Chapter 14 - The War of Mirrors

Location: Hall of Reflections—Jeju Island (Hidden Dimensional Site)An ancient temple hidden beneath the cliffs of Jeju Island came alive under the silver moonlight. The Hall of Reflections was built by the first interdimensional travellers—an unstable nexus where all versions of a person could briefly exist.

The air shimmered with power as Lee Gon, Dephnie, Professor Song, and Woo-jin stepped through the dimensional barrier.

"Are you sure she'll come here?" Lee Gon asked, eyes sweeping the grand corridor lined with thousands of mirrors.

Professor Song nodded. "This place reflects identity. She'll be drawn to it."

Suddenly, the torches lining the walls flared—without flame.

A second Dephnie emerged from the far end of the corridor.

Identical in body.

Not in soul.

Location: Center of the HallDephnie-5 stood opposite Dephnie, their reflections multiplying infinitely in the mirrors around them.

"So this is what you became," the Fifth said bitterly. "Loved. Protected. A future queen."

Dephnie stepped forward calmly. "It wasn't handed to me. I fought for every piece of it."

"You fought nothing! I watched our world collapse while you kissed royalty!"

Dephnie's eyes flashed. "Your pain is real. But your revenge is misplaced. We're not enemies."

Dephnie-5 laughed coldly. "But we are. Because the universe only has room for one of us."

Without warning, the Fifth raised her hand. A spear of dark light erupted and struck the mirror behind Dephnie, shattering it.

The room quaked.

Location: Outside the Hall

Woo-jin and Professor Song were scrambling with energy monitors.

"She's destabilizing the mirror field!" Woo-jin warned. "If she breaks three or more mirrors, the hall will collapse—along with Dephnie's core identity!"

"We need to stall her—fast!"

Back Inside the Hall

Lee Gon drew his sword, placing himself between Dephnie and her counterpart.

"I won't let you touch her."

Dephnie-5 sneered. "Still her knight? Then die for her."

A dark blade formed in her hand—an exact replica of Lee Gon's, twisted with corrupted energy. Their swords clashed, lightning arcing across the mirrors.

Meanwhile, Dephnie ran to the central mirror—a golden frame glowing faintly.

Professor Song's voice echoed through her earpiece:

"You must choose: stabilize your existence using the Core Mirror… or destroy it and erase both of you."

Her fingers trembled. The Core Mirror shimmered with her memories—first kiss, lost moments, every pain, every hope.

Lee Gon shouted in pain as Dephnie-5 slashed across his shoulder.

Rage flooded Dephnie.

She turned to her double. "You don't deserve this blade," she growled—and rushed forward.

Their bodies collided in a blur of mirrored selves. But Dephnie was faster. Clearer. Herself.

She knocked the corrupted blade from the Fifth's hand.

Then she looked at the mirror again.

And chose.

She placed both palms against it—and whispered, "Let her rest. Let me remain."

A blinding light swallowed the room.

Moments Later—Stillness

When the light faded, only one Dephnie stood.

She collapsed into Lee Gon's arms. "She's gone… like smoke."

He held her tightly. "You stayed."

Professor Song stepped forward with wide eyes. "Not only did you survive… you stabilized the timeline."

Woo-jin laughed in relief. "No more doubles."

Location: Seoul – Royal Residence

Later that night, Dephnie stood on the palace balcony. The city lights blinked like stars.

Lee Gon joined her, arm now bandaged. "Do you regret it?"

She shook her head. "I mourn her. But I don't regret choosing to live."

They kissed under the stars, not as two strangers from different worlds—but as two souls finally in sync.
