Chapter 22 - The Client's Story: Betrayal and Vengeance

After Claire calmed down, they kept going toward the spot on the map. "Graaah!" A few zombies attacked them, but not in a huge group this time. "Shriiing!" Dean swung his big scythe, slicing through the zombies and ghouls that got close. Then he looked over at Claire, who was pulling her katana out of a zombie.

"Are you okay?" Dean asked again.

"I'm fine now... I've calmed down," Claire replied, cleaning the blood off her katana.

"Good, let's keep moving," Dean suggested.

"No wonder you're not scared of ghosts... this is what you do for work," Claire said, walking next to Dean.

"Yep, you'll get used to it too. It's scary at first, but after a while, it's fun," Dean replied.

"Hmm... we'll see about that, but to pay off our debt, I don't mind," Claire said, gripping her katana tightly.

"Thanks, Claire, for coming with me on this mission," Dean said.

"Hehe, no problem. We're soul partners... husband and wife," Claire replied.

"This time... I'm genuinely thankful... so I'll just let her think we're husband and wife," Dean muttered to himself.

They kept walking, going through hallway after hallway and up the stairs to the next floor. Finally, they reached a special ward for isolation rooms, where coma patients were treated. Dean and Claire saw a light coming from an open room, not blocked by any barbed wire door. Dean and Claire looked at each other, then nodded. They walked towards the glowing room and stepped inside.

As soon as they entered, they were back in the real world. "Plip... plip... plip," they heard the sound of an EKG machine and saw a thin man lying unconscious on a bed with medical equipment all over him. Dean looked over to see a smashed smartphone on a nearby table, and the man's ghost was standing next to the table, pointing at the broken phone. Dean and Claire approached the ghost.

Dean put his hand on the ghost's shoulder. "Bwoooong!" A large holographic screen appeared behind the ghost's head, showing the life of the man, Ryan White. Ryan was a software programmer who had a stable and successful life, making a lot of money. His wife was named Helga, and they had been married for five years. Helga was having an affair with a man named Dylan, a fitness trainer who was Helga's childhood friend.

Of course, Ryan didn't know about it, but he wasn't stupid. Before getting married, he made Helga sign a prenuptial agreement to protect all his assets. But there was a clause that said if one of them got severely sick and then died, all assets and income would go to the surviving spouse for their livelihood.

Helga was the one who added that clause, and Ryan, of course, agreed because he thought they loved each other and would build a life together until old age. He didn't know that Helga was actually after Ryan from the beginning because he seemed rich and stable to her, with help from her childhood friend, Dylan. Ryan found out about their plan after he caught Helga and Dylan being intimate in his bedroom.

Of course, Ryan kicked Helga out of his house and started the divorce process, using the prenuptial agreement Helga signed as his weapon, along with evidence of Helga's affair. This ensured Helga wouldn't get anything in the divorce because there was a clause stating that if one spouse cheated, they wouldn't get anything and would only leave with what they brought into the marriage.

While the divorce was ongoing, Helga planned an "accident" for Ryan so he would die, and eventually, Helga's plan succeeded. Ryan got into a car accident that put him in a coma, and the divorce continued, but all of his assets became Helga's. Now Helga and Dylan are living in Ryan's house, which she got from his hard work, and are building a family. After the display finished, Dean and Claire's faces turned red with anger.

"Okay, we're going to get your revenge," Dean said.

"That's right! I won't let a woman like that live comfortably," Claire added.

"Bwoooong!" A red screen popped up in front of Dean and Claire. They immediately read it:

"Hoo... so Ryan wasn't her first victim," Dean muttered.

"Yeah, there was a guy named Jackson, her first husband. That's just too much!" Claire added.

["Are you two ready?"]

"Yeah," they both replied in their heads.

["Okay, let's change locations."]

"Dooong!" Dean and Claire vanished, and a screen popped up in front of Ryan's ghost so he could watch the revenge unfold. Dean and Claire then appeared in front of a house that looked like a terrifying, pitch-black, old, and "alive" mansion. Claire grabbed Dean's hand when she saw the house. Dean looked over and saw Claire's face, which looked really scared.

"Relax, usually we just fight the target directly," Dean said.

"Oh... okay," Claire replied, getting her katana ready.

"Let's go in," Dean suggested, pulling Claire's hand.

"Yeah, let's go," Claire replied.

They both walked to the creepy main door. "Creeeeak," Dean opened it and saw a huge room, like an arena without an audience, surrounded by walls that looked like pulsing flesh. A foul smell wafted out of the room, passing Dean and Claire, who raised their hands to cover their noses.

"Ugh... gross," Claire said.

"Yeah, come on, Claire," Dean replied.

They walked to the center of the room and saw a sofa. Someone was sitting on it, typing on a laptop, seemingly unaware of Dean and Claire's presence. As soon as they saw the figure on the sofa, Dean and Claire's faces showed shock. Claire hid behind Dean because the person had a pointy head full of blood and red hair, a body like a hairless caterpillar that looked like pulsing flesh, and eight arms with knife-like fingers, all typing on something that looked like a laptop but was actually a cutting board.

"So... so ugly," Claire mumbled.

"Yep," Dean replied.

Dean moved closer, getting his scythe ready. Then, "Thunk!" he slammed the long handle of his scythe on the floor. "Gragh?" The creature turned its head, and its face was now clear: large, black eyes, skull-like nostril holes, and a wide mouth with red lips and sparse, pointy teeth.

"Graaaaaaaaaaaah!" The creature stood up. Dean and Claire looked up because the creature was huge and tall, like a hairless caterpillar and shaped like stacked flesh. It had eight watery breasts that seemed to be able to shoot some kind of green liquid, and eight arms with knife-like fingers.

"De... Dean," Claire mumbled.

"Let's go, Claire," Dean said, raising his scythe.

"Y-yeah," Claire replied.

"Crrrrrs!" The creature's eight breasts shot out an acidic liquid at Dean and Claire, who jumped to avoid it. The liquid hit the floor and melted it.

"Watch out, Claire!" Dean warned, landing behind her.

"Y-yeah! Let's finish this fast, Dean!" Claire replied, having just landed too.

Both immediately charged, attacking from right and left. "Clang... clang... clang," the creature's eight hands attacked, then blocked Dean and Claire's continuous and fast scythe and katana swings. "Graaaaaaagh!" The creature screamed when Dean managed to cut off two of its right arms and Claire slashed one of its breasts. After that, Dean and Claire jumped back. They looked at each other and nodded. "Clang!" Claire touched the tip of her katana to the tip of Dean's scythe.

"Hyaaaaaaah!" A red laser-like beam shot at the creature, piercing its body. "Screeeech!" Then Dean and Claire moved their weapons up and down and left to right. "Crack!" The creature's body immediately split into four pieces and shattered. Then a light came out from the center of the creature's body and formed the soul of a woman, which floated down to the floor and "Thud!" fell among the pieces of the previous creature. "Ugh," the woman's soul held her head, then looked up.

"Hello," Dean and Claire greeted her with wide smiles, holding up business cards.
