Chapter 5 - JUTSUS & MISSION RESTRICTIONS

Tadashi was shocked by hearing that Raijin would choose to become independent genin despite knowing that the path on it is extremely difficult but as this was his own choice he didn't interfere on it by forcing him to choose the other and replied "There is nothing else required other than receiving your forehead protector from me now come and take it."

Raijin got up from his sit and went to receive the forehead protector. After he took it and tied it on his forehead Tadashi inform him "This is not just a metal piece to protect your head or a piece to show your allegiance to the village, see the symbol of the village carved it the centre there is a powerful fuinjutsu embedded in it and it function as your ID and also holds all your mission records and allows you to access to the upper floor of the academy. The upper floor contains mission office and archives and from the archives you can buy any jutsu you want according to your mission records, so it's mandatory for all shinobi to always wear the forehead protector outside of their home."

"And another thing take this scroll, it contains all the necessary information." Tadashi told Raijin and dismissed him.

With that Raijin took the provided scroll thanking Tadashi and went straight to the top floor to know more about the mission office and archives.

The mission office is in central location of the top floor of the shinobi academy where shinobi of all ranks came to receive missions, ranging from simple chores to dangerous combat situations, with the difficulty level of the mission being categorised by rank (D, C, B, A, S) depending on the potential danger and importance of the task; essentially acting as a job board for ninjas to choose assignments based on their skill level and desired workload.

The mission office has huge wide-open space with six windows and high ceilings with two stick-like lights. There is Mission Assignment Desk located in the centre on which four chunin rank ninja were cataloguing several mission scrolls. First one assign mission, next one provide briefing of the mission and last one accept the report after the mission and decides whether the mission is completed according to the condition or there is any m mistakes or total failure. The fourth one updates the shinobi's records.

There is also a mission board hanging on the left wall of the room. The mission board is basically a large board displaying available missions with details like the mission objective, location, required skill level, and payments.

After learning all these Raijin went to the board and began searching for the D ranked mission as he was only allowed to perform the D ranked one as a new genin ranked shinobi. He was dumb founded to notice that among the entire D rank mission about 90% can be classified as chores but on a larger scale like weeding the garden, delivery of goods, cleaning of sewage etc. The remaining 10% consists of delivering official documents or supplies within the village. He also learnt that payment of that D rank mission is about 20000 ryo from which 50% is village commission and the remaining 50% of the amount will be divided within the teammates.

In the end he shrugged his shoulders and selects a D rank mission about weeding and went on his way. After completing the mission which took him only one hour he came back to submit the report and when he received the payment it suddenly clicked to him that as he did not have any team mates he can take full payments for the mission and suddenly realises the difficulty of getting jutsus from the achieves.

Raijin's eye widens and he mutters to himself "Generally for a shinobi to get a D rank jutsu of a shinobi would have to pay an amount equal to the full payment of the D rank mission and he/she will only have that amount after performing three of the mission assuming they were part of a three man cell, even then as every team or an individual is allowed to take only one D rank mission for three days a shinobi can only buy one D rank jutsu every 10 days and I have not even factored in the cost of living and cost of the various equipments."

"Although it's very difficult it will balance out by factoring time taken to master a jutsu and higher the rank of jutsu longer the time taken to learn it. By choosing to be an independent genin and by being an orphan and having an inheritance I gained several advantages. I would not have to depend on the mission payments for the cost of living and by not having teammates I can take full payments for the missions and buy one D rank jutsu every three days and there is less restriction on me by not being under a jonin sensei." realises Raijin happily.

With that thought Raijin went to the archives to take a look. The archives are located in the right wing of the top floor and there is a chunin guard present at the entrance. As he enters the guard scans his forehead protector and allowed him entry. The design of the archives is like a big library and there is a table near the entrance and a woman was sitting and working on some kind of document.

Raijin went towards her and asked "Excuse me, can you tell me how to buy jutsu?"

The woman looks at him and nonrecognition flashed across her face and asked "Who are you, I haven't seen you here before?"

"Oh, I just became a genin and its my first time here and I came straight here after completing a mission." Answered Raijin.

"Ah in that case you must have only completed 1 D rank mission and if you have 10000 ryo you can only select 1 d ranked jutsu." she told him.

