Chapter 17: The Hunt for Firefly
The Arrow Cave was a lot like a family dinner, and Adam was the one who was there to stir the pot and make a lot of jokes. The only difference was that this family dinner had a lot more weapons and a lot more drama.
"I'm the family clown. The one who makes jokes at the expense of everyone else. But in this case, the family is a group of vigilantes, the jokes are about their trauma, and the pot I'm stirring is a pot of... well, it's probably a pot of trauma. A lot of trauma. I need to be more careful with my metaphors."
The current drama was a new villain, "Firefly." He was a pyromaniac who used fire and explosions to get what he wanted. He was, as Adam so eloquently put it, "a really, really bad name for a villain."
[Mission: Apprehend Firefly.]
Adam sighed. "Guido, that's not a mission. That's a suicide note. This is a classic 'villain of the week' plotline. I'm going to need a little more detail. Or a lot more coffee."
He knew he couldn't just stand by and watch. He had to protect the team. He had to use his Gu. He had to be a silent guardian, a watchful protector. Or, you know, a sarcastic guy who knew things. Same difference.
He used his meta-knowledge to identify Firefly and his MO. He knew where he was going to strike next, and he used his B-Rank Communication Gu and his B-Rank Mind Gu to subtly influence Thea Queen, making her more hesitant to get involved in the drama. He also had a brief, tense interaction with Firefly, a man who was as unhinged as he was dangerous.
He was in the Arrow Cave, watching the news report. Firefly was giving a press conference, talking about his next target. He was a master pyromaniac, a master of deception. He was, as Adam so eloquently put it, "a really bad name for a villain."
Adam focused on the news report, on Firefly's voice. He felt the mental buzz of the Communication Gu. He wasn't controlling his mind, just nudging his thoughts, a little whisper in the back of his head. He made him think about the fake robbery, the fake explosion, the fake everything. He made him think about a different path, a better path.
He watched as Firefly's eyes widened. He had a look of shock on his face. Adam smiled. He had done it. He had protected the team from Firefly, and he had made him a little more open to the truth.
[Mission Complete. Firefly Apprehended.]

"A Heat Gu! This is going to be so much fun. I can finally create a fake fire to mess with Oliver. Or a fake fire to mess with Diggle. The possibilities are endless. I'm a fire-bender now. A very, very sarcastic fire-bender. It's a good look for me."
