Chapter 12 - First Quests [1]

"Morning Dad, I'll be on my way now. Food is already prepared, I covered them so you and Mira can eat without me. I bought my own meals so don't worry about me skipping." Zhenyel said softly as she passed by the kitchen.

She walked over to her father and gave him a quick kiss on the forehead while he was reading some newspaper, coffee mug in one hand.

"Alright. Be careful and stay safe. Don't be—" Her dad responded while he turned to her, tearing his eyes away from his newspaper.

"Don't be reckless and move with caution, remember your training and never slack on training." Zhenyel says as she gently cuts him off by giving him a piece of pandesal, placing it on a plate in front of him.

Then she rushed out of the house, skipping on her footwork and greeting everyone she passed by, acquaintances and friends.

When she arrived at the Guild, she immediately went up to the front desk, then she asked for the Guild's mechanics and system.

"Yes. As you already know, there're five official ranks in the Guild: Novice, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum." The lady said as she laid out five types of card corresponding to the ranks.

"Each of the ranks have 3 stages—stage I being the lowest and stage III is the highest. And you, are on the nonstage rank." The lady continued while she showed three more similar looking cards for each rank.

The stage I - III have a number carved behind the card itself, the minerals used were the same and how it was colored.

"Now about accepting quests, you can do only 3 quests a day and carry 1-2 quests with you, depending on the rank of the quest and the content." The lady explained as she held out modern scroll parchment for Zhenyel.

Timeskip…

Zhenyel was venturing inside a thick forest just outside the city. She was holding a modern scroll parchment, carrying her first quest since joining the Adventurers Guild yesterday.

She held her signature weapon, a swordstaff. She roamed her eyes around, flickering her eyes to the quest parchments.

With a hawk-like gaze, she saw the bouncy figure of the slimes, their fluid body jiggling and rippling with every hop.

"Alright… Subjugation time." Zhenyel murmured quietly as she creeped towards the slimes, following the three of them as they wandered to their territory.

She watched their translucent bodies ripple while they jumped around their habitat, melting herbs inside their blob-like innards before shaking tremendously.

After a few minutes of observing, Zhenyel made her move.

She darted out of her hiding spot and swung her swordstaff at the nearest group of slimes, using the sharp edge of the blade to easily slice through their water-like body and destroy their eyes that served as their core.

Shing! Plop!

Then she threw her weapon in the air to kill the ones that tried to jump on her, kicking the other edge of the swordstaff and killing one more.

She sprinted towards the gathering slime, grabbing her weapon that was stuck in the dirt and crouched, swinging her blade to the crowding slime and destroying their possible plan.

Blob blob!

Zhenyel ran to the deepest part of their small habitat and used the staff part in wrecking the coop before she turned to the rest of the slimes, narrowing her eyes when they began gathering again.

"Tsk… How troublesome…" She murmured exasperatedly and cracked her neck, rushing over to the tower of slimes and quickly slashed the middle, twisting her weapon to the opposite direction and slicing upward.

With a trained barrage of attacks, Zhenyel successfully eliminated the slimes, glancing at the ones that flinched and scurrying away.

So without wasting any time, she ran to them and destroyed their core with one swing of her weapon.

Soon, she was able to complete the first quest with little trouble. The subjugation wasn't that taxing, it gave her a decent rate of training alternative if anything.

Once she was rested, she began gathering the dropped slime secretions. She gathered them in a big plastic bag, making sure she didn't miss any.

Zhenyel made another round of patrolling around the area, picking up everything. At the very entrance, she picked up a small translucent orb. She examined it before deciding it's not harmful, taking it with her in her next quest.

She wrapped the sharp blade of her weapon in a thick bandage-like cloth as she tightened it to make sure it won't accidentally loosen with her excessive steps, jumping over fallen tree trunks and crossing streams.

With the first quest of slime subjugation done, she wandered around the forest on a lookout for the healef herb, a common herb that can be found mostly in forests.

Zhenyel studied a day before heading to the forest to complete her quests, she stayed late in the Adventurers Guild library to gather intel and knowledge for precautions.

She followed trails of slime mucus knowing they'll lead her to a patch of the herb, tracking the sticky fluid while being careful of her surroundings.

And just as she expected, a lone slime was munching away with a healef herb. It was already halfway in finishing the plant when she stalked to it, ignoring it and gathering what she came for.

She brought out another bag as big as the previous one in her back, gently plucking out the healef herb and sorting it in the bag with a watchful touch.
