Kade Eagle, with Balvino's assistance, clambered onto the ground, the glaring sunlight momentarily disorienting him. He tightened the strap of his satchel, the firearms he had taken from the farm safely inside.
"Let's go!"
Balvino sniffed the air, analyzing the scent molecules drifting around. He took the lead, his pace blistering. Kade Eagle had to push himself to keep up.
The four of them swiftly bypassed the Lizardmen encirclement.
Even in his human form, Balvino's sense of smell remained incredibly sharp. Despite the rapid air currents on the ground, which caused the scents to dissipate quickly, he could still detect Tessa Eagle's scent in the air, as they were now close enough.
Suddenly, he stopped, reaching inside his satchel and gripping the rifle.
"Something's in the sky! Be on alert!"
The scents of machinery, lubricant, burning fuel, and gunpowder filled his nostrils. Balvino found it odd. It had to be an aircraft of some kind, like a helicopter. Based on the scent, it was no more than a thousand meters away. He could even faintly hear the sound of the engine.
But it was very strange; he didn't see any aircraft in the sky.
Balvino trusted his sense of smell and hearing. He took out his phone and called the Golden Eagle.
"Domiciano, have you seen anything? About seventy degrees west-northwest of me, about eight hundred meters away, moving south."
His ears twitched, pinpointing the location of the mysterious aircraft.
"Wait a moment."
Domiciano's voice, crackling with static, came from the other end of the line.
A moment later, he urgently warned Balvino.
"That's a stealth fighter! It's approaching you, be on alert! Balvino!"
Domiciano, who possessed the Golden Eagle gene, had excellent eyesight. Despite the "Falcon" fighter jet's optical camouflage, he could still distinguish its outline from the unnatural refraction of light.
"Calm down! Calm down!"
Balvino stopped the other two from transforming into their animal forms. Facing an aerial attack, they were at a complete disadvantage.
A few seconds later, the air blurred, and Balvino could feel something skimming the ground.
"They're not targeting you, Balvino. They've stopped about seven hundred meters to your east. A guy dressed exactly like Captain America got out of the fighter jet. Wait, there's a Lizardman, there's a Lizardman among them!"
Domiciano saw five people get out of the "Falcon" fighter jet, with the strong Lizardman being very conspicuous.
Balvino's heart skipped a beat. He hadn't expected the Lizardmen to have reinforcements. Where did they get such an advanced fighter jet?
"We have to stop them, or the boss and the others will be caught in a pincer attack."
His expression was a little grim.
"You two go ahead with Mr. Kade. I'll hold them off."
Kade stopped him.
"We'll go together, Balvino."
"But your daughter?"
"I trust Tessa. She's much better than I am. Just a Lizardman, she can definitely hold out until we take care of all the Lizardmen."
Kade clenched his fists. He didn't feel good about it, but he made his decision anyway.
"Maybe she's already out of danger."
Balvino nodded with difficulty, a glint of coldness flashing in his eyes.
"Then we need to deal with these cosplayers as quickly as possible."
"According to the information returned by the drones before they were destroyed, the Lizardmen's activity is concentrated in this area."
Black Widow, Natasha, had already thoroughly reviewed the intelligence S.H.I.E.L.D. had gathered earlier. A series of light drones, like darting fish, flew into the sewers from the manhole.
These S.H.I.E.L.D.-customized drones were extremely advanced, with a flight speed exceeding sixty kilometers per hour and equipped with sophisticated detection systems. They spread out through the sewers like a swarm of bees, quickly scanning every corner.
Captain America, Steve Rogers, carrying his shield on his back, watched this scene quietly. After being pulled from the sea, he found that the times had completely changed, and everything was so unfamiliar. He felt like an old man, struggling to adapt to the modern world.
By now, he no longer felt surprised by these new gadgets.
"Our main target is Colonel Johnson. Once he's killed, the remaining Lizardmen will lose their leadership and fall into chaos."
Steve took the shield off his back and jumped down first.
"Back in my day, it was hard to imagine a bunch of giant lizards wreaking havoc in New York City."
He held the shield in front of him, cautiously observing the environment in the sewers.
"Believe me, Cap, it's hard to imagine in this day and age too."
Hawkeye, Barton, took the bow off his back and nocked an Explosive Arrow. Ordinary arrows were just a tickle to the Lizardmen; only these Explosive Arrows could easily blow their heads off.
Peter Parker was somewhat taciturn. He, who was usually lively, only wanted to rescue Gwen and Tessa as soon as possible.
Steve had rich command experience. He patted Peter's shoulder hard.
"Trust me, kid, we'll get your girlfriend out of those green monsters' hands soon."
Everyone descended into the sewers.
"We need to let the drones find the target first. Colonel Johnson is an experienced commander; we need to be very cautious."
Natasha pulled out a tablet, and the video from the drone cameras streamed onto the screen.
Soon, the drones made a discovery.
Everyone present stared at the video feed in disbelief.
"What the hell is this? Does New York City's underground connect to the Lord of the Rings world?"
From the drone's perspective, a bear-headed Orc was engaged in close combat with a Lizardman.
The Orc's strength and endurance had the advantage. It opened its maw and tore at the Lizardman's body, mangling its head. However, the Lizardman's regeneration was too strong. No matter how gruesome the wound, it would heal within a few breaths. The Orc's situation was gradually worsening; its brown fur was soaked in blood.
"Get through it, cross the battlefield! Colonel Johnson is on the left rear, and he's fighting something!"
Hawkeye's vision was extremely sharp; he immediately recognized Colonel Johnson's figure amidst the blurry mosaic.
Natasha immediately maneuvered the drones to increase their altitude, slowly flying towards Colonel Johnson. The entire battlefield appeared in the video feed, with Orcs sporting various colored heads engaged in a bloody battle with Lizardmen.
"Watch out!"
Steve suddenly raised his shield, blocking in front of Natasha. A volley of bullets rained down on the shield, clanging and sparking.
