Chapter 19 - the end

NEWS REPORT – VOICEOVER

A serious reporter speaks as crime scene photos and Roy's ID flash on screen.

> "In a shocking turn of events, all eight murder cases were solved.

The killer was none other than Assistant Detective Roy Daniels…report say he is having Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) or a deep split in his psyche.

who shot and killed his own partner at 8:40 PM last night."

[INT. COURTROOM – DAY]

Roy — or Ronald — stands before the court, lifeless but composed. The judge delivers the final verdict.

Judge:

Roy Daniels, also known as Ronald,

You are hereby sentenced to death by hanging.

[INT. PRISON VISITATION ROOM – NIGHT]

As his last wish, Ronald sits across from Nick, separated by a glass pane. Both hold the phone — tears in their eyes, voices broken.

Nick:

You shouldn't be here.

Ronald (softly):

I already was…

Just not behind bars.

Silence. Then a slow fade as Ronald's voice narrates:

RONALD (V.O.)

> Was Roy really the murderer?

Or was Ronald… just a victim of a failed system?

> If Roy — the killer — was my identity…

Then Ronald — the broken soul — died long ago.

> But if the law remains blind…

Then more Roys will rise.

> Because when justice sleeps…

Good people become ghosts.

> We are the society.

And no law survives if the society refuses to uphold it.

[INT. EXECUTION CHAMBER – DAWN]

Roy stands at the gallows. His eyes are calm. The rope tightens around his neck.

His final thought echoes one last time:

Ronald (V.O.):

Roy died today.

But Ronald… died a long time ago.

Was I a victim?

Or a criminal?

The screen fades to black.

"Even justice can become a crime, if the system is broken And victims can become criminals, when no one hears their pain."

THE END.
