No one ever told me that love could become a sword, cutting between two hearts that were once inseparable…
In a quiet village on the outskirts of the countryside, Rahaf sat on her bed at night, scrolling through some pages on social media. After a while, she felt bored and decided to go to sleep her only escape from the darkness of life.
Rahaf was a beautiful twenty-year-old girl, her features calm, and her hazel eyes hid conflicting emotions of sadness, loss, and... love.
Rahaf lived with separated parents. She never forgot the moment she was parted from her younger sister Tala, when she came with her mother to the countryside. Her mother's roots were from the countryside, while her father belonged to the city.
At the time of the separation, her father Issam and her mother Nargis decided to split the sisters one would go with the mother, and the other would stay with the father. And so, she now lived with her mother in a simple rural house, while her sister Tala lived with their father in the city. They visited each other every once in a while.
In the morning, Rahaf woke up to her mother's soft voice. She had breakfast and then left her house, heading to her best friend Karma's house. Karma was her substitute for her sister the two of them were inseparable hearts.
Karma was a simple girl. Her features were beautiful but sharp, her skin was pure white. Her personality was cheerful, yet behind her smile she hid wounds whose flames would never be extinguished. This girl had no one left from her family but her mother; her father and younger brothers had died in a car accident. Now her mother was her mother, father, home, and family her whole life and the dearest person to her heart.
Rahaf walked absentmindedly, trying to gather her thoughts. She had decided to tell her friend the truth about her feelings for that strange person who had stolen all her energy with his love.
It was no different for Karma, who was eagerly waiting for Rahaf to confess her love for the person who had captivated her soul with his charm.
Rahaf arrived at her friend's house. They sat in the guest room and chatted until Rahaf said hesitantly: "Karma, I want to tell you something important."
Karma replied with a smile: "Me too, Rahaf."
Rahaf said calmly: "Honestly, I think I've fallen in love."
Karma laughed loudly, then said: "No, no, this is impossible. You want to tell me the exact thing I want to tell you. I'm in love too... maybe I'm infatuated, I don't know."
Rahaf asked curiously: "And who is it that you've fallen in love with?"
Karma said: "I'm supposed to ask you the same question. So let's answer it together each of us will say her lover's name at the same time."
Rahaf agreed to the idea, and then they both said the name of their beloved at the exact same moment: "Yazan."
Rahaf looked at Karma in astonishment and fear, then asked with a trembling voice: "Which Yazan do you mean? Do you mean Yazan Tarek?"
Karma trembled where she sat. How could she and her friend both be in love with the same person? She answered weakly: "Yes, it's him."
Rahaf didn't even feel the tears streaming from her eyes like a flood. Karma said with outward calm, though there were storms within her: "Unfortunately, Rahaf, but Yazan has the same feelings for me, and he confessed to me earlier and decided that we should get officially engaged."
Rahaf couldn't bear it any longer. She jumped up from her place and left the house quickly, not knowing where she was going. All she could think about was that the only person she had ever loved was the same person her friend her sister had fallen in love with... and he returned those feelings.
On the edge of the village, specifically on a wooden path running beside the water stream, Yazan was walking in complete calm. That twenty-two-year-old young man was gazing at the clear sky, thinking about the moment when Karma would finally be in his life the girl he had loved madly.
He remembered two days ago when he confessed his love to her, and she felt the same. So he decided to hurry things along and make their relationship official.
The ringing of his thoughts was cut short by the voice of his close friend Anas, who came from behind him, jokingly saying: "What's on your mind?"
Yazan replied with a smile: "The one who stole my soul and mind Karma."
Anas looked at Yazan with an unreadable expression, then said as he tried to change the subject: "Have you made a decision about your job yet or not?"
Yazan said calmly: "Honestly, no. Right now, I'm preoccupied with the Karma situation."
Anas asked in surprise: "What situation?"
Yazan replied with a smile: "I've decided to make our love story official. I'm going to marry her."
Anas didn't respond to his words, but said calmly: "Congratulations. I wish I could stay with you longer, but I'm busy right now. If you need anything, I'm here for you."
Yazan bid him a warm farewell, then Anas left and no one knew what he was thinking at that very moment…
