killed came to him.

Jay just makes a face at Poul.

"And am I wrong, you wretched kid?"