Raijin scratch his chin and asked "So how should I choose them, is there any catalogue available from them."

"The D ranked jutsus are contained in the last rack from the left side of the entrance and the list of available jutsus is hanging on the rack itself and after selecting one bring it to me to register it on your name, all the jutsu you buy will be on your ninja id." she informed his and as she was about to return to her work he asked again "But why does it require to register the jutsu in our id?"

"Because it will help the upper management to accurately measure your strength and will also help you ever qualify for field promotion, and also ensure that you can choose appropriate mission according to your strength level." she explained to him then ignore him and went back to her work.

Raijin seeing her busy and ignoring him he shrugged and went to the d rank rack. He though the village must contain huge amount of jutsu but the reality was different the list on the rack contains only about 50 D rank jutsus and they were divided into 8 categories. There are five of each elemental jutsu like wind, fire, earth, water, lightning 15 fuinjutsus, 4 genjutsus, 3 iryojustsu ,2 chakra control exercise & 1 jutsu something known as shunshin no jutsu.

At first, he was tempted to select the shunshin no jutsu but he saw that it required mastery of 2 chakra control exercises so after deliberate consideration Raijin chose a chakra control exercise named tree climbing scroll and took it to the lady and paid for it at the counter and went to his house.

His house already has a decent size backyard which he can use for practising jutsus otherwise he would have to rent a training ground. He took out the scroll and began reading it. The tree climbing exercise is a genin chakra control exercise although it's called that but essential in this one has to be able to stick to any surface, by mastering this one can become familiar with gathering raw chakra and controlling it outside the body which will be helpful in practising high level jutsu of c rank and higher.

In this exercise one has to gather their chakra at the soles of their feet which is the most difficult part of the body for gathering and expelling chakra and manipulate it to create a suction force similar to leaf concentration exercise but in leaf concentration exercise one only has to stick a single leaf whose weight is almost negligible but in this one has to stick themselves to any surface thus it required more amount of chakra and fine control over it.

After reading and understanding the process Raijin went near the wall of his house and channel his chakra to his right foot and place it against the wall and carefully manipulate his chakra to create similar suction like leaf concentration one then gradually increased the amount and control over his chakra and once he felt like he was sticking firmly he repeated the process for his left foot.

As he had already perfected his chakra control by over practising leaf exercise it took him only an hour to became familiar with the exercise and another 2 hours to be able to do it effortlessly without any extra thought.

After training Raijin jump down form, the top of the wall with a confused expression and thought "I thought a D rank level technique will be hard to learn but why I was able to master it this quickly." While scratching his chin.

"And if its this easy does I have wasted opportunity by selecting this in place of other jutsus. No, its must be because of my mastery of leaf concentration technique, in that I was already able to gather, expel & manipulate chakra all over my body simultaneously, if I was not able to already do that then probably it would take me a month to learn this one." Concluded Raijin.

"But even then, I must try to increase the difficulty of this technique also, but how?" pondered Raijin in thought. "Oh, I can try to do the tree climbing one while also sticking stone all over my body, it will also help me by enlarging my chakra tenketsu points." decided Raijin.

ONE MONTH LATER (Raijin's age 13 years)

Its been one month since Raijin became a shinobi and starts doing D rank missions without any team or sensei. He has done 10 d rank missions at permitted rate of 1 mission per 3 days. So now he is allowed to buy 10 d rank techniques.

Raijin had thought that as he was able to master the basic tree climbing technique quite easily, he can master the self-created difficult one over next two days but reality was quite different. As the difficulty increases over thousand times it took fifteen days to master it then he went and did the same thing to the next one which is called water walking techniques, according to the scroll it should have taken him less time to master it than the previous one because of similar training method but although the process was similar the difficulty exponentially increased again because of his raised difficulty training method.

Although he only learned only two techniques in a month even with the upgraded difficulty its still faster than average time taken than others. As per scroll generally it took one month for tree climbing and fifteen to twenty days for water walking so he was not feeling any disappointment.

Also, he discovered an interesting thing during the practising sessions. One time for some reason his concentration slipped for a moment and he accidentally channelled more chakra than necessary to his feet while climbing the wall and was repelled violently and the wall was also cracked, so began thinking about a theory from that day onwards and now he was about to test it after successfully mastering two techniques.
