It started with jollof rice.
Specifically, the one Teni made that Dami's mother nearly choked on.
"You put thyme in your jollof?" she asked, eyes wide in horror.
Teni blinked. "Yes... and love."
"Well, the thyme overpowered the love."
That was how the dinner spiraled into an ambush.
"Teniola," said Mrs. Okonkwo, folding her napkin like she was preparing for war. "You seem... energetic. But I want what's best for my son. And that includes a real wife."
Teni raised an eyebrow. "So I'm what? An imaginary one?"
Mrs. Okonkwo smiled. "A temporary one."
Before Dami could speak, she dropped the bombshell:
"I've arranged for Dami to meet someone more suitable tomorrow. If he likes her, we'll talk annulment."
Teni choked on her wine. "I'm sorry, what?"
"Don't worry, dear. You're young. You'll bounce."
