Kelly tried to fight the fatigue settling deep into her bones. They had been trudging through the forest for hours, and doing that while escaping the horrors lurking around them was draining in every way.
The only reason they'd survived—barely—was because of her and Rowan's synergy. It worked perfectly for running: she handled the defense while he teleported them out of danger.
But even with that, they were running low on stamina, and even though Rowan never said anything, Kelly knew his dust reserves were pathetic at this point. Sure, he kept popping those potions, but burning through his supplies this fast when they'd only spent a day and a half in the ruins was asking for trouble.
"We should take a brief rest," Rowan said, letting out a deep breath as he dropped onto a rocky slab buried in some shrubs, his breathing rough and loud.
Kelly turned away from him and scanned the terrain.
