Chapter 23 - The Punishment Begins

"Wh-who are you guys?" Helga's soul asked, seeing Dean and Claire standing there, holding out their business cards. Her hand went up, taking both their cards.

"Nightmare agents? Where is this? Why am I here?!" Helga yelled, scared.

"Welcome to the nightmare world," Dean said calmly.

"We're here to serve you," Claire added.

"W-what?"

Helga stood up. Her body looked naked but was covered in a purple, hazy light that smelled pretty bad. Claire immediately covered her nose.

"Ugh... stinky. Have you even showered?" she blurted out.

"W-what do you mean...? I was just in my room with... Dylan... What happened?!" Helga asked.

"Oh, no wonder it smells," Claire replied.

"So, let me explain. We brought you here because we have a job from your ex-husband, who's currently in a coma at the hospital, to get revenge on you. So, please cooperate," Dean added.

"Ryan? He sent you?" Helga asked, shocked.

"That's right!" Claire answered.

"No way! That guy's in a coma, and I'm divorced from him. He has nothing to do with me anymore! Don't mess with me, get me out of here fast! I don't want to be in this terrifying place, I want to go home!" Helga screamed hysterically.

"Okay, let's go home," Dean said.

Dean took Helga's shoulder and held Claire's hand. "Blip!" The three of them vanished from the disgusting, fleshy room. The three reappeared, but Helga was now tied tightly to a chair, while Dean and Claire stood in front of her with wide smiles. Helga opened her eyes and instantly became terrified. She looked left and right, checking her surroundings, and realized she was in a torture room. "Crank... clack... clack," she struggled, trying to break free from the chair.

"Wh-what is this?! Let me go!" she screamed.

"Woah, you haven't even gotten your just deserts yet, and you already want to be let go? Be patient," Claire teased, leaning her face close to Helga's, still pinching her nose.

"We've accepted a request from your ex-husband because he's in a coma and can't get revenge on you himself, so you'll represent him. Before we start, do you have anything to say? Maybe an apology? Because right now, he's watching everything," Dean said.

"W-what?! That's impossible, he's in a coma... Besides, I'm not guilty! He emotionally and physically neglected me, so it's only natural I'd look for fun elsewhere. Tell him not to act so innocent, he's not the victim!" Helga screamed.

"Grrrrr... you greedy, cheating, gold-digging witch!" Claire yelled, annoyed.

"Hey, Claire, calm down," Dean said, turning to Helga. "Alright, if you really don't get it, then you should just feel what you've done."

Dean raised his finger, "Illusion!" Helga's body was immediately covered in a black mist, her eyes rolled back to white, her mouth hung open, and her whole body started to seize up. Helga felt herself behind the wheel of a car, and suddenly, "Craaaash!" a big truck hit her from the right, right at the driver's seat. Helga could feel her bones shattering and her flesh tearing from glass shards, and of course, she felt intense pain.

Then, the car became whole again and was hit once more, making Helga feel the same painful sensation, over and over. Dean and Claire watched everything from the sidewalk, as they were also inside the illusion Helga was experiencing. After dozens of times experiencing the same thing, finally,

"Pl-please... no more... Y-yes... I'm guilty... I'm guilty of planning to kill him... please... stop," Helga screamed.

"Hmm? Planning to kill him? You betrayed him and intended to divorce him before, right? Too bad your plan was discovered, so you took this action. And what about your first husband?" Dean asked, stopping the illusion.

"Huh... my f-first husband... Ja-Jackson?" Helga asked, pale.

"He died too, right? The police called it an accident, but actually, you killed him with Dylan, your childhood friend," Dean said.

"N-no, I didn't do anything to him!"

Dean stepped forward and held Helga's head, who was slumped in the chair. A holographic screen appeared in front of Helga's face. Claire walked behind Helga and forced her head to watch the projection. It showed that Jackson was a construction company owner who died while inspecting one of his projects. Helga paid people to drop an iron beam on his head, and Dylan led Jackson to the spot where he would die because Dylan was a close friend to Jackson then, so Jackson trusted him.

After that, Dylan acted as a witness, and a construction worker was accused of negligence, so he was arrested and fined, even though he worked hard for his father's medical treatment. All of Jackson's assets and his company fell into Helga's hands. Then Helga sold everything and went to another state with Dylan.

"Aaaaaaaaaaaah!" Helga screamed, seeing all her past actions displayed in front of her. Claire let go of her head.

"So, do you realize your wrongs now?" Dean asked.

"Jack... Jack cheated... He cheated with his secretary, that's why I got rid of him," Helga said, still not admitting her full guilt.

"Oh my god, she still doesn't get it," Claire mumbled, shaking her head.

"You used two men with good, stable careers for your own benefit and then kill them, take all their assets. And since you still don't get it, let's continue the illusion," Dean said.

"Snap!" Dean snapped his fingers. Suddenly, their location changed to a building construction site, and Helga's body was buried in the ground. "Craaash!" An iron beam fell on Helga, crushing her body, but Helga was conscious and felt all the pain. After that, her body healed, and the beam fell on her again, repeatedly.

"Aaaaaaaa... e-enough... enough... Yes... yes... I was wrong... I'm shallow, I'm greedy, I destroyed them... F-forgive me... forgive me," Helga screamed.

Dean and Claire looked at each other, then they noticed a purple aura still surrounding Helga's body, and even though Helga's face looked terrified, she didn't feel any guilt.

"L-let me go... I-I promise I won't work with Dylan anymore... it was all Dylan's idea, I...I just followed his instruction, I swear, he manipulated me... I don't want this anymore... please... d-don't torture me again," Helga begged.

"Hmm... okay, fine, we'll let you go," Dean said.

Helga immediately lifted her head and looked at Dean with a face full of hope and tears streaming down.

"Th-thank you... thank you... thank yo-"

Before Helga could finish her sentences, "Pyaaaash!" Claire, whose standing behind Helga, instantly beheaded her and shattered her soul into pieces until it vanished into nothingness.

"In the end, she blamed everyone else but herself, pathetic," Claire said.

"Okay, one more to go," Dean said.

"Let me do this one, Dean," Claire said.

"Hmmm... okay, but I'm coming to watch," Dean replied.

"Sweet!" Claire said, giving him a thumbs-up.
