Chapter 10 - C RANK MISSIONS

On the way Raijin opens the mission scroll and went through the details of the mission. A small village on the outskirts of the Land of Fire has been having trouble with a mischievous group of wild tanuki (raccoon dogs) that have been sneaking into their crops at night and causing damage. The villagers need a shinobi to investigate, find where the tanuki are coming from, and find a way to stop the damage without harming the animals, as they're considered part of the local ecosystem.

The mission would require him to use basic tracking skills, stealth, and maybe some creative thinking to solve the problem peacefully. Along the way, he will enjoy the scenery, and how to handle situations without unnecessary violence perfect for first C-rank mission that's low risk but still teaches something valuable.

On arrival, Raijin first met the village elder, who explains the situation in details and showed him the damage: trampled crops, overturned baskets, and scattered food stores. The villagers are worried not just about their harvest but about upsetting the balance of nature if the tanuki were harmed.

He started by tracking the tanuki at dusk, using his senses and basic tracking techniques as tools to follow footprints and disturbed foliage. He found out that the tanuki have a den in a nearby forest, where a natural food shortage has pushed them closer to the village fields.

Instead of attacking the tanukis head on he decides to use false surrounding genjutsu to subtly steer the tanukis to an already premade non-lethal trap and captured them then he took them a long distance away and release them whether they would die of starving or will be hunted by predator he did not care.

After successfully completing the mission means he went to the village elder to inform him. The villagers' crops are safe, the tanuki remain unharmed thanked him and bid him farewell. It was a simple mission from which he learned that it was no different than a D rank but was a C rank one only because it was outside the safety of village.

After returning to the village and submitting the mission scroll, he took his payment of 10000 ryo and thought about taking second one for the next day but found out that their must be a week of gap between every C rank mission but he was free to take D rank ones.

ONE WEEK LATER

Second C rank mission was about a travelling merchant caravan plans to pass through a forest known for bandit activity. The merchant requests a mission to escort the caravan safely to the next town. The mission sounded simple: protect the wagons, keep an eye out for trouble, and ensure everyone arrives unharmed. This mission helps the genin practice guarding VIPs, managing threats, and making split-second decisions—all while operating under low-stress conditions.

As the Raijin sets out with the caravan, he quickly realised that the forest is thicker and quieter than expected. Along the way, he stayed alert for signs of ambush footprints, broken branches, or suspicious shadows. If bandits will strike, it will be a test of his quick thinking and reaction to defend the caravan without escalating things into a full-blown battle. If there were a large number of bandits maybe he would have to use distractions.

The tension grows as subtle signs of the bandits become clear as the caravan passed by an abandoned campfire, a snapped twig, or distant rustling. The merchant nervously looks to the young ninja for protection. When the bandits finally appear the forest suddenly erupts with movement as bandits spring from the shadows, their faces masked and weapons drawn. It's not an all-out assault but quick hit-and-run tactics.

Raijin instantly used smoke bombs to confuse them and reduce their visibility. Smoke bombs explode, filling the clearing with thick gray fog the bandits flail blindly, giving the him the chance to attack the bandits directly in order to protect the merchants. While merchants were focused on guarding the wagons and helping the horses to stay calm. He had to through shuriken and kunai perfectly to prevent any bandit's attack to reach the merchants.

One bandit charge toward the merchant's wagon, swinging a heavy club. Raijin with eyes sharp took half a step forward and with a flick of the wrist, a shuriken whistles through the air, striking the bandit's weapon hand and forcing him to drop the club. Then instantly used his technique and darts in and bury a kunai deep in the bandit's throat & then next instant with a swift kunai throw killed another one.

Meanwhile, more bandits rush the rear of the caravan. Raijin heart pounding in adrenaline vanished and struck one in the face, one in the heart, one in the throat causing them to die on the spot due to severe blunt force trauma then again summons a burst of chakra to fuel a quick series of taijutsu strikes and knocking next two attackers back. The clash is quick and tense each move deliberate, no wasted energy.

As the smoke clears, all the bandits lay dead due to Raijin's instant action the bandit attack failed, leaving the merchants un injured and goods of caravan unscathed. The fight wasn't flashy or drawn out just sharp, efficient, and smart.

After the attack Raijin collected all the bandit's body and searched them for valuables and found a total of 100000 ryo and then with the use of Katon: Endan burned the body and then continued the mission. Fortunately, he did not find any more trouble along the way and success fully completed the mission.

After returning to the village and submitting the mission report he found out that if there was a ninja among the bandits even if a low ranked one then the mission rank would be upgraded to a B rank one.
