"What's happening?" Draymon asked, his voice shaking with the same fear everyone felt.
They didn't have to wait long. Something—no, a group—slowly came into view.
Only they weren't people.
From the shadows of the screaming trees, three figures in dark cloaks stepped out. Kelly stopped breathing, terror locking her chest. Rowan and the others trembled under their gear, and with good reason.
These things had no eyes, their bodies dried up like husks beneath the cloaks. Where teeth should've been, a long thread stretched across their mouths, their wrinkled lips twitching like worms trying to pry it open.
One held a rusty bell, ringing it in slow intervals. Another gripped a censer hanging from long, dark chains, releasing putrid smoke that made the air feel like it was boiling.
The one in the middle held nothing, both hands clasped together like he was praying.
