I paced the room, the weight of leadership heavier than ever. Something's off. My beta, Marcus, caught me after the meeting, his brow furrowed.
"Alpha, I need to speak with you. It's about Nyla."
I stopped. Nyla. My mate, the woman I trusted, but now… Marcus's voice was low, laced with concern.
"She's new to our world, yes. But some of her actions don't sit right. I've seen her linger near places she shouldn't, ask questions that make the guards uneasy. I'm worried—what if she's hiding more than we know?"
I clenched my jaw, eyes darkening. Trust was fragile here, and betrayal could come from any corner—even the one closest to me.
"Keep an eye on her," I said, voice cold. "If she's hiding something, I want to know before it's too late."
Marcus nodded solemnly. The game was changing. I had to protect my pack — and my heart — from the growing storm
