Chapter 5: Raid of Dinosaurs
After speaking with the captain, Samy returned to the room and washed up. Later, everyone gathered in the dining hall.
The captain stood at the front.
"We don't have much money," he said. "So tonight, only one free meal per person. If you want more, you'll need to pay for it."
Everyone nodded in agreement and headed toward the restaurant—an old wooden building run by the guild.
Inside, it was warm and modest: fifteen wooden dining tables, each seating six. Lanterns hung from the ceiling beams.
To the left, a small bar; to the right, a kitchen.
Samy and Shinra sat at a table with the captain and three other guild members.
The captain sat directly across from Samy.
Samy stared at him.
The captain started to sweat.
"Hey!" Shinra said loudly. "Are you crazy? Staring like that? Just thank him and eat!"
Samy muttered under his breath, "If you knew what he did, you'd want to eat him alive."
"What?" Shinra blinked. "What'd you say?"
The captain cleared his throat loudly. "Ahem. Let's eat. And no talking while chewing."
"Yes, yes, Captain," Shinra said.
The atmosphere warmed again. People laughed, talked, shared their hopes for a fresh start in a new land. It almost felt peaceful…
But peace was never meant to last.
Suddenly—a low growl. A roar. Heat.
The ground trembled. A loud boom outside. People screamed.
Flames erupted through the walls like exploding spears of fire.
The restaurant burst into chaos.
A beam from the ceiling crashed to the floor. Smoke choked the air.
The restaurant owner shouted from the kitchen, "This way! Exit from the back!"
Some ran through the kitchen, but after a few tables, the fire was too thick. No one could pass.
"Follow me!" the captain shouted. He splashed water from his flask, trying to hold the fire back with mana. It barely helped—but it was enough.
One by one, they escaped.
No major injuries.
They survived.
But outside…
The village of Raisen Port was a nightmare.
Buildings burned. People screamed and scattered. Smoke filled the sky.
Then—they saw them.
A pack of mutant dinosaurs stormed through the streets. They looked like Alectrosaurus—three meters long, spiked tails, and two long, curved horns glowing red.
And then…
A shadow.
Huge.
A fireball burst from the sky. Winds roared.
A massive dragon flew out of the smoke—its scales dark green, with pale speckles and black tiger-like stripes down its back. Its eyes glowed crystal brown and blue, like layered glass.
Its wings spread wide as it circled the burning town, letting out a furious, guttural roar.
The villagers screamed. "Captain! Do something! You're A-Rank, right?! You can fight it!"
The captain froze, horrified.
Then Samy shouted, "No! Your job is to protect the people. Get them to safety!"
The captain blinked. "W-What?"
Samy snapped, "Move! We'll make it to the guild. Let the guild master deal with that thing."
The captain swallowed hard. "Y-Yes! Everyone, follow me!"
They ran.
As they did, more beasts arrived—dragonlings, tearing into buildings and civilians.
The captain pushed through, guiding the survivors. Finally, they reached the guild gates—only to find a crowd of panicked villagers already there, screaming for help.
"Where's the guild master?! Let us in!"
The captain forced his way through. "Make way! I'm a guild member!"
That word—guild—made the entire crowd go silent.
Everyone turned to him.
Samy and Shinra blended into the crowd, not wanting to be seen with the captain now.
The crowd parted.
The captain walked into the guild alone.
Inside, he rushed to a guild officer. "Where's the guild master?!"
"Out on a mission," the officer said, pale. "He's not here."
"What?! Then give me access to the SS-class armor and weapons!"
"You're not authorized. You're only B-Rank Class 1. You're entitled to S-rank armor and one Class A sword—nothing higher."
The captain clenched his fists. Then sighed.
"Fine. I'll take what I can get."
Minutes later, he emerged from the guild in full armor—polished silver S-rank plate with a glowing blue edge. A Class A longsword rested across his back.
The villagers cheered.
"Captain!"
"You can do it!"
"Save us!"
He walked forward, sword raised—into the smoke.
He vanished.
Silence.....
A minute later—crash.
The captain's body flew out o
f the smoke and hit the ground hard. His armor was dented.
His eyes were half-shut. Blood trickled from his mouth.
He groaned once—and passed out.
The crowd gasped.
The dinosaurs crept forward, snarling.
Suddenly—a pulse.
A deep, vibrating hum echoed across the sky, like the air itself was trembling.
Everyone looked up..
The dragon shrieked in pain.
Then—it fell.
The massive beast plummeted like a meteor from the sky, crashing into the burning ruins of Raisen Port.
The ground shook.
The flames blew outward.
And everything went still.
