Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: Cloud-nin

After using [Great Dragon Fire Technique], Shiyu Uchiha felt a wave of emptiness from his injuries and immense chakra consumption. Still clenching his teeth, he took out a shuriken with his left hand and hurled it while charging forward with a kunai in his right.

The Kirigakure Anbu, unable to fully dodge due to his own wounds, avoided the vital spots from the flying shuriken but caught the kunai Shiyu thrust toward him. With his free hand, he punched toward Shiyu's head.

Shiyu barely managed to raise his left arm for defense. However, due to his exhausted state, although he blocked successfully, he couldn't fully withstand the opponent's immense strength. Nevertheless, the block had some effect—altering the trajectory enough that only his shoulder was struck.

At the same time, Shiyu launched a sudden kick. Though lacking power, it struck the enemy's lower body critically, forcing the Anbu to release his grip on Shiyu's right hand. Shiyu tried to follow up with another attack, but a surge of exhaustion prevented him from continuing.

Just then, Gekko Ryo charged in furiously like a reckless warrior, attacking relentlessly just as Hiroshi Izuno had done before. She landed a successful [Ci] on the enemy's right shoulder, further widening their advantage. Yet her foe retaliated viciously—a signature savagery of the Blood Mist ninja—as he threw a punch aimed straight at her throat.

At that moment, Shiyu, who had caught his breath, quickly stood up and intercepted the blow meant for Ryo. The impact sent both of them hurtling backward through the air.

The mist ninja's condition was deteriorating rapidly—he had first been slashed twice, burned by fire release afterward, and then hit with a kick and another blade strike. He was gasping for breath but still saw that Shiyu hadn't resumed his attack. Sensing a sudden chance at survival, the surviving Kirigakure Anbu grew hopeful—had Shiyu attacked immediately, it might've finished him off. Concluding that Shiyu and Ryo must be romantically involved, he planned to exploit this connection to eliminate his enemies.

Suddenly, the Anbu grabbed a kunai and prepared to throw it at the struggling Shiyu, hoping to finish off this troublesome opponent once and for all. If Shiyu dodged, he could target the person behind instead. Confident Shiyu wouldn't dodge, he silently called him a fool in his mind.

Before he could even feel satisfied, however, a final claw strike from Saya—who had silently crept nearby—tore through the mist ninja's artery and throat, ending his life.

It turned out that after sending the emergency flare, Saya had somehow approached unnoticed, pulling off an excellent assassination. Earlier, Shiyu had sensed Saya's approach and therefore chose saving Ryo over continuing the attack.

This decision also caused the mist ninja to momentarily relax his guard, allowing Saya the perfect opportunity to move in undetected and deliver a powerful assist.

Had Shiyu gone for the direct kill, it wouldn't have been as clean as what Saya pulled off. Plus, knowing the mist ninja's style, he might've gone for a suicide counter.

Seeing Saya spring into action, Shiyu Uchiha had originally forced himself upright to provide backup, but his expression instantly relaxed. He wobbled and crashed down to one knee again. Still conscious, he rasped a warning to Saya, "Saya, scan the area and raise the alarm in time."

Shiyu then took a Military Rations Pill from his pouch, swallowed it whole, and pushed every last bit of strength he had left to recover some Chakra. Just as he tried standing again to locate Izuno Hiroshi and Gekko Ryo, a figure appeared before him.

The next moment, a large hand seized his neck. Before Shiyu's eyes emerged a shinobi from the Land of Lightning—their facial features were easily identifiable. He also noticed the man's other hand was holding a ninken—it was none other than the patrol cat, Saya.

Suddenly realizing he was doomed unless someone could instantly kill his attacker, Shiyu braced for death. Facing certain doom—and perhaps because he had already died once before—his expression remained surprisingly calm.

More than anything, his opponent had moved too fast; he hadn't even had time to feel fear before his brain began suffering oxygen deprivation from the choking.

"Well well, another Konoha prodigy brat. What a waste. You should've been born under Cloud-nin skies instead." As this voice spoke, the grip tightened relentlessly, aiming to kill Shiyu without giving him even the slightest chance. At this moment, Shiyu didn't even have the opportunity to surrender—he couldn't speak at all with his throat being crushed.

The deadly suffocation gradually clouded Shiyu's mind with dizziness as death loomed closer and closer. Yet deep within himself, an intense will to survive surged forth. Under this willpower, Shiyu felt his consciousness suddenly sharpen.

Unconsciously, he was drawn into his own spiritual sea, where he saw his bloodline power and spiritual energy begin to merge. At this moment, a realization struck him—once his spiritual energy fully fused with his bloodline ability, his Sharingan would evolve into a second tomoe.

However, his spiritual energy seemed insufficient. Suddenly, he recalled limit breaking—an ability that could temporarily release immense power but would come at the cost of restricting future growth. But under the circumstances, Shiyu couldn't care about that anymore.

He wasn't hoping for much damage—he just didn't want to die like this, helpless and powerless. He wanted to fight back at least once before dying. Just as he resolved himself to forcibly suppress his potential—

He was interrupted by an unexpected occurrence. Suddenly, he seemed to see a pair of eyes. One had already lost its sight, while the other bore the standard third tomoe of the Uchiha clan. Judging by the blind eye, these could only belong to Uchiha Shizhi.

Then, he saw the third tomoe spin endlessly until it formed into the distinctive petal-like shape of a Mangekyō Sharingan. From this pattern, Shiyu felt a trace of serenity and ease. Suddenly, his consciousness returned, and he reawakened in reality.

The Cloud-nin noticed Shiyu Uchiha's eyes beginning to shift as he neared death and assumed they could evolve further. He stopped tightening his grip and instead eased it slightly, keeping Shiyu from suffocating too soon. Hoping the Sharingan would finish evolving, he wanted to maximize his gain — after all, the Sharingan held tremendous research value among the Cloud-nin.

The Cloud-nin never saw it coming when one of Shiyu Uchiha's eyes suddenly transformed into a petal-like pattern [Petal Eye], immediately triggering a chilling sense of doom. Before he could react, he was struck — his spiritual essence dragged into a special space.
