After passing through a forest path, Zack couldn't help but sigh.
He saw the distant beach, the lush Ancient Forest, and many Aptonoth on the beach.
These Aptonoth gathered in groups of three or five with long hammer-like tails.
Ignoring the research commission leader waving at him, Zack ran straight towards a drinking Aptonoth in the distance.
"I'll use you as practice!"
Zack was a little excited as he looked at the Aptonoth.
After all, this was his first real hunt. Before, he had only practiced on training dummies.
As Zack approached, the drinking Aptonoth didn't seem to notice the danger.
From the information he had seen previously about Monster Hunter: World, Zack knew that Aptonoth didn't attack first. They were gentle creatures.
Clearly, the meaning of these creatures was to let players practice.
Looking at the Aptonoth in front of him, Zack swung down his great sword and charged it. A number appeared, and the Aptonoth cried out in pain, using its hammer tail to fight back and trying to run away.
The other nearby Aptonoth ran away in fear.
Even though he was hit by the Aptonoth's tail, the super armor from charging meant the hunter didn't even flinch, and the damage was minimal.
The next strong charge swing came down, and the Aptonoth cried out and died.
"As expected, the great sword is the real god! I haven't even used my strength, and you're already down!"
Zack was excited.
The Aptonoth in front of him was about as big as two oxen.
But he didn't expect it to be so weak. The great sword's damage was insane!
Even though he knew that this monster was for players to test their weapons, the kind that wouldn't fight back or complain,
Zack still felt a surge of excitement.
Especially with the great sword, the damage was beyond his imagination.
It only took two or three swings to take down the Aptonoth.
Every strike, the sound effects and feedback made it feel like the great sword was really cutting into flesh.
It was so satisfying.
As for the wounds, Monster Hunter: World didn't really show much gore.
Even though it was a hunting game, having players hack monsters into bloody pieces, and then dismember them, would be too much.
So, there were some injuries during the hunt to increase the player's immersion.
But it didn't strive for realism.
Plus, there was a damage system in the game, where players could see the damage they did.
This system was turned on by default, though you could turn it off to increase immersion.
The reason it was on by default was to let players become more familiar with the game.
Because Monster Hunter: World had different monster parts with different weaknesses.
Having the damage numbers would let players understand the differences better.
Of course, that wasn't really useful for most hunters right now.
So what if you know the weakness?
You might not be able to hit it anyway.
You'll still be hitting the feet and back.
Every veteran hunter started as a foot-hitting and back-scratching expert.
As for monster parts and weaknesses?
No idea!
One word: attack first!
After a brief moment of excitement, Zack sheathed his great sword and collected the loot.
He took out a whetstone and sharpened his great sword to restore its sharpness.
Even though he had taken down his first hunt,
After a brief moment of excitement, Zack quickly calmed down.
He knew that the Aptonoth was just for players to practice on.
There was basically no way to lose.
In that case, there would be no sense of accomplishment.
Like in Dark Souls, when you beat the Iudex Gundyr boss, the sense of accomplishment was huge, mainly because he knew that boss was a big challenge for him at the time.
And he had to work hard to hone his skills to beat that boss.
Or in some RPG games, if you didn't have enough levels or stats, you had to grind and craft equipment to beat the boss, which also brought a sense of accomplishment.
But now he had taken down an Aptonoth that didn't fight back or complain, and was only a little stronger than a training dummy. If that gave you a sense of accomplishment, then no one could help you.
So, right now, Zack just felt like he had made the right choice of weapon.
The great sword was so strong.
Charging gave you super armor, and the attack was huge.
No wonder it was the main hunter's weapon in the trailer.
Like the three long sword users at the end of the trailer, they looked like background characters.
"It's just that the Aptonoth is a little too weak!"
Carrying his great sword, he didn't immediately follow the green scout flies to the research commission leader to complete the main quest. After all, the 50 minutes seemed like a lot of time.
Carrying the great sword on his back, Zack found and killed two more Aptonoth.
He wandered around the outer part of the Ancient Forest and found some interesting things.
There were many interactive things on the game's map.
Fruits and food could be picked, and bugs and animals on the ground could be caught.
He had just used his net to catch a gray Rabbitdragon.
After wandering around for a while, Zack finally followed the green scout flies through a narrow path to the quest location: the Jagras' Den.
As soon as he poked his head out, Zack saw a group of small Jagras, along with some bigger ones.
"So many!"
Seeing so many Jagras, Zack was a little nervous.
That was a side effect of playing Dark Souls.
In Dark Souls, the scariest thing wasn't seeing a boss, it was seeing a bunch of small mobs.
But when Zack started fighting, he realized that he had worried too much.
"My health bar isn't photoshopped! It's so strong!"
Used to the fragile health bar in Dark Souls, Zack was excited when he saw how little damage the small Jagras did to his health bar in Monster Hunter: World.
What did that mean? It meant that Monster Hunter: World wasn't a difficult game like Dark Souls!
Next, Zack swung his great sword at the Jagras, which proved the point even further.
One charged swing sent the Jagras flying, and two more swings finished it off.
The monsters did no damage to him, and he took them down in a few hits. He was basically a boss!
Plus, there were things in the cave that looked like fireflies. Interacting with them was like throwing a flash bomb, blinding the Jagras.
Then he could just charge with the great sword and one-shot them.
And the Palico was helping him too! Invincible!
He had never felt so good.
This game is so easy!
It's a hack-and-slash game!
