MHGA Chapter 210 – Seriously, Most Guys Are Clueless About Love, Dammit!
"Damn it…!"
The Black paramedic who had just been kicked by Lucy clutched her bleeding nose and glared furiously in the direction David had fled.
But the next moment—
Thud—!
Something landed hard on the roof of the ambulance.
"What the he—"
She didn't even have time to finish before a massive Long Sword pierced clean through the top of the ambulance and sliced it open with one violent sweep.
The overwhelming force nearly cleaved the entire vehicle in two.
"So it's you. The one tied up with the Scavs."
A hand reached down through the rift in the roof and grabbed the terrified paramedic by the collar, yanking her up onto the rooftop.
Atop the speeding ambulance, under the neon glow, she finally saw the face of the monster before her.
An East Asian man clad in armor so savage it looked inhuman, wielding a Long Sword taller than most people, effortlessly holding her up with one hand.
"What a coincidence."
Kairo Retsu looked toward the vanishing silhouettes of David and Lucy with a savage grin.
"Tracked you down using intel, and look what I stumbled onto…"
"This is exactly what I wanted! Gotta show this to Kazuma later!" Kairo grinned from ear to ear, then turned his head back toward the paramedic in his grip.
"As for you… You're the one working with the Scavs, aren't you?"
"Right then! You're coming with me—for a nice little public display!"
The paramedic's terrified face froze as a grappling hook shot from Kairo's left-arm launcher, anchoring to a streetlight on a nearby overpass. In one swift motion, he swung away from the ambulance, dragging her with him.
"I've handled things over here. Also—" Kairo spoke into the Gathering Channel.
"I just saw David and Lucy! Ahh, young love…"
———
At that moment, David had zero interest in the Gathering Channel, which had exploded with chatter after Kairo's message.
His entire vision was filled with the girl with soft rainbow hair in front of him.
His entire mind, filled with only one thought—
"UURRGGHHHH—"
David leaned over the gurney and vomited onto the street—
A glorious technicolor arc launched from a rapidly rolling stretcher.
"Oi! Dumb rookie!"
Lucy smacked David on the back.
"How long have you been using your Sandevistan? No suppressants, ran it for that long… You're seriously a freak."
"I'm not a freak," David said while retching.
"I just… really need this right now."
"Because I've finally got something I want to do!"
David yelled into the rushing wind as the stretcher flew down the road:
"I've got something I want to do!!"
"What the hell are you shouting for?!" Lucy glared at him.
"Don't tell me your grand ambition is to install some chrome, hit on girls on trains, and fall for me?"
"..."
David fell silent.
"…No way that actually hit the mark, right?" Lucy stared at him, then slammed on the brakes, halting the gurney in place.
"You really are a dumb rookie… Alright, you've got my name now. Get lost. Stop hovering around, kid."
She jumped off the stretcher, waved dismissively with her back to him, and started walking away—leaving David torn.
But more than that—David was confused.
Lucy should've noticed that the cyberware on his back was the one Maine and Gloria had ordered.
Why wasn't she contacting Maine?
Why was she just walking away?
"W-Wait!"
David instinctively activated his Sandevistan and blinked behind her, grabbing her wrist.
"If I want to see you again… how do I do that?"
"Oi! Are you nuts?!"
Lucy spun around, yanked her arm free, and grabbed David's face with both hands, staring straight into his eyes.
"You just got off that stretcher and you're already using your Sandevistan again?!"
"I'm not babysitting a cyberpsycho!"
Her voice burned with a faint fury.
"Especially not some spoiled brat from Arasaka Academy who dropped out on a whim!"
"I… I'm not…"
David stared blankly as Lucy let him go and disappeared from sight.
He thought they were getting along just fine—so why did it turn out like this…?
"Yo, David."
As David stood under the overpass, dazed and watching Lucy's retreating back, an arm wrapped around his shoulders.
It was Kairo Retsu, fresh from dealing with the Scav paramedic and arriving just in time for the aftermath.
"What's with the long face? You just met Lucy, right? Shouldn't you be thrilled?" Kairo raised an eyebrow.
"Guildmaster… I messed up."
David looked pained as he spoke.
"None of it went how I imagined."
"With that brain of yours? You'd be the kind of guy playing a chess match where everyone else is in the endgame and you're still fiddling with pawns." Kairo glanced at him in disgust.
"You realize your IQ's taken a nosedive, right?"
"C'mon, spill it. What happened?"
Kairo slung his arm around David's shoulder.
"Let your beloved Guildmaster of the Heart help you sort out your love life."
———
About thirty minutes later, at a street-side diner, David had finished telling Kairo everything that happened with Lucy.
"Guildmaster… Why didn't Lucy take me to see Maine after seeing my cyberware?" David asked, confused.
"Was I too pushy? Did I come off like some creep?"
"..."
Kairo facepalmed.
This basically confirmed it.
Lucy knew David was carrying Maine's pre-ordered chrome—and still let him go.
"You're a lucky dumbass." Kairo sighed.
"How the hell did a clueless kid like you land a cyberpunk girlfriend?"
"But what now? What do I do about Maine and his crew?" David scratched his head.
"They probably have no clue who I even am…"
"That one's easy."
Kairo pulled out a business card.
"Told you—open-world, open choices. I'll just take you to meet Maine myself."
