Chapter 16 - Thief of Silence (6)

There were six layers in Dark Sky's underground hideout.

The lower one goes, the tighter its security. The first two are where the weaker wizards were stationed, equipped with magic sensors that could detect the possibility of intruders.

Once you enter the third layer, a Larcima Generator can be seen at the end of its hallway, being guarded by a blight. This is the same for the fourth and fifth, a textbook defense that relies on a strict hierarchy of strength.

In addition to the three separate entrances that connects directly to those generators, as long as the blights could easily kill such variables, there would have been no problems at all.

Unfortunately for them, however… Natsu and Kagura were beyond the realm of normal, bulldozing their way through their target floors with ease. The vastness of the areas didn't matter, because they reached it in no time, engaging with their chosen targets.

The Soundless Domain gave Ordo information about the current situation, considering that it was made up of his Silence Wards. He could definitely sigh in relief by betting his plan's success on his temporary allies.

But… He would also need to carry his weight.

Ordo ran across the third layer while knocking out the other dark wizards he ran into. The handle of this dagger was quite sturdy, so there was no problem. He stopped after a while, vigilantly scanning his surroundings.

A hand emerged from the wall beside him, intending to drag him inside. He swiftly responded by swinging with full force, yet it was blocked by some type of physical armament.

If there was sound, it would have produced a resounding clang. Ordo clicked his tongue at another failed attempt. "Wearing hand-guards to make sure you wouldn't get injured while activating your magic is a good contingency."

He jumped away from the other hand that appeared, looking at the green-haired man that showed himself. Fulgor wore a green robe combined with a black shirt and pants, his piercings made his whole presence a tad more frightening.

The blight's expression right now was of rage and disdain. He wouldn't expect this thief of theirs to rebel in an audacious manner, and the way he carried himself indicated confidence that he didn't like.

"I don't even need sound to understand you, psycho. Your face already gave away the words you probably want to say." Ordo scoffed while playing with his dagger.

Fighting against someone that can trap people in the ground with ease is dangerous if you couldn't break out of the entrapment. Ordo's magic doesn't have high-tier offensive spells, which is why he opted for a decent magic dagger to say the least.

Factoring in his lack of strength, he decided to destroy the generator first. It is the main goal anyway, so there was no need to battle valiantly. A good clean it towards the Lacrima should do the trick.

Which is why he started this game of cat and mouse, playing mind games with Fulgor was his purpose from the start. He leveraged his personality against him, making sure to rile him up even further.

Not having the right state of mind can fog up one's thoughts, and he simply waited for that opening.

Ordo also needed to maintain the domain for as long as he could, falling here wasn't an option at all! Patience was important currently, and will decide his life or death during these moments.

"What's wrong, Fulgor? This is your chance to kill me, no? You've been itching to do it for a while now." Ordo fearlessly taunted the blight, raising his guard up afterwards. Sometimes, risks are the path to success, and if this is the resolve that's required to exterminate a dark guild… He'd gladly accept it.

Ordo. Ordo. Ordo~ Our great thief who was previously timid and loyal. People like you were easy to break... But it appears my assessment of you was wrong, and you were someone who bided his time to bite back. Even within the Soundless Domain, Fulgor's expression alone speaks volumes.

Your death won't be fast, traitor.

The blight melded back into the ground, which prompted Ordo to slash around his vicinity. He ran again to make sure his eyes will be able to capture any type of movement.

But before he could do so, the ground under him began to soften, which caused his feet to slowly sink. Ordo felt his hair stand on end, followed by a swift response to the sudden attack.

"Sound Magic: Vibration!" A static hum formed around his legs, dividing the soft ground as he escaped from it. He launched another barrage of slashes, forming gashes on the pavement as if it were paper.

He continued to sprint while looking at the dagger with grateful eyes. "I need to save my magic power for the domain. It was luck that this type of weapon was among the items I stole… I only need to circulate a small amount from my container to activate it." Ordo muttered.

Fulgor narrowed his eyes as he gave chase within the ground, displaying speed reminiscent to that of a fish swimming inside water. He made hand gestures and aimed at the thief above.

Earth Magic: Puppet Formation.

He didn't give Ordo any room to take a breather. Faceless humanoids were morphing from the soft ground to surround the thief instantaneously.

Ordo swung his dagger at one of them, yet it felt like cushion the moment it hit. He invoked vibration again, which actually made the puppet explode afterwards. Seeing this, he remarked loudly at the blight.

"You want this to be a competition of endurance, huh? Bring it on, then! Either I destroy that Lacrima first, or be overwhelmed by your tricks." He never stopped as he went through the encirclement.

Puppets were created after one was vanquished, making it an endless wave. The only bearable thing about it was their weak defense, because the main purpose for the spell was so that Fulgor could blend in during the chaos.

Ordo didn't let his guard down even if the blight stayed hidden, parrying multiple attempts to drag him to his doom. He made sure to use his vibration spell wisely, since this was one of his spells that took a chunk of his magic power.

The last thing he wanted was for the Soundless Domain to pop like a balloon. The debuff made sure to limit the blight's strength to around a ninety-percent capacity. Although it seemed minor, it was a great difference if it's a fight against wizards of their level.

This was especially glaring for him, since it increases his chances of survival. Once he completed his objective, he will do everything in his willpower to hold the domain until the very last drop.

Ordo regained a bit more of vigor as he thought of it, avoiding the grabs of the puppets with a calm demeanor. He could feel the impatience of Fulgor while blocking another of his attempts.

He glanced at the Lacrima that was a distance away. During the fight, he discreetly moved around in a roundabout manner to have a clear view of the large generator. Ordo made sure to not show it on his face, so that the blight wouldn't catch on.

They continued to rampage across the floor as many puppets fell under the sound wizard's spell. There was slight vibration on the dagger, an application he did to save magic power.

Everything was going smoothly. He could still feel the stability of the domain, and it did not strain him for now. Ordo quietly took a deep breath, already within the vicinity of the generator.

He clenched the dagger, pouring more power into it than usual, a sure hit to obliterate the glowing sphere in one go. The moment he had the perfect angle, he swung---!

Puchi!

Ordo coughed up a liter of blood in surprise, looking down at the hand-guard that pierced away all his hopes down the gutter. Was he aware of my plan from the very beginning?" It was too coincidental after he swung towards the Lacrima.

The hand-guard slowly exited his chest slowly, making him grunt in pain. He was on one knee as he held the hole that formed a crimson trail. Ordo glanced up at the blight who looked at him with a cunning and sharp glint.

He gritted his teeth as he endured the injury in anger. "Go to hell, psycho."

The Soundless Domain faltered.
