Chapter 1 - arranged in cold blood

The snowflakes gently fell onto the city, casting a serene silence over the bustling streets

of New York. But for me, there was no peace. I stood by the window, staring out at the

frosty night, my mind numb with the events that had transpired. Just a few days ago, I was

living my life as I knew it - running my family's cold case mafia with an iron fist, feared by

all who crossed our path. But now, everything had changed.

The door behind me creaked open, and my second-in-command, Tommy, walked in.

"Vinnie, we need to talk," he said, his voice low and serious.

I turned away from the window, my eyes narrowing. "What is it, Tommy?"

Tommy hesitated before speaking. "It's about the Morano alliance. They've been making

some...unreasonable demands."

I raised an eyebrow. The Moranos were one of the most powerful families in the city, and

their alliance with ours had been a delicate balance of power and respect. But it seemed

they were now pushing their luck.

"Unreasonable?" I repeated, my voice cold. "What exactly do they want?"

Tommy took a deep breath. "They want you to marry Sophia Morano, their daughter. They

claim it's a gesture of good faith and a way to strengthen our bond."

I laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "They think I'd just agree to marry some spoiled rich

girl? I've got news for them - I'm not some schmuck who's going to take their daughter off

their hands."

But Tommy just shook his head. "You don't understand, Vinnie. The Moranos aren't

asking. They're telling. And if you don't comply, they'll withdraw their support and takeswing at us. We can't afford to lose their backing."

My eyes narrowed, my mind racing with the implications. I knew what Tommy was saying -

that our very survival depended on making this alliance work. And so, with a heavy heart, I

made the decision.

"Tell the Moranos I accept," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

The next thing I knew, I was standing in the opulent foyer of the Morano estate,

surrounded by their family and friends. And there, in front of me, stood Sophia Morano - a

vision in white, her piercing green eyes seeming to bore into my very soul.

The ceremony was a blur, but the end result was clear: I, Vincent "The Bull" LaRosa, was

now married to Sophia Morano.

As we exchanged our vows, I couldn't help but feel like I'd just made a deal with the devil

himself. And now, I was bound to this beautiful, yet suffocating, life.

The reception was a lavish affair, with champagne toasts and congratulatory speeches. I

played the part of the happy groom, but my mind was elsewhere, wondering what lay

ahead and how I would survive this arranged marriage.

And as I looked at Sophia, I saw a flicker of something in her eyes - a spark of defiance,

perhaps, or a glimmer of curiosity. It was a spark that gave me hope, a hope that maybe,

just maybe, this marriage wouldn't be as suffocating as I thought.

But for now, I just smiled, and raised my glass in a toast to our future together. Little did I

know, it was going to be a wild ride.
